he Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model (JHNEBP) is a model that is utilize as an outline to aid in the synthesis and translation of evidence into practice (Baker, 2008). The JHNEBP is made of up of 3 components of nursing. These components consist of practice, evidence, and translation. JHNEBP model also has internal and external factors that need to be considered before change can be implemented. During the practice stage/question stage a question is refined in answerable terms. Following the practice stage is the evidence phase, this particular phase evidence is conducted and evidence is screened, rated, and summarized. Recommendations are then suggested based on the results of the evidenced obtained. Lastly, the translation phase a plan is …show more content…
As it related to my PICO question and evidence based change project I was able to incorporate several steps of the JHNEBP. The practice stage as it relates to my PICO and evidence based change project, can support my PICO question. The PICO question for this evidence based project is the following: For African Americans with prediabetes, will implementation of a culturally sensitive educational program increase healthy lifestyle behaviors? During this stage I have created a question that can be answered in answerable terms. During the evidence stage research was conducted to help answer my PICO question and what information is available to help identify or aid in answer the PICO question. Information was gathered on factors that affect African Americans as it related to prediabetes, diabetes, lifestyle, dietary habits, risk factors and spiritual beliefs. Once these information was gathered, they were summarized and findings were rated on the strength of the evidence. Information was also gathered for recommendations that can affect
Ivy Tech Community College School of Nursing NRSG 128 Practice Issues for the Practical Nurse Discussion Rubric Name: ___Jasmine Liubakka___________ Date: _________10-27-15_______________ Topic of Discussion: Should the impaired nurse be allowed to return to work? Position on Topic: (1) Points ________________ Yes, I feel that as long as the nurse participates in a program that includes requirements of regular attendance at support group meetings, personal and active involvement with a 12-step sponsor, and close contact with a case manager or monitor of an alternative program, she should be allowed to return to work.
(Staten et al. 2005) Creating culturally tailored chronic disease prevention programs is important to target this specific community that has distinct needs.
Evidence-based practice will definitely be more likely to thrive in environments where nurses feel they are being supported by both management staff and available resources. When nurses are offered further resources such as hands on training or simulation training that is backed by evidenced based research they can feel more secure and confident in the job they are able to perform during their shift. Nurses can thrive in their work place organization by building onto their basic knowledge and therefor enabling the nurse to climb the clinical ladder. As our book states “continuing to apply learning contributes to ongoing evidence based practice as one uses newer research and theory as a part of one’s practice.” Nurses who take control of their
Introduction It is very important for Health programs to reach out and be able to help all sorts of different kinds of people, which are being affected by an illness or disease. Programs that know about individuals and their culture will benefit greatly, when knowing the background of their culture and why they may struggle with such problems in their health. I found two programs that are working for the people, the programs had to be beneficial with the certain cultures of people they are trying to reach out to. For one of the programs I decided to talk about was the, Black Women’s Health Impetrative and its interactions to help inform African American women the signs of Cardiovascular disease.
Ethnic Autobiography Obesity is a problem that is far more prevalent within the African American community than other racial and ethnic groups of Americans and this is particularly true among younger people (Delva et al., 2007a). The exact explanation for this is elusive and has both genetic and dietary components (Delva et al., 2007b). The proposed project is in two distinct phases. The first phase is to collect information, both through conducting surveys and through reviews of the literature, to determine why this is the case.
How will you incorporate this knowledge into your practice? Evidence-based nursing practice is essential to the delivery of high-quality care that optimizes patients’ outcomes (Norton, 2015). Studies continue to help nurses improve outcomes when best evidence is used in the delivery of patient care. First of all, the relationship between patient and primary care is very important; performing assessment of risk factors, a physical examination, and a diagnostic evaluation are some of the ways nurses can identify patients who are vulnerable. For instance, when performing a physical examination, nurses should pay specific attention to conditions associated with increased risk for sexually transmitted infections (STI).
For instance, African American have a distrust in medical institutions. Their distrust in medical institutions prevents many African Americans from getting regular checkups. Even more, African Americans are less likely to be covered by medical insurance so it is difficult for them to afford proper medical treatment. Therefore, having a community assessment of an African American community to list their medical needs can provide substantial evidence to prove the community lacks medical facilities. For the purpose of community medical improvement, gathering a group of people within the community to form a committee can empower the community to help develop a plan to educate their own community members.
John Hopkins evidence base model has three core elements; these are practice question, evidence and translation.

My topic is increasing the evidence practice use. My plan is to use the following keywords such as: Evidence based practice (EBP), clinical nursing, education, EBP and quality improvement, EBP and patient outcome, EBP and healthcare cost, EBP implementation, EBP mentors. I will use the internet, google, and Kaplan library to find articles and academic journals from reliable websites and accredited sources. I will organize my research through planning and the use of the timeline, so I know what I need to focus on each week. I will collect as much as information and start creating my references page.
Advanced Practice Nursing Course Development Institution The institution supporting this course is the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The institution is designated “magnet hospital and a level one trauma, children’s surgery center” (Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, 2017). The institution’s vision is that “Wisconsin kids will be the healthiest in the nation through care giving, advocacy, research and education (Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, 2017). This course shares similar goals which are focused on the research area of Children’s Hospital mission.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is need and used within the nursing leadership of health care today, redesigning care tgiven to patients that is effective, safe, and efficient. (Huber, 2014). The purpose of this discussion board is to discuss the helpful attributes of an organizational infrastructure and culture implementation of nursing evidence-based practices and to discuss what process my organization uses for implementing evidence-based practice. Evidence-based practice (EBP) programs within healthcare organizations is helpful in that it enable the nurses to develop competencies to promote the quality, safety and clinical decision making, problem solving as well as allows for cost effective outcomes within their environment (Stevens, 2013).
Evidence-based practice is widely recognized as being relevant to the improvement of
“What is evidence based practice?” I- Introduction The method of Evidence-based practice gained momentous in the early nineties. Its roots grew from the field of medical practice and over the years extended to a number of others fields within and outside medicine under the label of ‘Evidence-based practice’.
According to the research conducted Malik, McKenna, and Plummer (2015), 51% of participants practice referred to policies and protocols on a frequent basis, and 42% always used policies as a source of knowledge. In addition, it is common for nurses utilizing personal experience in practice but they seldom rely on journals or research. The insufficient of knowledge to determine the legitimacy of research findings would suppress the confidence to implement EBP in caring as they could not critique the research is validity or not. Besides, the ability of conceptualizing, analyzing collected data and the disseminating ability is also significant for conducting a study.
