Ocean Climate Change Essay

If the climate continues to rise the coral population could become obsolete and disappear (CREARY, M. (2013). One of the most notable climate changes that damaged the coral reefs was the “El Nino” storm in 1998. This storm caused an extreme increase in the water temperature and bleached one- sixth of the corals in the World (El Niño prolongs longest global coral bleaching event. (n.d.)) Although we cannot prevent the weather, humans can reduce the amount of deforestation in rainforests that will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere.

The amount of arctic sea ice is declining more than ever. Polar bears are being greatly affected by the decreases in sea ice. (Doc A) This is affecting their diet because without enough sea ice it has been very difficult for them to catch seals to eat. Also, their population is decreasing due to the longer periods between hunts.

Increasing temperatures cause sea ice to melt, and that makes the global water level rise. This DBQ is about the most important consequence of climate change. There are multiple significant consequences of climate change, such as fires or deforestation, but the most critical consequence is sea ice melting. One reason why flooding is the most important consequence of climate change is because of how it's impacting animals. Water rising is an influential consequence of climate change because it impacts animals around the world.

One reason the earth's temperature increasing is the most important effect of climate change is the lack of resources. Document G states, "Portion of inhabited islands where drinking water must be desalinated because the sea has flooded groundwater aquifers is more than 1/3," (DG). Document G also states, "Number of islands submerged every year is 3."

Sarah Freeman’s article in The Ethicalist explains the negative effects humans have on the ocean. These negative effects include plastic pollution, global warming, and worst of all, overfishing. Overfishing occurs when a fish species is wild caught faster than it can reproduce. This leads to fewer fish in the ocean, meaning less marine biodiversity (Freeman). After Freeman spends most of her article explaining how the oceans are suffering, she then starts talking about what can be done to prevent a baren sea.

Climate change is an irreversible consequence of the damage we do to our Earth. If we do not change our ways, the global temperature will swell, causing an unchangeable series of events, consecrating detriments onto all the existence upon Earth. In only about 140 years, the average global temperature has increased 0.8 degrees celsius, and the ramification is the irreparable destruction of the place where we and millions of other species live. The most important consequence of climate change is the global increase in temperature and how that is affecting various animal species all over the Earth, the health of humans, and the rapid rise of sea level.

Arctic ice reflects 80 percent of the sunlight back into space. As sea ice melts there will be more sunlight hit the ocean which increase the temperature of the ocean and cause raise of sea level. Satellite observations show that Arctic sea ice concentrations have significantly decreased over the last 25 years. Submarine observations also suggest that the Arctic ice pack has thinned dramatically in the last 20 to 30 years. As the sea ice melts the sea level increase.

Many animals, whether they live in the ocean or the arctic are affected by climate change. Climate Change affects everybody in the world, even though some choose to ignore it, which is why it would be in humanity’s best interest to come together and find a solution. Burning fossil fuels and the increase of greenhouse gases is causing the earth to warm. Although this gas is the source of the problem we still need it, without this gas the earth would be very cold. In 2011 recreational fishermen landed more than 204.9 million pounds of saltwater fish. Commercial fishermen in the U.S. landed 9.9 billion pounds of fish and shellfish. Both recreational and commercial fishing provide over four hundred thousand jobs for the United States. The environmental impact of recreational and commercial fishing includes issues such as the availability of fish, overfishing, and left behind waste of fishing.

Global warming can cause many changes in our environment. Polar ice caps can start to melt which can cause rising sea levels and can easily lead to coastal flooding on the eastern seaboard. There can also be affects on the types of storms that can occur if global warming continues. Scientists say that category three storms can turn into a more dangerous category fours. Farms and cities will face new pests, heatwaves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding.

Consequences of global warming Global warming is causing the glaciers to melt specially in rise in sea level would destroy the plants and other species as the area would get over-flooded. The animals would die from hunger due to the deterioration of forests and plants. Ultimately the people who have survived the flood and heat would suffer at the hands of hunger as the only two sources of food we have would get destroyed due to global warming.

The topic of this research paper will cover over Ocean Acidification and the effects on marine ecosystems. Ocean acidification is the decrease in pH levels of the Earth 's oceans, due to overbearing carbon dioxide being brought by the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide is drawn by seawater, where the chemical reactions take place, which minimize the pH levels in the ocean, the carbonate levels and the important calcium carbonate which these sea creatures need. When carbon dioxide disperses in this ocean, it causes the levels of acidity to rise towards the the surface, where most shell growth in marine animals have been stopped and has created the cause of reproductive disorders in multiple fish. Part of the problem with ocean acidification is human activity.

Climate change is the most rising issue of the modern world that is threatening our planet from the last few decades. In the simplest definition, the term climate change refers to the rising of the planet’s temperature, particularly an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. It should be noted that in the last few decades, many scientists and ecologists has discovered the Earth temperature is increasing at an alarming rate and has affected the planet in numerous of way. The constant change in the climate due to various causes is threatening the preservation of the Earth and its human life. It should be noted that the climate change is linked with several of the human activities that are further directed towards the global warming.
