Matt Roer 5/18/15 Did Julius Caesar rule through power or authority during his political reign? During Caesar’s political reign, he ruled through authority because he was able to deliver the needs of the majority populares group while satisfying the optimates by building public works projects, creating reforms that benefitted foreigners and the populares, and conquering the land of other regions. Caesar convinced others that it was in their best interest to be ruled because he provided Romans and outsiders with opportunities to be financially successful. When Caesar first got into power, he decided to stack his supporters by doling out citizenship to people from regions where he used to live such as the Alps (B).

Most importantly Julius Caesar was remembered for his righteous ruling in government that helped many. Document A really shows how Caesar put civilian lives and needs first. He doesn't care about governing the richer, well-known city of Rome he cared about helping the struggling village. By wanting to be the first man in that underprivileged rather than well-off Rome it shows how he really wants to help the poor than get famous for helping the rich. Many people found his performance in government to be important and truly valuable.

Julius Caesar has been represented in history as a multi-faceted Roman leader, excelling in the military, social and political spheres of Roman life.

Julius Caesar was a political and military leader whose reign marked the beginning of the Roman Empire and the end of the Roman Republic. Caesar did not always follow the law to get the power that he obtained. Caesar once stated, “If you must break the law, do it to seize power; in all other cases, observe it.” If Caesar saw a way to get power, he took the opportunity even if it meant breaching the law.

However, like Caesar, Antony is extremely manipulative and powerful. After Caesar’s death, Antony manipulated the conspirators into believing he was on their side before requesting to speak at Caesar’s funeral. While Brutus and the conspirators remained fooled by Antony’s innocence, Antony took the initiative to inform the Roman citizens of the conspirator’s horrendous actions towards their beloved leader, Julius Caesar. Caesar’s funeral was a time of reflection for the citizens of Rome, as Marc Antony caused them to question their allegiance to Brutus.

In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, this quote is entirely true. We are also introduced into the idea of manipulation very early in the play, which impacts the plot. The play is about Marcus Brutus, the tragic hero, being manipulated into being in a conspiracy to assassinate Gaius Julius Caesar, a politician for Rome.

Leadership is a key part in Julius Caesar because without it, many of the significant events in the play would not have occurred. Caesar, Brutus, Cassius, and Antony all play the role of a leader in the middle of all the confusion in Rome, however, some characters are careless and would not be good leaders. It is often seen that great leaders have great qualities that allow them to lead well, but also are able to fight through obstacles, while there are some leaders who lack those qualities and lead poorly. A poor leader would be Caesar because he is hungry for more power and only thinks of himself and not of others.

Fate versus free will – this is one of the many philosophies that William Shakespeare examines in Julius Caesar. There are two interesting forces, fate and free will throughout the play that are fighting for control over men. Fate was shown in the many prophecies and omens that characters viewed throughout Act II. Free will was the characters ability to overcome their fate. Shakespeare shows a delicate balance between the two forces.
