Pro Athletes Should Get Paid Essay

Argumentative Paper Athletes are overpaid Have you ever heard about a grown man complaining about how he could not afford his insurance for his 8 cars? Almost all athletes get paid enormous paychecks and are financially unprepared. Athletes are overpaid because they can go bankrupt and some of the athletes become too confident with their money. Most athletes go bankrupt in a short amount of time. While it might be true that these multi-millionaire athletes have endless amounts of money.

College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.

Have you ever wondered why National Football League players, known as NFL players, make so much money? I think NFL players should continue to earn such high salaries for the reasons that follow; they entertain millions, risk getting life altering injuries, and create loads of revenue. To put the second reason into perspective, getting tackled by a 300 pound defensive lineman is comparable to getting in a car accident at 30 miles per hour without a seat belt on (Wisconsin Trooper Association). That can happen to just one player upwards of 20 times a game. National Football League players, known as NFL players; deserve as much money as they get because of how they entertain people.

After graduating from High School one may choose to further his or her education through college. People do this for many reasons. Some people do it for professional benefits, while others do it for sports athletics. This paper will be focusing on those who do go to college for athletic benefits. Specifically, this is focusing on how these college athletes do not get paid and why they should be paid.

Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.

Athletes - Paid for Their Worth Most people think that athletes are overpaid and see huge contracts come out every year. It’s not everyday that an athlete wakes up to a 20 million dollar contract. In fact, they actually worked for it over many years of training and dedication. Pro athletes are paid exactly what they deserve because they work hard and sacrifice more than most people think. It's not just businesses paying them; people do things like buy merchandise, tickets to the games and support their favorite teams while the athlete does the “dirty” work of performing.

Professional athletes are extremely overpaid for the “jobs” that they do. They only entertain for a living and get paid millions of dollars per season. Each sport is different in how they pay their athletes, and the difference in salaries from one player to another can be in the tens of millions of dollars. These athletes are paid for jobs that they only do for a certain number of games and do not even play the games over the course of an entire year. In most professional sports, they play in games for only a few months and then have a few months off.

Professional athletes provide entertainment for citizens all across the world and get paid for playing a sport that they truly love. They have to keep their bodies in peak condition at all times to ensure that they will be able to compete at a high level, day in and day out. To become a Professional athlete you have to dedicate your whole life to playing the sport, because you will be traveling the world to compete with other players just as talented as yourself. There is a big debate going on about whether or not professional athletes are overpaid, some people feel they are overpaid and other people feel that they receive the right amount of money for playing a sport professionally.

Are Athletes paid too much, or do they get what they deserve? Some people believe that athletes are paid way too much and the money they make could be spent on things that could benefit the greater good like finding cures and helping kids in 3rd world countries. Now some people also think that they are paid what they deserve. They think that the athletes are a good role model and they work and train hard to get in that position. Becoming a professional athlete takes time and dedication to the sport so they do deserve some credit but 300 million is a little too much.
