Malcom Gladwell, the author of The Outliers, analyzes the factors to success based on real-life example. Through statistical facts and logical reasoning, he attempts to prove how success is more than just hard work and being intelligent. He supports his arguments with accurately calculated statistical facts to gain the trust of his audience and to work towards 2proving his points. Gladwell determines the reasons of success by comparing well-known successful people and finding commonalities between those people. Gladwell does not believe anyone can be a self-made man.

He claims that extraneous information regarding any subject hinders a proper decision of a person. The book is solely based on the theme of judgment and the ways various events are to be dealt. According to Gladwell,

Don’t Face a Problem, Burn It Not often does one find a book that has a message so great that it is almost frightening. Ray Bradbury wrote a book titled Fahrenheit 451. This novel is about censorship and what could become of it. In this book the main character, Guy Montag believes he is happy.

The book Outliers The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell is about how the successful people in this world came to be as successful as they are. These ways include birth dates and years, where they come from and their culture, the language spoken and the classes they took. The outliers in this book were given opportunities and since they had the right mind set, they were able to take it and become the people they are. Each chapter is a story of a different person’s life and how they reached their level of success. Then, towards the end of the chapter, it explains how they reached it.

In "Outliers: The story of success", Malcom Gladwell explained and gave examples of ways to be successful. There are many ways that Gladwell mentioned, such as luck, practice, background, family, and culture. There are many more of course, but I will save time. There are three of which I think are the most important, these being Intelligence, Social Skills, and Location; and these are explanations as to why I think these are the most important.

Gladwell’s purpose for writing Blink is to explain the secret potential of our subconscious mind and talk about its importance in relationships, decision making, and society. Gladwell’s audience for Blink is young adults and adults of modern society. This is the audience because of the overall topic of the book and the intelligence level of the book. The tone he uses in blink is factual however, he doesn’t have a monotone or boring way of explaining it, he’s compelling and energetic along with informative.

In Gladwell’s best-selling novel, “Outliers”, the belief that 10,000 hours of practice makes a person an expert seems to be a prominent theme. “The emerging picture from such studies is that ten thousand hours of practice are required to achieve the level of mastery associated with being a world-class expert–in anything” (Gladwell 40). According to recent research, 10,000 is the number of hours put in by all experts on certain skills, like music, sports, or art. This research is why the majority believes in the rule that Malcolm Gladwell made so famous.

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell teaches you the understanding of success. Malcolm Gladwell in the book Outliers uses logos, pathos, and ethos to get his argument across. Outliers was written for the purpose to show the audience that success isn’t all on how hard you work, raw talent, intelligence or personality traits. Success comes from your culture, who your parents are, when you were born and the opportunities you have been given. The argument by logic, emotion and character are all put into Outliers to convince the readers that success is what you make of it.

Gladwell 's main argument is that although hard work and talent are essential for success, one’s given opportunities and cultural legacy are what really drive them to the pinnacle of success. The first aspect that Gladwell introduces to support his argument is the importance of opportunity. One example that he talks about is “The Matthew Effect”. “The Matthew Effect” is shown through the Medicine Hat Tigers elite hockey team of Canada; if one was to look at the roster, which includes their birth dates, they would find something quite peculiar.

First of all, the opportunity of relative age that gives maturity from early birth date and extends the small advantage from maturity by giving them more experience refutes his assertion that success can be attained with only hard working. Secondly, the opportunity of having practical intelligence that enables people to change the situation in a good way refutes his assertion that success can be achieved by only self- assertiveness.
