Dr. Meyers, Hello! I hope your Thanksgiving was rejuvenating and enjoyable with family and friends. This is Angelia (Angel) Hirsch from the summer practicum course through Liberty University. I am not certain what happened over the week of Thanksgiving, but our house (which is a 125 year-old historical home, really a niche market, not many want to deal with the special things that come along with the age and up keep) suddenly went into high demand and we had numerous offers come in on Wednesday!

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November my family celebrates Thanksgiving at my house. We always have my dad’s side of the family comes and celebrates Thanksgiving. It is a fun day surrounded by my family. We Begin, by having my dad’s side of the family come over to my house.

Martha looked at the myth of Thanksgiving. The idea that an entire family would happily get together for a huge meal. The family will think and talk about everything that they are thankful for. This is heavily discussed in elementary schools. As a child I remember my teacher suggesting that at dinner we should go around the table and have each family member say something that they are thankful for.

Do we really need to create a law that requires all businesses to close for Thanksgiving? No, because for the simple fact businesses only stay open during the Thanksgiving Holiday because of the amount of revenue it receives from the customers within the community. It is not always about how much money will be lost or gained, but how someone celebrates Thanksgiving. Some people do not get the opportunity to spend that time with family because they are stuck at work trying to supply for their family. Even though some may argue that, creating a law to close businesses on Thanksgiving would violate some people Freedom of Religion and/or Belief.

I was waking up at 6, helping make breakfast for the Native American children, then going to do construction at someone’s home. Then after all that we had our VBS for the children which was the most fun I ever had. After VBS, since most of the children don’t have family friendly homes, we hung out with them until the town curfew came, which was 11:30PM. Do you ever wonder what your friends Thanksgivings are like? People celebrate many Thanksgiving. People have all kinds of activities going on during Thanksgiving. Some people for Thanksgiving, it might be only five miles, or it could be one-hundred miles. Other people do not even celebrate the holiday that is meant to come together and give thanks.

My perspective on Thanksgiving had completely changed after reading this article. I truly believed that Thanksgiving was a happy time, a time of thanks and a celebration of the first harvest. People today celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to get together with loved ones, have a big dinner, to give thanks and go shopping. The first Thanksgiving was never actually documented.

Hope and pray everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Family and Friends. It was just the three of us this year. I (with the help of my son Jerrid) cooked a ham, turkey (breast), dressing, pea salad, potato salad, rolls, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie. It was so good. Saint Patrick’s Day is very special for me, the day I was born, March 17, 1999. I was born and raised in Henrico, Virginia. My oldest sister, Katie, is five years older than me. We were all one, big, happy family. The divorce was experienced when I was seven; I was not able to understand the effects of this event.

I walked into a diner at three in the morning after slamming into a stranger on their way out. It was one of those 24/7-except-Christmas-and-Thanksgiving-and-sometimes-Labor-Day diners just on this side of being a twee dump desperately pulled from the fifties. Two guys in trilbies sitting in a booth against a wall were hunched over their cups of steaming coffee whispering.
