Ageing is something that can be split up into many groups like aa variety of things in society. Older people can be categorized into the young-old, the middle-old and, the old-old. That last one seems ridiculous to me. People in each of these groups are generally happier in this time period rather that the previous one because the United states has given the resources for us to be more prepared for aging. Also nowadays people can start planning for their retirements before they even think about getting old.

I have chosen to discuss “Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967”. The Federal Government passed ADEA to prevent discriminatory practices against applicants and employees who are age 40 and older in the employment sector. Employers with 20 or more employees are mandated to uphold this law. The “spirit of the law” is the attitude how a person abides by the law and willing to do the right thing. The specific minority group I have chosen is Hispanic. Some elderly has been by their sides as they fought for freedom. Some of the elderly has been victims of the Jim Crow laws while some also participated in those laws. Along with the Jim Crow Laws came about the World Wars. Most of the elderly that are living had fathers and grandfathers whom fought in the World Wars and can tell firsthand how it was like to fight during those times. I enjoyed your discussion post because I can relate to the geriatric setting on a personal level. When my father was alive he resided in an independent living facility in Ohio and I live in Georgia. My father perception was he was independent, but in reality my sister managed all his finances and I handled all his medical concerns with his multitude of comorbidities. I made sure he signed consent forms with all his physicians, nurse and therapists that I was able to contact them by phone to obtain information on all his appointments, procedures and therapies. So, I was that family member that explained everything to my father in terminology he could understand before he consented.
