Dinner Debate: The War of 1812 Opening Statement We are having problems with the British which is causing us to suffer as a country. This is not fair. We, as Americans, believe in fairness, and we stand together, united, when the times get rough. The British should pay for their actions, but this is not the right time, we must be prepared first. Ergo, we will have a better chance of winning. We are not prepared, for our army is weak and small, and our Navy consists of six ships. We are getting attacked on the Frontier and we should deal with that first, because we have to protect our people. If we go into battle with these attack systems, we will get crushed by the British. We can wait until we are prepared for war, so the British will panic …show more content…
They have interfered with our trading by blockading our ports, stopped our country from making money, impressed our soldiers, and taken our ships and have taken our men. But, it is not the right time to strike. We must wait for war and find a way to get around our problems. We have to build ships for our navy. Currently, it takes 3-5 years to build a Navy ship, but we don't have THAT much time. Instead, we have to take the ships that we use to trade and retrofit them with military weapons. This way, we won't have to spend all that money on Navy ships. Oliver Perry has already started building his boats and making his own fleet, and I think we should follow his lead. We should also find a way to make peace with the Native Americans. We need to convince them that Britain is bad, because they have weapons and if we become friends with them, we could take their weapons and use them for our war. Even if this means giving them back some of their land, we need to protect our people because they are top priority right now. We will lose this war if we do not wait until we are prepared. We have a small army that is in no shape to fight against the best military system in the world, and we have 6 SHIPS IN THE NAVY. That is definitely not enough ships to face a massive British Navy. The British will gain control of all of America and all our hard work, from fighting for our country,
I like how you stated there were other ways the Americans could of got Britain to treat them better. The Sons of Liberty were willing to act in non-peaceful protest; however, when American’s made the colonists the constitution they made sure to only allow peaceful protest. Only allowing peaceful protests is essential, but I almost think it is a little hypocritical. Even though the Boston Tea Party fits under terrorism the colonist definitely got their point
pd.2 The War Of 1812 In the War of 1812, the Us went up against the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain. In a conflict that would impacted on the young country’s future. The immediate causes of the war of 1812 were a series of economic sanctions taken by the british and french against the us as part of the napoleonic wars and american outrage at the british practice of the impressment especially after the chesapeake incident of 1807.
I Just saw Mr. Jonathan he came in my store and said “Have you heard we just lost Charleston, England has it under control” They were lead by Major General Benjamin Lincoln and he lost by the British Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton and his army of 10,000 at Charleston, South Carolina. He captured 3,000 Patriots and a lot of equipment and ammunition. During the siege England only lost 250 men. I replied with “What if the use those men and come north and kill us all” Jonathan said “ I don’t know what we will do we must get prepared we can’t loose with all the work we have put into this war we have risked every thing”.
Did you know that The War of 1812 started only 29 years after the American Revolution? There were several forces that led to America declaring war on Britain in 1812. Three of the reasons that led to this war are, Britain ignored American trading rights, Americans wanting to expand their land, and Jefferson announced a total embargo on American trading. The first reason to why Madison declared war on Britain was because, Britain ignored American trading rights. Additionally Britain captured American ships kidnapped sailors, in addition to making the sailors work for them.
(Tindall and Brown, Page 249) In the "impressment" of American sailors traveling to trade, they were forced into joining the British Royal Navy. This angered the Americans and is one of many reasons why the war began. According to the textbook, legislators passed the Embargo act in 1807, stopping the shipment of goods to other ports.
Great Britain had the right to allow them to disrupt American shipping to European countries and supposable force captured sailors
The American War of 1812 was the war between the young United States and their former mother country, Great Britain. This had been brewing for many years due to the British being at war with France. British was stopping American ships to keep France from trading with the United States. The British became aggressive and captured around 2,500 of the United States Navy attempting to force them to come to their ships’. “The day after the Senate followed the House of Representatives in voting to declare war against Great Britain, President James Madison signs the declaration into law–and the War of 1812 begins.”
The relationship between Britain and its American colonies was civil at first but began to strain in the mid-1700’s. In the beginning, Britain ruled colonies with little involvement because they were busy dealing with the French and Indian War among other things. As a result of this, the colonies were typically left in charge of themselves with little interference from British authorities. After years of being left alone, the colonists had developed a feeling of freedom and independence. When the war ended there was a significant change in the relations between England and the colonies.
Throughout the history of America, the nation has had many conflicts. One of the most notables, especially when referred to early history, is the Revolutionary War against Great Britain. Many people, however, may not know that even though the U.S gained independence in 1776, Britain forces returned no less than 40 years later. This conflict, or war, was known as the War of 1812. It is arguable on what exactly led Americans to declare war on Great Britain, as they can be broken up into many causes.
Events that occurred during the American Revolution Ever wondered what led to the American revolution? Or what happened in early America? This will be covering events during the period of 1763 – 1775 that caused conflict between colonial America and Great Britain. Furthermore, how the Virtual Representation of 1775 represents American colonist’s feelings about the Crown and the Great Britain Parliament. Moreover, the arguments and justification for independence of Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson.
The British Naval Forces were seizing ships not just from America but from other European Nations as well. However, what really angered the American government was how they, British Naval Forces, were not just seizing the ships but “[insulting] and [injuring] the American seamen’ (Chapter 6: The War of 1812). Understand by no means was France doing much different, they did stop some American ships from going through, however, Great Britain was by far the primary offender due to its “greater command of the sea” (Chapter 6: The War of 1812). Another insult to the American people, seamen, and American Government was when the Royal Navy captured American seamen and forced them into working for the Royal Navy. Due to this treachery President Madison went to Congress on June 1st, 1812 and asked “for a Declaration of War” even though the British complied with the demands of the American Government (War of 1812 -
Why you Should Become a Loyalist By: Kade Mims, Javion Caffey, Taylor Cole, Kevin Durnal, Jessica Henneous “Are you a loyalist?” this questions seems to be the main topic these days. We’re loyalists, and here we are telling our story. Loyalists have British protection, British support, and are reasonable in decision making.
Hello again Morgan, I also chose to write about the War of 1812 as my discussion post as it brings interesting debatable topics to view. Throughout our reading, there are multiple reasons cited for the War of 1812, but I believe that there were a few reasons that stand out from the others. Consequently, not only was war proclaimed against Britain, but also against the Indians of the West. This begs the question, would the war have been called against Britain if the settlers had been able to move westward without Indian interference? Moreover, based on this classes reading it is highly possible that this was an excuse to evict the Indians from their lands in the West, using the British alliance as a reason to declare war.
The goal of our nation is to continue to prosper, and to keep the American virtue. War would only tear this nation apart. The economy, as well as the people would suffer, and the nation would fall, and struggle to recover once again. Therefore, I am against declaring war on Great Britain. War has unpredictable outcomes, that could either ruin a nation, or just end further conflict.
“ They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger?” this statement weakens the spirits within the colonist due to the intolerable acts. Although Britain thought the act would help them strengthen it was undermined by the presence of increasing the military activities. According to henry no matter what happens the war will come, “ The war is inevitable and let it come!
