Many years ago, the first organized American Police Department system was started in Boston, in 1838. (Dempsey & Forst, 20120 p. 7). The Boston Police Department provided 24 hour service which, was funded by the New York legislature. Most of the policeman on the force had little to no training but that changed over time as the importance of law enforcement in society became more prominent. As time progressed so did the police department 's use of technology to better equip the officers with easier means to do their jobs.

Over 350 years back, America's first known system of law requirement was built up in Boston. When pioneers had settled there in 1630, nearby statutes had took into account constables to be delegated. In 1833, Philadelphia composed a free, 24-hour police power. In 1838, the Boston Police force was set up, with a day police and night watch working autonomously. New York City went with the same pattern in 1844, turning into the New York City Police Department in 1845.

In the beginning of the book, Hayes states, “There are fundamentally two ways you can experience the police in America: as the people you call when there’s a problem, the nice man in uniform who pats a toddler’s head and has an easy smile for the old lady as she buys her coffee. For others, the police are the people who are called on them. They are the ominous knock on the door, the sudden flashlight in the face, the barked orders. Depending on who you are, the sight of an officer can produce either a warm sense of safety and contentment or a plummeting feeling of terror.” (Hayes, 2017, p. 1-2)

Policing has been around a long time, ever since the 19th century to be more specific. In that span of time between the 19th century and today, policing has gone through many changes, to lead us to the state of policing we are in today, which is now a complete 180 from how it used to be. Way back when the first settlers came to America, communities actually policed themselves. They believed that this was the most effective way to uphold the law, or whatever they called it back then. They had many ways to keep people in line such as public disapproval, shunning, and even public humiliation.

It is no secret that there is abuse towards law enforcement these days. People are not respecting authority like they should, and it will only get worse as time goes on if nothing is done about it. “The research on police body

There has been many controversial issues about the “stop-and-frisk” law. One side believes that it is racially profiling the communities of minorities and the other side believes that it is helping communities rise away from violence. There is a lot of history and background on stop-and-frisk and how it originated in the United States, especially in different places around the world. This law has been very controversial even within the law itself, so controversial states are debating on getting rid of it completely. Many politicians speak on this tactic in both positive and negative ways and the statistical growths and decreases on this topic.

The development of policing in the United States followed the policing model in England and developed over decades. It was not until the 1880s that the United States established municipal police forces that were present in all major U.S. cities. These municipal police forces were similar in that they had public support, officers were employed and not volunteers, the departments had established protocols and rules, and the departments were accountable to the government (Lundman 1980). Policing is said to have gone through various stages the last few decades. Hooper (2014) points out that policing in the United States has evolved through three eras: The Political Era that had close ties to politics, the Reform Era that was developed because of the deficiencies of the Political Era and then the Community Era, that focused on Community Policing.

Officers abuse their power and most of the time get away with it which is not right, they are figures that the public trust to enforce the laws and keep them

Law enforcement is ensuring an act of obedience to the law. Police officers often take advantage of enforcing the law and end up using violence when it 's not necessary. According to the Washington post ( 2015 ) every 28 hours an unarmed colored person is killed by a police officer. I think it is time for these and other victims who were treated unjustly by police officers to get justice. These deadly law enforcement incidents must come to an end.

Officers have to respond to extremely dangerous situations with very little assistance. In the smaller police departments where there is only two to 3 officers , it can be very difficult to maintain 24/7 coverage and the reality might be that from time to time the area in question might not have any police coverage. Medium sized departments with between 10 to 50 officers tend to fair much better than those with 2 to 3 officers. The departments with 50 plus officers of course tend to provide better coverage but might suffer from poor organizational skills.

These officers should encourage the community to be more involved in the prevention of crime. This will also help all communities, not just the big cities, feel more confident and comfortable in the system that serves them. There is currently so much tension between the police and the

He was complying with the police officers orders and was begging for his life, screaming “please don’t shoot,” before he was fatally shot 5 times. Unfortunately, this is just one example of police brutality, an instance when police use unnecessary force when either they are unarmed or are complying with orders. Today I want to tell you of the injustice of police brutality, the people it affects, and how just asking the right questions could make sure that police are punished for their crimes.

Police training starts in the academy. Officer safety is very heavily to the point that it almost becomes a religion for Rookie officers. Rookie officers are usually taught what is known to them as the “first rule of law enforcement”: All officer’s most important goal at the end of every day is to go home at the end of their work shift. The sad fact about this is that cops live in a very hostile world. They are taught early on that every encounter, and every individual is likely to become threat for them.

From a time immorial the police have been a very intrigal part of the our social life. Be it the gupta period or the shivajian era, or the dark times of the east india company. Police has been omni present in the social order. One can not overlook the importance of police in the peaceful wellbeing of the state. But with the change in the attitude of the state towords its citizens the roll of police has also changed.
