It’s All in the Chip
I made chocolate chip cookies with my kids on the Fourth of July this year. For some reason, I feel this a very patriotic thing to do. I didn’t try to make red, white and blue Jello, or strawberry and blueberry whip cream stuff. Although those always look great on the picnic table and can almost be the centerpiece. Everyone thought we made a particularly good batch of Toll House — but honestly — have you ever met a chocolate chip you didn’t like? Of course, chocolate chip cookies are always best with a glass of cold milk, but eating them around the pool, people really didn’t seem to need it. They went just as well with chlorine.
It would not surprise me if the Toll House is the Number One cookie that servicemen and women crave the most when they are overseas. When I lived in the Netherlands and tried to get my friends to put chunks of chocolate in their cookie dough without melting it first — well, that was just wrong!
My mom used to love to tell me the story about how Ruth Wakefield invented the cookie in 1930 at her Toll House Inn. My mom grew up in down the road from the inn located in Whitman, Massachusetts. Mrs. Wakefield was making butter

Her love and warmth radiated from her kitchen. In our more sophisticated age, we find so many more reasons to cook with kids. First, there’s the math: measuring cups and spoons, fractions, doubling recipes, counting cookies. It’s all there. Second, there’s the science. Have you ever tried to explain to a five year old why or how an egg changes when it’s cooked? Miss Frizzle did a much better job than I could. And third (and in a perfect world this would be first), there’s the tasting. How many other types of math projects are you able to eat when you are done? And the tasting will always lead to experiments. Mrs. Wakefield knew that. In my time, it was “All by Myself Cookies,” but now my kids have started with graham crackers and chocolate
Mostly I remember the candy bars on display behind the counter
The television star Julia Child allowed Americans to understand the joy of cooking and the passion to not only make food but take advantage of the “ways” the French had to experience a more delightful meal. Her television show along with the books that she made helped the people see cooking as “an immerse pleasure and a true creative outlet”. During the 1960’s she also introduced another tradition from the French cuisine which was drinking wine while having a meal. Julia Child promoted changes in food and the way kitchens were built as well. She believed that there had to be a place for everything, her kitchen had different drawers to put the materials, tools and equipment placed in particular areas and work surfaces so that she was able to cook having the right amount of space depending on what she was doing.
Dear Pepper: How the Cookie Crumbles While inventions and creations are beginning to cost more money, people get the idea that they deserve stuff for free rather than paying the price. Regarding stores, small businesses, or even food stands, people ask for free items rather than financially supporting them. In Liana Finck’s satirical cartoon, “Dear Pepper: How the Cookie Crumbles,” the author expresses her criticism and argues that she loves to make and sell cookies, but it is very irritating when people ask for free cookies because she works so hard to make them.
As I look at this picture, it makes me think about the time I took responsibility for my little cousins. This picture was taken the day I took cousins to Chuck E Cheeses for the first time. My family lives in Oregon, but my extended family lives in California, all around the Bay Area that’s where my family is from there too. While I like Oregon, I try to find any excuse to visit California. So two years ago during spring break, my sister and I decided to go to California.

When I was seventeen I worked at a fast food restaurant called Tim Hortons. It was my second job and I surprisingly didn’t hate it. Actually, I really quite enjoyed the people that I worked with. During school days I would work the evening shift, which was from 2 P.M. to 10 P.M. Then on the weekends I would work in the morning from 6 A.M. to 2 P.M..
Sugar Detox Results The 21-Day sugar has been growing in popularity recently. I had always been curious about trying it but hesitant of jumping on the wagon. I wasn’t quite sure if it was legitimate or a trend. Ever since I entered college, I lived a life of sitting in study halls and eating top ramen.
The first reason chocolate milk should be in schools is because it is actually very healthy for all kids. The most important reason is, all kinds of milk have the same 9 essential nutrients to keep our bodies healthy. They are: calcium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, riboflavin, and niacin. All of these are in chocolate milk which proves it has nutrients for our bodies. Others may say that chocolate milk has so much sugar because there is the word chocolate in the name, but I argue that you can’t just guess that the chocolate in

Within seconds, my entire face blew up, cheeks bigger than a chipmunk, eyes bigger than a fly, hives redder than a tomato; I had no idea what was happening. My mom panicked in a frenzy, dialed 9-1-1, and in a short period of time, I found out life-changing news: I was one of the unlucky 3 million people to be diagnosed with having a fatal peanut allergy. Being included in the minority of people who have such a severe allergy is difficult, especially when everyone around is nomming away on delicious treats, namely Kit Kats or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Growing up and attending birthday parties were hard too; when everyone was enjoying a tasty confetti-flavored cake, I was nibbling on Little Bites brownies, holding onto my EpiPen instead. In these moments I felt out of place; it made me feel weird that prior to the party, my mom had to directly hand a special snack for me to eat to a parent who would hold onto it until it was time for food.
