Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park

Congo is a science fiction novel, written by Michael Crichton in 1980. He was an American science fiction writer, born in 1942 and died in 2008. He was well known for his book, Jurassic Park. Congo is set around an expedition taking place in the congo, whose goal is to find diamonds and study the behaviour of a young gorilla, called Amy, who has been taught sign language.

As shown in the previous quote, technology can have a huge impact on society and how people live their lives. However, too much technology can be lethal.

In the book Jurassic Park, written by Michael Cranton, the park failed miserably. The way they ran it had lots of problems. It resulted in the death of eight people and six people missing. Most of the park was destroyed up until eventually the whole thing was destroyed by the military. There are many different ways to run the park then what they did.

Since the beginning of time humans have been inventing and enhancing technology. Over time technology has become very powerful. In the novel The Andromeda Strain, Michael Crichton 's career and life in the 1960s allowed him to develop the idea that the technology today has become so enhanced. Since the technology has become so advanced, when something goes wrong with it, we do not know what to do to fix it.

Technology is already starting to take over human tasks. Instead of pushing a vacuum around, there are now robots that do it for us. Scientists and chemists are finding even more dangerous weapons that could kill a nation in a blink. If a country decides to use these weapons, then a nation could be destroyed. Technology is a good thing, we are just using it in the wrong manner.

As mentioned, what Bradbury is trying to accentuate is this value. He is predicting that there’s going to be a time when this increasing value of technology goes over the value of human. He warns that because of that value, there’s going to be a moment when humans will kill each other because of technology: this can be seen when there is “a sound of thunder”(Bradbury 10) from the gun pointed to Eckels. Bradbury wants the readers to think differently than everyone else who are increasing technology’s value. Bradbury lets the readers think which one is higher: humans’ value or technology’s value.

The storyline tries to make us to think about what is going in the story. The characters need to come up with how they are going to take down the dinosaur. Time traveling can affect many of the characters in certain ways. For example, In Sound of Thunder Eckels accidentally falls off the path which affects the timeline. Eckels learned that there were consequences to what he did.

It would make us soon realize how bad it would be to see animals that are needed, disappear but that will never happen! To continue, “ It will reproduce endangered or even extinct species.” The author is trying to say that, the more species that become extinct, or placed on the endangered list, would really have an effect on the whole world. While the possibility of time travel does seem exciting and wondrous, it also could be risky and dangerous. In Ray Bradbury’s short story, “A Sound of Thunder,” he uses the cause and effect of time travel to support his theme of not all technology brings good to the world. Society is always hungry for new technology and inventions, even at the risk of harm such as changing time. In “A Sound of Thunder”, the story shows that people are so desperate for more thrills and adrenaline rush that they risk changing the future and their own lives just to shoot a dinosaur- even though the only thing they would possibly receive is a picture.

They imply that life would be hard to live with the lack of new technologies, however, it becomes ironic because life is already at risk due to technology. Making technological advances and preserving the environment and human health will not be possible because of the pollution resulting of the waste output, the depletion of natural resources and the global warming resulting of the emission of carbon dioxide. To begin with, the waste output of the new technologies pollutes the lands, the water and the air of the earth. An average computer screen contains up to 8 pounds of lead and 2 to 5 percent of the trash in American landfills belong to electronics waste.
