The United States is known to be nation built on immigrants. Undocumented immigrants, also are commonly referred to as illegal immigrants, unauthorized immigrants, or aliens, is a political topic that has been debated for many years. Many people would think that everyone should be given an opportunity for citizenship since this nation was founded by other foreigners. Anti-Immigration supporters believe otherwise and argues that illegal immigrants are ruining our country with terrorism or creating economic inequality by stealing jobs. Whenever undocumented immigrants are the subject of discussion, many naturally presume that Mexicans are being referred to. In the documentary, the directors displays a caravan that was painted “Immigrants makes PWC” in protest of the legislation. In fact, immigrants makes the whole country. During 2007, the United States’s economy was not profitable at the time. By passing this law, it produced more damage to Prince William County’s local economy. Many families felt the rising tension between the residents and decided to move elsewhere. More importantly, their money moved too. Aviva Chomsky, author of Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal, states “Other economists, however, have found that the low-wage labor of undocumented immigrants actually increases the wages and employment of even low-paid citizen workers. By increasing productivity, low-paid undocumented workers can increase capital available for investment, hiring, and wages. Because undocumented workers add to the population, their consumption stimulates the economy.” Prince William County’s action of targeting the low-income population lead to an increase of foreclosures, decline of retail sales and sales tax, and multiple business failures. The financial consequences of the displacement of the Hispanics lead to the resident’s realization of the importance of immigrants to their county.
