Have you ever had a bad holiday? This last Thanksgiving wasn’t the best holiday I’ve encountered. The vacation was four days long and it was fun, but the Thanksgiving meal wasn’t satisfying. We left Wednesday around 9:00 a.m. and got to Watertown, Wisconsin somewhere between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The trip was better than what it usually is, we made good timing, I kept myself occupied, took a nap, and ate a good lunch. When we got to our Grandparent’s house, my mom’s family side, in Watertown we had supper and went to church at 7:00. The church was packed so we had to sit in the balcony, and the balcony is cool because it sort of wraps around the top. When we got home we relaxed and just hung out. The next morning I woke up late, and my
Reading the comic strip “True Tales of the Amerikkkan History Part II: The True Thanksgiving” artist Jim Mahfood, examines different views on ethnicity, specifically the differences between American Indians and Whites, through the views of a naïve and native youngster. Mahfood, utilizes a classic nine panel format with “True Tales of the Amerikkkan History Part II: The True Thanksgiving”, which traces the youths discussion about Thanksgiving. This discussion between the white kid and the Native American kid, shows the vast differences between both youths perception of the traditional American holiday. Mahfood’s portrayal of the white kid, as a self-absorbed follower of society and as direct reflection of his apparently, uncompassionate
Dr. Meyers, Hello! I hope your Thanksgiving was rejuvenating and enjoyable with family and friends. This is Angelia (Angel) Hirsch from the summer practicum course through Liberty University. I am not certain what happened over the week of Thanksgiving, but our house (which is a 125 year-old historical home, really a niche market, not many want to deal with the special things that come along with the age and up keep) suddenly went into high demand and we had numerous offers come in on Wednesday!
Every year on the fourth Thursday of November my family celebrates Thanksgiving at my house. We always have my dad’s side of the family comes and celebrates Thanksgiving. It is a fun day surrounded by my family. We Begin, by having my dad’s side of the family come over to my house.
Martha looked at the myth of Thanksgiving. The idea that an entire family would happily get together for a huge meal. The family will think and talk about everything that they are thankful for. This is heavily discussed in elementary schools. As a child I remember my teacher suggesting that at dinner we should go around the table and have each family member say something that they are thankful for.
Thanksgiving is an overabundance of all senses. Whether it’s the smell and taste of the food, or the emotions after not seeing a certain family member for so long. During Thanksgiving there is an immense amount of sensory
Do we really need to create a law that requires all businesses to close for Thanksgiving? No, because for the simple fact businesses only stay open during the Thanksgiving Holiday because of the amount of revenue it receives from the customers within the community. It is not always about how much money will be lost or gained, but how someone celebrates Thanksgiving. Some people do not get the opportunity to spend that time with family because they are stuck at work trying to supply for their family. Even though some may argue that, creating a law to close businesses on Thanksgiving would violate some people Freedom of Religion and/or Belief.
I was waking up at 6, helping make breakfast for the Native American children, then going to do construction at someone’s home. Then after all that we had our VBS for the children which was the most fun I ever had. After VBS, since most of the children don’t have family friendly homes, we hung out with them until the town curfew came, which was 11:30PM. The children were always reluctant to go home but we assured them we would see them again tomorrow, Lord
Do you ever wonder what your friends Thanksgivings are like? People celebrate many Thanksgiving. People have all kinds of activities going on during Thanksgiving. Some people for Thanksgiving, it might be only five miles, or it could be one-hundred miles. Other people do not even celebrate the holiday that is meant to come together and give thanks.
My perspective on Thanksgiving had completely changed after reading this article. I truly believed that Thanksgiving was a happy time, a time of thanks and a celebration of the first harvest. People today celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to get together with loved ones, have a big dinner, to give thanks and go shopping. The first Thanksgiving was never actually documented.
Hope and pray everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Family and Friends. It was just the three of us this year. I (with the help of my son Jerrid) cooked a ham, turkey (breast), dressing, pea salad, potato salad, rolls, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie. It was so good. I had planned to also have green bean casserole but ran out of steam.
Saint Patrick’s Day is very special for me, the day I was born, March 17, 1999. I was born and raised in Henrico, Virginia. My oldest sister, Katie, is five years older than me. We were all one, big, happy family. The divorce was experienced when I was seven; I was not able to understand the effects of this event.
kind of prepared myself before I came here for the cold. My typical Thanksgiving dinner was great, at my friend house they prepared different kind of meals some which was my first time to eat but it wasn’t I first time eating turkey. The food I ate they taste good but I still prefer African food. I had some difficulties in my chemistry class in the beginning of the class
The day came it was early morning, bird singing, warm temperature, and a beautiful blue sky perfect weather. I woke up and it was fishing time, I was so excited. I remember my room being so messy and my parents told me to clean before we left, so I did. I was so excited that I cleaned my room and did some other chores around the house so fast cause I just wanted to go fishing. We got to the car and left to rocky mountain at our fishing spot and I was just being like most annoying kid would say, "Where are we?", "Are we lost?", and "Are we there yet?
I have been here for couple of years and a standout amongst the most exceptional and huge day for me has been Thanksgiving day. This day of the year when all the relatives from entire nation meet to cherish the day of Thanksgiving. For me Thanksgiving is special as it gives me a moment to unite with my cousins and other relative who are normally occupied during the time with their study and their work it is that time when we meet up to play a game of
I walked into a diner at three in the morning after slamming into a stranger on their way out. It was one of those 24/7-except-Christmas-and-Thanksgiving-and-sometimes-Labor-Day diners just on this side of being a twee dump desperately pulled from the fifties. Two guys in trilbies sitting in a booth against a wall were hunched over their cups of steaming coffee whispering. I wondered if they were spies or something of the like and thought tepidly about their government svengalis.
