The nature of cheating originates from the common misconception of helping others and a student’s lack of self-confidence. Plagiarism, not so different from cheating, disperses from the broad range of information on today’s technology. Through an authentic study, it has been revealed that teachers have established many students who have cheated their way through complexed assignments. Even misleading students who have kept a high grade point average has been found as participants of academic dishonesty. Today, professors seek to find different measures that should be taken to decrease cheating and plagiarism. But, some of these particular professors treat this situation very poorly. Though, it may seem right to fail these students in participation and even the upcoming test that they are probably bound to not comprehend, stopping the student from their trance and talking to them one-on-one is more beneficial to them. Not only that, but if one is caught cheating, a suspension or detention is placed. While in college, if you are caught cheating you can be kicked out university. I remember a time when I was a teacher’s assistant for a period during high school. I was working on reorganizing ribbon for the class, and I turned around to see students clicking on and off their screen to google and texting behind their computers for the answers. Being in high school, you’re bound to hear about or see someone commit an act of plagiarism at least once. In my case, I’ve seen it happen plenty of times. Some of those times, the teacher didn’t require any online plagiarism checker to make sure the student’s work was plagiarized either. All that the teacher would have to do is pick a few sentences, or high level vocabulary words, and ask the student, “what does this mean?” ; given no response, the answer was clear.

As the means to cheating have been much more accessible in the recent generation, there have been many debates over whether an honor code should be implemented to enforce academic honesty. Although some may argue that even with an honor code in place there would be no one to enforce the rules, it has been proven that the placement of an honor code has indeed lowered the amount of cheating and plagiarism in classrooms.
