There are many great films in the history of cinema. I enjoy ones that have a creative way to tell the story. In 1994’s Pulp Fiction, this film has become a cult classic due to it’s unorthodox unraveling of a story, its strange coincidences, and views on nihilism in the whole story. In normal films, we expect films to unravel in chronological order. That’s not the case for Pulp Fiction however. The film somehow works as 4 short films in itself but connections are always made between them. It may seem confusing in the beginning scenes how it cuts to different situations between different characters and how one of the characters is shot dead but somehow is alive in the last minutes of the film. The way Quentin Tarantino directed this film really sparked the creative aspect of future films in cinema. Coincidences are another part of the film. One coincidence is that many of the big parts of the film seem to unravel when Vincent is in the bathroom. Whether it was the robbery in the diner, Mia Wallace overdosing and passing out, or even his own death. Another coincidence …show more content…
In the beginning of the film, Vincent and Jules are damn near death when a stranger that jumps out of a bathroom and starts firing bullets at them and not one hitting them shoots them at. Jules seems to take this as a sign from divine nature and Vincent just disregards it. This event eventually leads to Jules wanting to change his harsh ways and actually analyzes deeper into the bible passage he recites constantly. Not just Vincent and Jules, but Butch and Marsellus also escaped an unfortunate situation. Butch managed to escape from the shop owners, but as soon as he was about to leave, he comes across many fatal instrumentals that could be used to kill someone. Long story short, both Butch and Marsellus escape from the shop owners and Butch just thinks nothing of it like he just got lucky and that there was no reason for him to be
The Glass Castle is an eye opening experience about the bonds between family and how much one can take from their family. The Glass Castle tells the story of Jeannette Walls, the second oldest of four children, and their struggle of growing up in a nomadic and illegal lifestyle. The patriarch of the Walls family is Rex Walls, a drunken yet brilliant ex-Air Force pilot who loves his children almost as much as he loves hitting the bottle. The matriarch of the Walls family is Mary Rose, a starving artist who would rather focus on her art than her children’s dinner. Throughout the entire novel we see acts of Rose Mary’s selfishness “Mom had us climb on top of the roof of the car a pull down tufts of spanish moss” (130).
The concentration is on comparing and finding the changes that history made to this movie genre, especially considering the gender roles. Results will clearly explain the psyche of society in two different periods, which confirms that people reflect the movies as movies have an impact on people. The Introduction It is often said that the element of surprise makes the movie more interesting and leads the plot. There are many masters of storytelling
Take the Saw series for example. The Saw movies are some of the most popular horror movies ever made. Ever since the 2004 release of the original movie, people everywhere waited and hoped for another one. Although considered a horror movie, Saw is more like a torture film. It is not just something with clowns and a murderer.
Ridley Scott, a highly renowned film director who is known for such works as Blade Runner and the recent Prometheus, reached fame through his atmospheric, and highly concentrated visual style. Scott achieved commercial breakthrough with his 1979 horror classic Alien, which presented the audience with its revolutionary style and award winning visual effects. Lead actress Sigourney Weaver plays the role of Ellen Ripley, warrant officer of the films main setting, the space towing vehicle Nostromo. Weaver accepted the unusual role as a lead female actor in an otherwise male-dominated genre of science fiction, which sparked the interest of critics everywhere, helping the film reach its critically acclaimed title. On its return back to Earth
It has been said that, “Literature you read that you like is a good book, but literature that you remember is a work of art.” Films are considered visual literature because they use visual imagery to evoke emotions and spark important conversations. It is necessary to offer audiences an opportunity to broaden their understanding of what they already know and take action. That is what Spike Lee strives to do. Spike Lee is considered one of the most influential black filmmakers due to his ability to address important social and political views through his work as well as change the representation of African Americans in Hollywood.
He has the chance to save her from the death penalty by telling the truth about his creation to save her life. He chooses to not do this and let the helpless girl die because he is afraid the truth would sound like “the ravings of a madman” (68). Victor is more concerned with not sounding crazy by telling the courts the truth, then letting Justine suffer the consequences for a crime she did not commit. This inaction is narrow-minded and leads to the death of the innocent Justine. While Justine is telling Victor and his family about how she will confess to the murder of William, Victor “had retired to a corner of the prison room” (75).
The use of ultra-violence in films is a common thing in modern films and it is mostly used as an attraction to make a film action packed. In neo-noir films, however, the use of ultra-violence signifies a deeper meaning. It is used to portray a very surreal environment in which we live in. The violence in films such as Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino might seem excessive to most, but it only serves to illustrate just how horrifying the reality can be in patriarchal hierarchical societies ruled by a single “god”. In this essay, I will discuss how the attempted murder of The Bride by Bill, the rape of The Bride by the male nurse in the hospital, and the rape and murder of O-Ren Ishii’s mother by Boss Tanaka shows how Tarantino wants us to understand how women are treated by men in the traditional realist world.
The editing, camera angles, and the music all rang bell. Comparing this film to the preview films weve watched this one was beyond in a different level. The film broke the hays code the
the cinemetogaphy displayed throughout the whole film gives the movie a different feel to it then any other drama or so called sports film ever made. This is easily one of the most powerful films that was ever made, “Raging Bull” is a cinematic masterpiece and will go down as one of the best films of all time thanks to its constant fluid theme of violent and anger and most important it cinematography which made the movie so noir . “Raging Bull” has changed the way american films and film writers are
From the cinematic techniques to the plot line, the film incorporates many elements of the style of film. Despite being set in an older period of time and adapting the elements of the spaghetti westerns, it appeals largely to the modern audience due to the certain things which capture their attention. Director Jocelyn Moorhouse
Apollo 13 is an award winning movie starring Tom Hanks and Kevin bacon that was release in June 1995. As a historical movie, many people like to think that just because it’s based on a past event the movie is granted unquestioned accuracy. Well, Apollo 13 is actually very historically accurate in its events and the setting, both outside of Earth and on Earth, but it does have a few inaccuracies in portraying the characters but were put in to make the film more interesting than the actual Apollo mission of the early 70’s. The crew of the Apollo 13 mission, both at central control and the lunar module, were depicted very differently than how they actually behaved.
One of the lengthiest and most obscure debates among cinema fans regards the topic of what is cult, what art-house and what mainstream. Usually, discussions like that do not reach a definite conclusion, however, there are some themes, notions and events that define what is cult, which is the point of interest of this particular list. The filmmakers that shot the films in this list challenged the notions of everything considered normal and even acceptable by society, in terms of politics, culture, history, society, violence and sex. This tactic originated from their non-existent regard for commercial success and resulted in broken taboos, offensive and even blasphemous images, characters, dialogues and themes, and even to a number of hilarious
So as a person who watches a decent amount of movies and works on film on the side, I would say the most intriguing of the movies
For all these reason are why this piece of film was such a treasure to view within the class and I hope more movies follow up
