Morgan Corthell Professor Jim Goar English 102-01 Sunday, October 29th Robert Jason Owens And The Murder Of An Unborn Child On March 12th, 2015, Cristie Schoen Codd and her husband, J.T Codd were brutally murdered by long-time neighbor Robert Jason Owens. At the time of her death, Schoen was five months pregnant with their first child, a girl, who was to be named Skylar. Owens was charged with three counts of murder in the 2nd degree and two counts of concealment of evidence of death by unnatural causes.

If a mother finds out that giving birth to her child could cause her death, she should have the option to abort the fetus. It’s never an easy decision, but the option should be available. Circumstances that would make a women need to get an abortion to save her life are severe infections, heart failure and severe cases of preeclampsia (high risk for stroke). Again, as John Locke said “being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions. ”[1] Taking away the option to get an abortion from a woman whose life is on the line because of the fetus she is carrying, is harming her right to life and health.

This is the time where they can be taken from the womb and have a chance of a long lasting life with proper care, or the point of viability. They do not apply as a person with rights before this time, as they are not true human beings. They are inside the mother, who has all the right to her

Abortion is just a technical way of saying the murder of a unborn and should be abolished. Abortion is murder. However, in most cases it is the embryo that is aborted and not a fetus, which is the stage in which the embryo starts to develop. As such an embryo cannot be written in statistics as a life lived as it is dependent solely on the carrier, thus aborting at this stage technically should not be considered as the taking of life but as a decision on whether to facilitate this possible life. It seems that people who have an abortion easily think the fetus is just a thing. We should know how serious of a health risk this action is for our soul and body. Some believe that the removal of a fetus is murder, but scientifically that is not true. Many members of the medical community would argue that “[t]here is a difference between killing or destroying something and preventing something from coming into existence… Abortion is inherently different from other procedures because no other procedure involves the purposeful termination of potential life.” There is a difference between the destruction of an already living human being, and the termination of potential life. In one case, the mother’s life can be ruined or made much more complex, or take away from some aspects of their life. But, with a fetus, it hasn’t been able to go and start a life.

It is estimated that 1.2 million babies are aborted every year (Guttmatcher Institute 2011). Abortion is a brutal murder of an unborn child. Whether the abortion is completed using drugs like RU- 486, or the surgical procedure, you are taking away a life and killing a human being. The baby is alive and not just some 'group of cells' like abortion doctors like to tell their patients. You are painfully putting a child to death which is morally wrong.
