Although the idea of testing with animals may sound horrible, animal testing is extremely necessary to keep developing new medicines, and treatments. The benefits of animal testing outweigh the cons of hurting animals for our own wellbeing. These benefits include, many long found treatments and cures that has helped many people throughout the years. Animal testing is also the only way that scientists can properly test on. And lastly, whether many people believe it or not it also benefits animals as well. Subsequently, according to Ian Murnaghan some pros to animal testing is that “It helps researches to find drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine” (Para. 1, key point 1) Today’s treatments would have never been in existence if …show more content…
The closest body structure we have to the human body is an animal, so it is logical to keep testing on animals, considering the fact that scientists have been doing so for years. If animal testing was to be banned then all scientists can really use is human cells, but over the years it hasn’t been proven to help find cures as much as animals already do. Human cells can be useful but don’t allow scientists to get a test on the central nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system, those being the humans most important parts of the body, where in animals they can. In fact, there are a variety of animals that are considered to be like humans. Such as, elephants, chimps, monkeys, dolphins and even octopuses. The closest thing that scientists have to a circulatory system are animals, unless humans are willing to sacrifice their life for a simple scientific cause. Another way to test on besides animal testing is through computer models but according to the California Biomedical Research Association “Computer models can only be reliable if accurate information gleaned from animal research is used to build the models in the first place”. In other words they still need to test on animals (not much, but very little) to create the model they need to test on. Furthermore, the California Biomedical Research Association also stated that “Even the most powerful, …show more content…
In this circumstance many animal lovers are always worried about animals that are being killed due to animal testing. Yes, there are other alternatives such as using a human’s cell, computer models, etc. instead of killing animals. Also, animal testing is not always reliable and can’t predict how a human will react once being used on. But animal testing helps out everyone, whether people like it or not. Without animal testing people wouldn’t be surviving out in the streets for too long with so many diseases around the corner. Scientists need to test on something and animals are the key to everyone’s
Now animals are tested to see if the chemicals in cosmetics will burn humans or to find cures for diseases. Many of the tests that are performed on animals that are proved effective on animals do not work on humans. Unfortunately, many people do not know this and continue to support animal testing. Many of the methods that are used are cruel to the animal and makes them suffer. Although animal testing has helped scientists to find cures, it comes at a heavy price.
Animal testing has been getting worse and worse by the minute; 100 million animals die each year from the painful, death-threatening experiences. Animal testing has been around since 322 BC. Some people believe no living creature should ever be treated like that and be put in treacherous experiences that they have no say in to stop them. Others think it is a great, more realistic way for testing products we use on an everyday basis. People all over the world say it's the closest thing were ever going to get to an actual human being.
The practice of using animals for biomedical research is severely being criticized from Animal protection and animals rights group. For example, drug fiascos have occurred, such as the diethylene glycol (DEG) use in 1937. This substance was poisonous for humans, but was still used in flavors of taste. And this ended up with more than one hundred people in death. After this incident, a law was passed that the drugs were only to be used on animals first to be marketed!
My own view is that animals should not be used for medical testing because some medicine can work with animals, but we do not know how well the medicine will work on humans. Animal testing has killed millions of animals throughout time, due to the fact that they have been used for testing. It is true that animal testing has been successful on some occasions and that it has helped to improve medical treatments, but also it has been the cause of serious problems. Just because something worked on animals does not mean that it would work on humans as well. For example, the article “Animal Testing” states that “the 1950s sleeping pill thalidomide, cause thousands of babies to be born with several deformities”(Animal Testing).
With most things, there are some pros and cons. In Animal testing, the pros are pretty self explanatory. They assist a better understanding of the topic they are researching and can relate it to our lives as human beings. Animals have a fully functioning body that in many cases, work similar to ours, it makes sense to not test on a piece of wood for instance. Animal testing has given us the ability to make advance realizations in the medical industry.
There are tons of ways that animal testing has benefited us in the past, and it continues to help us. Animal testing has saved the lives of thousands of people, but some people think that is unacceptable and want it to be stopped. If it is working, why stop it? First, animal testing has helped us for a long time.
Animal testing causes a lot of problems despite it existing for a good reason. Animal testing, which has been around for years, has had an impact on the relationships between humans and animals. Animal testing has proven to be ineffective, inhumane, and causes unnecessary trauma and damage. Animal testing has proved to be ineffective at times along with being inhumane. In the article “Animal Experimentation” when it talks about how experimentation is ineffective it says “Animals that are used most often in experimentation have vastly different anatomy, metabolism, genetics, disease expression, and other biological systems than humans” (Longe).
The animals that are subjected to testing do not have a voice in whether or not they can be tested on, and therefore cannot make their own decision. Most animals that are used in testing have never even seen the outside world because
Animal testing is bad because they are being hurt by all those chemicals they use on them. Some people don 't think that animals have feelings but they do, they have feelings just like us. So imagine if it was you who was being tested on and you were in
Michele McKay explains that during animal testing ¨animals endure chemicals being dripped into their eyes, injected into their bodies, forced up their nostrils or forced down their throats.¨ It stands reason that many animals are hurt and kept on getting hurt until they die. Therefore scientist do not stop using the animal until they are useless, which is just cruel and inhumane. In the article titled The Cruelty of Lab Animal Testing it states that ¨there are more than 115 million dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, and other mammals that suffer and die each year¨. It proves that animal testing does kill more than hundreds of animals, and those animals should be out in the wild with their family.
Every year, estimated 26 million animals are used in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. Is animal testing justified? Would our lives be the same without the use of animals in experimentation? It would not be the same. Without animal testing, we would not know if products we use are safe or dangerous to our bodies.
For a time, animal testing was a groundbreaking tool into understanding complex diseases and how to combat them. Testing animals back then was still incredibly vile, but it was at least justified to a certain degree. Today, in 2016, animal testing is practically obsolete, yet tests are
Animal experimentation has been a very controversial debate for many years. About 100 million animals are killed in laboratories for drug and cosmetic testing. They are used for medical testing and for dissecting in biology lessons. I think animal testing is something that isn’t necessary at all. Animals are not treated well and are often abused by their handlers.
Most people believe that animal testing is okay, but it is not. It is true that animal testing has led us to incredible medical breakthroughs, such as the discovery of Anesthetics, blood transfusion, insulin, etc; however, there are alternate methods to achieve the same results. There are many reasons on why animal testing does not benefit humanity. Animals die for no good reason, animal drugs produced by humans to aid humans do not work, animal experiments are expensive, and can delay vaccines. Animal testing provides people nothing and that researcher should ultimately stop experimenting on animals.
After reading so many stories about the negative side of animal testing, then is there any positive affect about animal testing? The answer is yes, according to the article “Animal research is a source of human compassion, not shame” posted by Lancent. It points out the idea of the use of animals in medical research has save many people’s life. Without animal testing, there will be much less medical improvement than what we have right now, and there will be no new drugs for new or hard-to-treat diseases (815.
