Diffident little Greg was being languid. All he did was watch TV and do nothing with his pathetic life. One day he realized he was malcontent with the continuum that is his life. He decided he was going to augment his attitude. He decided to go on a journey to become intrepid which would be a travail for him as he normally does nothing at all. The journey would take an adroit human which he was not. Greg’s dogmatic and choleric mother would always remind him with philippic words that he was basically defunct. Greg, being the gullible boy he was, only took that as a peccadillo instead of making a big deal out of it. When he set off towards the mountains on his journey he realized the mountains are very abstract and hard to navigate through.
He left his house and drove towards West. McCanless was inventing a new life. He was determined, adventurous, and brave young man. He was trying to find a new horizon each day. He lived how he wanted to live, but without an unplanned and unexpected finale.
Questions soon arose. Why was he there? What happened to him? In time, these questions were answered, and painted a picture of somebody different from the rest of us, somebody achieving something beyond life. Chris McCandless had traveled across the country, living nomadically while on his adventures.
An infamously lifelong agnostic, he discovered something. The man looked into the sky that morning. He watched the enchanting metamorphosis of the plethora of colors. It started with a dark navy blue. The first rays of rosy-cheeked Dawn combined with it to create a splendid magenta and then went into a phase of marigold.
The problem, he faces may seem too much to handle and the comfort of him far more attractive than the perilous road ahead. So Richard packs some of his things says goodbye to his family and gets ready for the journey ahead. Leaving the known limits of Richard 's world and venturing into an unknown and dangerous realm where the rules and limits are unknown.
His sister, Carine, mentioned that he was mesmerized by nature when they first started taking hikes. His character started to build up when he was only a young curious boy. From a young age, he grew up quicker and had a passion for adventure. Thoreau quotes “You are lost the moment you set foot there. You know the path, but wonder, thrilled, over the bare and pathless rock, as if it were solidified air and cloud.”
His room travel helps him learn that exploring new things is a trial and error process. De Botton wrote, “ We become taken up with adjusting ourselves to the companion’s questions and remarks, we have to make ourselves seem more normal than good for curiosity… I had the freedom to act a little weirdly” (De Botton 64).
This text taught me that discovering yourself is an adventure. For Chris McCandless it was quite a literal adventure but to me it was highly symbolic for an average person going on an “adventure” to discover oneself. There’s going to be things that will challenge you and the way that you have perceived things your whole life but at the end there is a destination. This text was incredibly refreshing to me and impacted me more than any novel has thus far. Chris McCandless left his privileged life as a dead man,
Over The next few weeks, Christian and David spent a lot of time with my sister and me, taking us on tours of the country and showing us all of their favorite getaway spots. The land was so beautiful that I soon found myself falling even more in love with it than I had before. I also found myself falling for him as well I could see that he was kind, helpful and so sweet. It definitely worked in his favor that he was drop dead gorgeous, but honestly what I loved the most about him was that he behaved as though he was from a different era, his good manners and proper speech, where a couple of the most tantalizing things about him to me. With each day that passed, I found it more and more challenging to keep my distance from him.
We head off to college. As Liam and I are heading to college we are talking about what we want to do when we get older. And Liam tells me that he wants to travel the world and make adventures. And I tell Liam that I want to also travel the world and become a writer. Music starts playing and we start jamming out to the music.
- 559 I knew Rebecca would cause a bit of mischief, but I never would have guess she would inform the media that my daughter and Trever were engaged or soon to be. She knew Aeryn was arriving with her boyfriend and would dare embarrass my daughter with the whole world watching. I did know some of things foolish she had planned, but I must admit I did not see the sneak attack at the car or leaving word at the door coming. I may have no other choice except to take things into my own hands, and not even Aeryn will be able to hold back a smile from blooming on her face when I do. For now, I needed to get things moving forward on my end.
"And lastly, with finals rapidly approaching, this year tutoring and study sessions will be available in the library during lunch periods and after school, for students who'd like to attend. Thank you, and have a good day." Clemmons signed off the morning announcements, and Veronica rolled her eyes at Wallace, next to her in the hall. "Like we need the reminder that finals week is coming." Veronica dragged her feet to her locker.
The reader gets to join McCandless in his adventure across the country as he invents a new life for himself. He embraces the ideas and morals of Thoreau and Emerson in his journey. In the book, a man by the man by the name of Westerberg discusses about how McCandless is not destroying his possessions and journey around the wild because the wild he is suicidal or unintelligent. “You could tell right away that Alex was intelligent… He always had to know the absolute right answer before he could go on to the next thing.”
I ran with a dead man. Well, I ran on the same team as him, and he wasn’t exactly dead while he was a runner. We were both on the Fort Mill track team, striving to better our bodies and our minds, by both going to sports and attending class. He was a senior, I was a sophomore . His name is Tee Muhammad.
He starts off by introducing the story of Gene Rossellini, a brilliant man who chose to abandon society to look for answers to his curiosities but he ended up committing suicide when he did not get the results that he wanted. Like Rossellini, Chris also chose to abandon his wealth and chose to cut himself from society due to his beliefs and connection with nature. In contrast, unlike Rossellini, Chris did not give up and did not commit suicide when he made a fatal mistake which caused him his life. Next, the author introduces the story of John Mallon Waterman, a risk taker and a very talented mountain climber, who eventually became mentally unstable due to the depressing situations he experienced which possibly prompted him to climb Mt. Denali and end his life.
This was a human being, dying. This was the only time there was going to be someone with those eyes and those ears and that way of breathing through her mouth and that way of building up right before a monster laugh with her eyebrows all raised and her nostrils flaring a little bit. This was the only time there was ever going to be that person, living in the world, and now that was almost over, and I couldn't deal with it” (Andrews Loc. 276). This excerpt shows the characterization of Greg. Also, it shows how his philosophies change over the course of the story as a dynamic character.
