Beginning at the age of nine I had issues with my knee, issues entails whenever I extended my leg or ran my knee cap would slide out of place. When I first noticed it my parents and I set up an appointment with an orthopedic doctor to look further into the problem. After a few other appointments with multiple doctors, we decided to try physical therapy and a knee brace. Various doctors wanted to do surgery but considering I was only nine, surgery was not our choice. After a while we decided to leave the problem alone and see what happened as I grew. Although there were difficulties, such as pain, not being able to run, and various dreadful issues. When I only extended my leg it did not hurt immensely, it felt like a ball rolling over

Ready! Set! Go! As the elder referee fires the flare gun, the runners take off. Among the runners are several serious athletes, including Josiah, who are competing for the "Number One in the Nation" award.
Sophomore year I was playing at a soccer tournament with my old team. I was playing a great game even though the score was not reflecting my hard work. Towards the end of the game I jumped up caught the ball landed, my body went one way and my legs went the other, then I fell to the ground. Everyone around me had heard a pop, I knew it was my ACL. From this moment in my soccer career I knew I needed to be determined and to be focused on my recovery in order to get back out there.
“Anthony come down here.” my mom called from downstairs. “I’ll be right there hold on mom.”... Hey, I´m gonna tell you about myself. Unable to straighten my leg I became very panicked but my coach assured me that I would be ok. Little did he know that it was going to be a life altering injury. The next day I went to my doctor’s office to get my knee checked out (I was still worried because my knee was still
Last year, my Osteopathic application was made in haste and was submitted as a back up plan to failing Allopathic applications. As a part of completing the primary application and also preparing for Osteopathic interviews, I discovered that the Osteopathic philosophy appeared to be a better fit for me. Shadowing an Osteopathic physician as well as an Allopathic physician has solidified this observation. Last year’s failed attempt to gain entry to medical school has been soul crushing and has forced me to consider other career paths. During this period, I have examined many options.
It’s a common disease for athletes. It all started when I was in fourth grade. I’m 19 now, and I’ve had this disease for ten years now. I told my parents that I had a bump on my knee.
In same studies it showed that among the subjects between 25 and 74 years of age, the prevalence of knee symptoms such as pain, swelling and morning stiffness increased with age and knee pain was slightly higher among women compared to men (Hannan et al, 2000). Knee pain is very likely a health problem with tremendous health care costs, despite the lack of direct cost estimates. In 1996–1997, more than 6 million Americans sought medical care for knee problems (Peat et al
When I was eleven years old, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament, more commonly known as the ACL while playing in a football game. Being only eleven years old, this was a pretty unusual injury as most ACL tears do not happen until mid to later teens. Hearing that I tore my ACL was pretty devastating. I did not know much about it, but I knew enough to know I would be out of sports for a long time. The next nine months of my life were spent with one goal in mind: getting back to sports.
I was overjoyed, as I had just made the Carmel Select travel lacrosse team, which I had worked tenaciously hard to make during the winter. Throughout this stretch of time however, I was experiencing sharp knee pains in my right knee every so often. After an x-ray of my knee and an MRI, I was officially diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans. As time went on, more and more plans began to unravel turning an original three-month absence from physical activity, to a yearlong ordeal.
My interest in a counseling related profession and helping others spawned as a result of a lifetime of learning and curiosity; namely, mindfully molding my thoughts, actions, and habits into a perpetual pattern of unconscious and unpremeditated altruistic behavior. Furthermore, I have always aspired to determine the roots of all my emotions and master the behaviors of a trustworthy, loyal, courteous, and kind individual. Every day should begin with the thought, “What can I, as an individual or collaboratively with others, accomplish to relieve part of the shared and total human suffering of this world?” If such a mantra was revered by the collective consciousness of the human race, misery and suffering would be sharply reduced, if not eliminated
My ACL Tear Journey At The Hospital A quick turn on a soccer field led me to the worst experience in my life. A while back in my sophomore year I tore my ACL while I was practicing for my first soccer game of the school year. I made a quick turn without positioning my feet correctly on the ground. I thought that I broke my knee, but I never knew that after that day I would have experienced the worst day a month after on February 15th.
Difficulties from spondylolysis plagued me for years in my teens. When the discomfort first began, I presumptuously told myself I remained tough enough to continue to play baseball through the pain; however, the soreness worsened, I needed to wear a back brace, and required several months of rest to heal. The downtime proved almost as painful as the injury itself. I felt well after this recovery period, except just as physical therapy ended, the achiness returned; a CT scan revealed not one, but two unhealed fractures that needed to be surgically repaired. During the weeks after surgery, I relied on a walker, and my pessimistic attitude caused many mental obstacles, one of which questioned my capability to be the athlete I was prior to my injury.
Friday, April 19, 2013, took place when I was in fifth grade, a month away from leaving the elementary school I had grown to love. I woke up later than normal because I had an operation scheduled for my knee, for it had loose ligaments that caused the kneecap to slip out of place. The first time that my kneecap popped out of joint took place when I stepped down the stairs at my grandma’s house on a cold November night. From that point on, I had to be extra careful in gym class. One time I ended up kicking a ball in Big Base and fell down because my knee had popped.
I have always heard the phrase that as one journey ends another one begins, but I never truly understood how accurate this phrase could be for me. The efforts to discover what was causing my pain was an ironically distressing journey of confusion, bafflement, and disappointment up until this appointment. I will forever remember WellSpan Orthopedics because it provided a reason for my hip pain that was just dismissed by others, but opened up a whole new realm of discovery about my health. On December 11, 2015, as I entered the doctor’s office, I was a ball of nerves.
