Rainsford-Personal Narrative

General Zaroff challenged Rainsford by saying, “I’ll cheerfully acknowledge myself defeated if I do not find you by the third day.” So, Rainsford accepted the challenge, and on the third day, he fooled the General by swimming back to the house and hiding behind the bed curtain. He wiped off the slick sweat on the back of his neck, knowing it was his time to shine. Centennial Olympic Park surrounded him. The Bank of America Plaza towered to the East. He rubbed the back of his blood stained feet, shook off the blister pain, shoved his polished trainers on his feet, picked up his stick, and started for the other side of the field. He was in the big leagues now.

Climax Zaroff wants to hunt down his guest like a “beast”. Now rainsford finds himself being the pray. Rainsford don't like that feeling. Now it's life or death for rainsford.

Rainsford was a hunter but he became a hunted. Rainsford is faced with the challenge in the middle of the story. Also, the importance of empathy is shown through the changes that occur in Rainsford in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Moreover, it seems that Zaroff considers himself a god who can snuff out life as he pleases.

Rainsford is then given two options. One option is to play a game of cat and mouse with Zaroff. The General would hunt Rainsford for 3 days. If Rainsford was found, he would be killed. If Rainsford won, he would be taken to the mainland on a ship.

You see, I read all books on hunting published in english, French, and Russian. I have passion in my life Mr. Rainsford, and it is to hunt.” (Connell 221-222) Then the reason why rainsford stayed was because he probably wanted to hear what he said about his book or just because he read it which was not smart that rainsford was not thinking and he didn 't know anything about him or what he does besides hunt he probably thinks that General Zaroff is a very good and handsome man. Think that Zaroff is a very intelligent man and is controlling because that 's all he does is drags them in and then takes them out, which means that he is going to kill them and not tell anyone of his family or else.

During the night of December 24th, 1982 in North Carolina, Jack Wilson, a 16-year old boy, went to the International Gaming Tournament, where he won first place. He felt so proud. He wanted to call his parents who were gone to Hawaii for three weeks to share his happiness. When he arrived at his house he made some hot chocolate and gathered by the cozy fire, looking at his only Christmas present. Though it was small, it was special as it was from his parents.

In the short story The Most Dangerous Game, the author Richard Connell shows that Rainsford needs control of his emotions, patience , and expert hunting and decision making skills in order to defeat Zaroff. Rainsford needs to gain control of his emotions to outthink Zaroff, who symbolizes Rainsfords "steep hill". When he finds that he is going to be hunted his natural instinct is to run and panic, but then he stops to look around and get a grip on the task at hand. Then at a critical moment when Zaroff finds him in a tree, Rainsford panics again because he realizes Zaroff is on his trail and is toying with him. Once again, he gains control of his emotions and formulates a plan.

He had to fight himself to stay on track. He was so scared in the jungle while the General was trying to hunt him. On page 186, it says “He could not say where he was. That was suicide.” This shows the reader that Rainsford may be thinking of what could go wrong, and is not thinking on the positive side of things.

However, he is now ready to fight to the death, which shows that his opinion has changed. That just makes him no better than Zaroff “the murderer”. It seems as if Zaroff has passed on his role to Rainsford and he is now the new Zaroff. How else can he sleep so well if he feels remorse over killing a fellow human? Zaroff told him he could leave the island if he won but he stays.

Rainsford has no way to live unless he kills General Zaroff because Zaroff would most likely continue to force Rainsford to

Not only was rainsford in a conflict with General Zaroff he is in conflict with himself as he is finding his way to Ship Trap Island. “‘I must keep my nerve, I must keep my nerve,’ he said through tight teeth” (12). Rainsford also had a conflict with himself on the island when he was deciding what to do to get away from Zaroff. Rainsford was able to overcome the internal conflict when the dogs were chasing him and he needed to make the decision to jump into the water, fight the dogs, or climb a tree and hide. Man versus himself is very important to Connell’s story.

Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character Rainsford is being hunted which creates fear in him. He is scared of dying but overcame his fear by facing the danger of the hunting game.

Even after risking his life in the sea, Rainsfords hatred toward Zaroff allows him to continue his actions. Additionally, Rainsford wanted to seek revenge on Zaroff for his cruelty towards humans. Rainsfords determination to survive, granted him as a successful hunter who understood the meaning of

“The Way to Rainy Mountain” is organized very well, it includes three narrative voices. Throughout this novel the first narrative voice is about the Kiowa legends. Then Momaday has a paragraph of contexts that relates to the legend. The author gives the reader a bit of his life by relating a family experience he had. Because some of the Kiowa legends and history go with Momadays own family history, then this three voice narration allows the author to have great detail about the Kiowa’s way of life in every way.
