Assalamualaikum and a very good morning I bid to my lecturer, Madam Rosyati, and my fellow classmates. My name is Aina Izzati Binti Mohd Khair, S37085 and I am from K1. Nowadays, the earth is facing global challenges such as climate change and pollution which occurs due to human activities. As some of us know, plastic bag is one of the contributors for waste pollution. This is why I strongly believe that the usage of reusable bags should be enforced in our country, Malaysia as the use of plastic bags will encourage the increase of the number solid waste produce. There will be two things I am focusing today, which is the advantage of reusable bags and the disadvantage of plastic bags. When I am finished, I will be happy to answer any question. I will start with one of the advantages of reusable bag which is it is environmental friendly. Reusable bags are made with strong and durable materials so that it does not get torn easily while plastic bag is made of petroleum oil and other chemical that are dangerous for the environment either during the process …show more content…
It is user-friendly as it is designed for multiple uses such as for shopping, going to class or went for a walk. This is because reusable bag have cute and stylish design and is more fashionable than plastic bags. It is also larger and can hold more items than conventional plastic bags. Besides, using reusable bags, either seller or customer can save costs on their spending. The ‘No Plastic Bag’ campaign has been launched in certain countries and Selangor started on Saturday at first but then later extend it to every day. For instance, a seller can save costs by reducing the amount of plastic bag bought for the use in their shop. A customer can save cost by using a reusable bag, consider for each plastic bag use at a store, they need to pay 20 cents each. So, reusable bag is user-friendly and it can help to save
He says “since banning plastic bags also means preventing their additional uses as trash bags and pooper scoopers, one unintended consequence of the plastic bag ban would likely be an increase in plastic bag purchases for these other purposes.” This claim makes the ban seem unnecessary. Along with the previous facts stating the negative effects on consumers, Summers convinces the reader to accept his claim. To emphasize the uselessness of the bill, Summers says “This is just what happened in Ireland in 2002... a tax imposed on shopping bags led to a 77% increase in the sale of plastic trash can liner bags.”
Arguing over the use of plastic bags has stirred large debates over their effects on the ecosystem. In Adam B. Summer’s article, he argues that plastic bags do not present vast amounts environmental issues as some people believe. Thus, he provides his argument over the debate of plastic bags throughout his article. Summer utilizes the ethos, logos, and the pathos appeal in numerous aspects of his argument. Because of his creative usage of these appeals, Summer presents his readers with an extremely well-written argument.
The article “Breaking The Plastic Bag habit“, written by Alexander H. Tullo and published in 2015, informs the reader about the invention of reusable bags as an alternative to wasteful plastic bags. The article was most likely published in a quality paper, since it is mainly expository. However, the author uses some rhetorical devices to influence the readers’ opinion. Tolla makes use of adjectives to highlight what he is talking about.
In the passage from “Bag Ban Bad for Freedom and Environment”, the author, Adam B. Summers, makes an interesting case on why plastic bags should not be banned. Throughout the passage, Summers uses many examples and comparisons to describe how our world is not necessarily being harmed from plastic bags and that there are other uses for paper bags that would not be fulfilled if the bags were to be banned. He uses evidence, reasoning, and persuasive language and word choice to build his argument and persuade his audience that plastic bags should not be banned. In order to make his argument valid, Summers uses evidence and comparisons to support his claims.
In the article, he says, “Reusable bags come with their own set of problems. They, too, have a larger carbon footprint than plastic bags.” In this statement, which is again before he uses facts to support it, he explains the use of the statistics that are going to be given. The line set the main idea for the paragraph, which he then develops using facts and other concepts relating to this topic. It contributes to his main idea by using a comparison between a different possible option that a person would use over plastic bags, and the contrast between the two is highlighted.
The opinion piece, "Ban the bag before it's too late", published by The Daily Chronicle on 27 May 2008, contends to the Federal Government as well as the citizens of Australia to inform them that they need to ban plastic bags in Australia. Plastic bags contributes to environmental problems, the potential threats to wildlife and the fact that other nations have already been making progress to ban plastic bags shows that Australia has to make a change as well. The author sets their article in an authoritative tone towards all citizens of Australia to emphasise the negative effects of plastic bags. Furthermore, the image provided represented the plastic bags being disposed of and being dumped in the environment which is another example that contributes
One of the problems with today's toxic products is how to get rid of it properly without harming the environment. Years ago and even these days it wastes is dumped into streams, rivers and oceans or buried underground. Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Situation Analysis In today’s world, there is enough plastic thrown away each year to circle the world around four times. This is a major global problem that all countries have. Plastic is something we use for a few minutes and throw away. What most people don’t know is these simple plastics actually take centuries to degrade.
The article Bag Ban Bad for Freedom and Environment, by Adam B. Summers, argues that a ban placed on plastic grocery bags would be detrimental to the environment as well as to people. Summers builds his argument with the use of pathos, ethos, and statistics throughout the article. Summers uses pathos in the article to strengthen his argument. He is able to use two examples of the negative impacts of the possible ban on plastic bags.
Imagine living in a world where the air is polluted and most people are afraid to step outside their front door, in the near future, this may be reality for Americans. Americans throw out over 200 million tons of garbage a year, yet recycle not nearly as much. Most people do not realize it but recycling is a vital part of America’s society and if Americans do not perform this action, it will backfire on them. People in America are debating whether Americans are recycling enough and correctly. After analyzing the data, one will definitely agree that Americans need to be more educated on recycling due to the fact that most people do not know what happens after they recycle an item, nearly all Americans are recycling incorrectly, and Am To begin,
Adam B. Summers builds an argument to persuade his audience be first mentioning the increase of health problems, that people use plastic bags more than one way, and a huge loss of jobs. He mentions that several studies have found that plastic bag bans lead to increased health problems, due to food contamination from bacteria that remains in the reusable bags. He also mentions that there was a subsequent spike in hospital emergency room visits due to E. Coli, salmonella, and campylobacter-related intestinal infectious diseases. To really make the reader think deeply into it, he says many deaths have been caused as a result of this.
The use of plastic bags has been debated for years. Some people prefer to use them, and others would rather use substitutes, and most have their personal reasons why they lean one way or the other in the argument. In this article, the author addresses why he believes plastic bags should not be banned. The author, Adam B. Summers, uses various literary tools and appeals throughout his article, "Bag Ban Bad for Freedom and Environment," to support his argument that banning plastic bags would do more harm than good. Logical appeal is the most frequently used literary device in the passage.
now producing alternative durable or reusable shopping bags from recycled material. Consumers are now driven to reuse shopping plastic bags and or buy the durable reusable shopping bags. The objective the Plastic bag levy was to serve to generate funding for the creation of a recycling company, which would collect and recycle the plastic carrier bags. This recycle entity is now in operation including other private owned plastic recycling companies who took up the opportunity and thus, employment has been created, as they are now companies taking up the opportunity to recycle all, the shopping plastics or producing alternative and cost effective plastic bags form non-synthetic fibers. Knowler (2008) reports that, following the levying of a charge
should not ban the plastic bag. One reason why is, some people say that reusable bags have larger carbon footprints, due to greater energy needed to produce them (2). Yet, they may use more energy but they are safer to the environment by them not being plastic and not harmful to animals. On the other hand, people say it will cost tens of million dollars to ban the plastic bags (4).
The thin plastic films such as trash bags or even shopping bags are the common application of this biodegradable polymer. Finally, there are many advantages the usage of biodegradable polymer to particular application depend on the properties of the biodegradable polymer that fits that
