The Softball Pitcher is the Most Influential Position on the Team Coach said there is no “I” in team, yet sometimes it felt as if there should be one. As the only pitcher on my high school fast-pitch softball team, I was often exhausted by the end of a game, but I knew my only option was to keep pitching. Although the fielders behind me were trying hard, none were great athletes; we all knew that if I did not strike a batter out, my defense would often be unable to make an out in the field. In fast-pitch softball, the pitcher is the team’s most influential position by limiting batter effectiveness, staying physically and mentally tough, and being a key fielder.

My softball teams include the Conemaugh Valley High School and the Keystone Stinger teams. On my high school team, I am the starting pitcher and we were very successful this year. We had an undefeated regular season, won our conference

At the end of my presentation, the audience will be able to explain the reasoning why the Little League World Series makes kids strive to succeed in the sport of baseball. So, I wrote this speech a little while ago so bear with me, four score and seven years……. oh I apologize that’s the wrong speech. So for starters….(start into Relevancy Statement). My topic is relevant to you because if you have kids or want to have kids you should get them involved in sports, my presentation specifically supports why they should play baseball or softball.

Regardless of the names, both sports share a similar goal which is to win, learn, and become the best player possible through offensive and defensive experiences. Both softball and baseball have similarities due to the shared basics of the games as well as the goal. The main example of this is the basic rules of the game; teams will rotate between fielding and batting with every three outs; if a hitter has a count of three strikes, they are out; the team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Baseball and softball games also only allow nine players on the field while fielding or playing defense and one batter from the opposing team at home plate playing offense. Both sports also only have three bases which are first, second, and third as well as home plate.

Having a dad that is a softball coach, has also motivated me to work my hardest, and do my best. I was only in third grade, when I decided to become a softball pitcher. I worked every day, doing the best that I could. Sometimes I was right in the strike zone, other times it was “miles” over the catcher's head. For a small 9 year old girl I guess I was pretty good.

Softball players must have pristine timing and have a consciousness of the varying types of pitches. Much like other sports, baseball and softball have traits that balance one another's obstacles. Ultimately, the call to which is more difficult can go both

For most of my childhood, the sport of baseball was the one activity I loved above anything else. Nothing could compare to the exhilarating freedom and satisfaction of bolting full speed around the bases, determined to steal 2nd, beating the "Throwdown" by a fraction of a second. The massive dust cloud kicked up by my cleats and the thunderous boom of the umpire shouting, "Safe!" made me feel empowered. It was in moments like those, when I was in control of my own fate, choosing whether to stay or to run, whether to play it safe or to risk failure, that I learned one of the most important lessons of my life.

At first you might not think you’re good but you can get better. That was my reasoning on why you should play softball. Along with some facts about the sport. A lot of girls play the sport and I hope that you will too.

All you need to have to enjoy this place is your friends, family, blackout, Gatorade, a softball, a team, bat, glove, helmet, love, fun, caring, excitement, and batting gloves. You don't just need that to make sure this game happens without support of other this game would never be. I love the way my team makes everyone comfortable on the field, that's why I love softball because everyone is there for you. A softball field does not just have all those great qualities there is laughter and happiness that also have to be in that mix. If we had none of this there would be no joy to softball.

My teammates and coaches have made a huge impact on me as well. They taught me that if we truly wanted something we can only achieve it by working together. Teamwork is key in a group sport. If you all aren't working together it will be nearly impossible to get the job done.

Over the years I’ve gotten stronger, faster, and overall better at softball. Four years into it and I have some great and some painful stories. I’ve learned many things about softball, but one that has stuck out to me and that also applies to life is that it can be fun.

This has given me a sense of maturity that I can approach things in life thinking that everything is a learning experience and no matter how large the failure, the success can always be bigger. My coaches have also taught me how to respect the game because it has created a respect that I can take into the real world. The respect that I show to umpires and to players on the other team has shown me that the players who represent the game make up what the game stands

For the last eight years, softball has shaped my life and taught me many things about leadership, sportsmanship, and how to work as a team. Softball has always made me happy, it’s not just the sport that makes me happy, but it’s the place that I get to go and the people that I get to play it with. Every time I’m on the field or in the cages I feel the most content. The softball field and cages are my sanctuary.
