It was difficult for him because he had no matches. Eventually, he succeeded when he learnt how to correctly strike a stone with his hatchet to ignite sparks that were used to make fire. Then he found some turtle eggs. He took them and ate some because he was so desperate for something to eat. He wanted to save the rest of the eggs for later, so he hid them under ground.

After the hurricane, and Timothy’s death, Philip understands why Timothy had taught him to do all that he did. In the novel, the author says that for the first time, Philip fully understood why Timothy had taught him how to navigate the island and the reef(Taylor 123). Philip had to become completely independent on himself, and it was not easy on him, but with Timothy’s training, it was easier than it would have been without

In preparation for the oncoming hurricane, the government created online websites with plans of what preparations should be made by people who were being evacuated or wanted to stay put. Although storms like Hurricane Katrina occur once in every one hundred years, being prepared and storing water, food, medicines, and other supplies keep families ready for any disaster. Natural disasters can leave communities without power for days and even for weeks. Being prepared in the event of severe weather and disasters like Hurricane Katrina, can reduce fear and anxiety that accompanies disasters. A crucial element of self-sufficient living is survival. Our government does not have all the resources to be totally prepared to take care of the vast numbers of people in a disaster.
Fire has a lot of qualities that it shares with a home. In a home there is warmth and the fire gives off warmth. Homes also have light and, so does the fire. With the fire he can cook meals. Animals do not like fire and stay away from it, so with the fire Brian can be safe from animals.
In William Golding novel Lord of the Flies, it states “ We need to continue finding the wood”. This quote demonstrates that the group boys worked together to light the
The fire is used constantly in the novel to cook food which increases the boys’ chance to survive. By keeping the signal fire going, they hope to attract the attention of passing boats or aircrafts so they can be rescued. The fire starts off on the mountain but then later moves to the beach. Because it is linked closely to the boys’ return to society, it becomes the indicator of the hope. For example, when the signal fire is out, Ralphs’ hope is erased since they miss their greatest chance to be rescued.
In the middle of the story, Piggy discusses, “We got no fire on the mountain. But what’s wrong with a fire down here? A fire could be built on them rocks. On the sand, even. We’d make smoke just the same” (129).

In the first meeting Ralph says "There's another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire.
The first fire is built to signal ships for their rescue; it symbolizes hope here. Once the fire is burning brightly, the boys “paused to enjoy the freshness of [the fire]... they flung themselves down in the shadows that lay among the shattered rocks,” (41). The fire comforts the young island inhabitants because it lets them relax with the hope of getting rescued. The boys on the island start to lose hope, even Ralph. Ralph tells Piggy “let the fire go then, for tonight,” (164), showing that he has stopped caring about getting home.

The fire was also a symbol of civilization, that the boys would survive and get rescued. Fire is quite profound in what it reveals about humans. The fire was the object that the hunters didn’t have, it was desirable because it was limited. The fire brought out the innate greed that humans possess. The hunters weren’t content with asking for fire from Ralph, they were too prideful and savage to be civil in any manner, so they stole it.
