Now animals are tested to see if the chemicals in cosmetics will burn humans or to find cures for diseases. Many of the tests that are performed on animals that are proved effective on animals do not work on humans. Unfortunately, many people do not know this and continue to support animal testing. Many of the methods that are used are cruel to the animal and makes them suffer. Although animal testing has helped scientists to find cures, it comes at a heavy price.

Animal testing has been getting worse and worse by the minute; 100 million animals die each year from the painful, death-threatening experiences. Animal testing has been around since 322 BC. Some people believe no living creature should ever be treated like that and be put in treacherous experiences that they have no say in to stop them. Others think it is a great, more realistic way for testing products we use on an everyday basis. People all over the world say it's the closest thing were ever going to get to an actual human being.

The practice of using animals for biomedical research is severely being criticized from Animal protection and animals rights group. For example, drug fiascos have occurred, such as the diethylene glycol (DEG) use in 1937. This substance was poisonous for humans, but was still used in flavors of taste. And this ended up with more than one hundred people in death. After this incident, a law was passed that the drugs were only to be used on animals first to be marketed!

My own view is that animals should not be used for medical testing because some medicine can work with animals, but we do not know how well the medicine will work on humans. Animal testing has killed millions of animals throughout time, due to the fact that they have been used for testing. It is true that animal testing has been successful on some occasions and that it has helped to improve medical treatments, but also it has been the cause of serious problems. Just because something worked on animals does not mean that it would work on humans as well. With most things, there are some pros and cons. In Animal testing, the pros are pretty self explanatory. They assist a better understanding of the topic they are researching and can relate it to our lives as human beings. Animals have a fully functioning body that in many cases, work similar to ours, it makes sense to not test on a piece of wood for instance. Animal testing has given us the ability to make advance realizations in the medical industry.

There are tons of ways that animal testing has benefited us in the past, and it continues to help us. Animal testing has saved the lives of thousands of people, but some people think that is unacceptable and want it to be stopped. If it is working, why stop it?
