Argument against Minimum Wage Claim:  Raising the minimum wage could lead to bigger problems. Support:  The US would lose 500,000 jobs (Congressional Budget Office report, Economist and public policy experts )  Increased consumer prices, driven by companies offsetting increased labor cost (Econo-mist and public policy experts).  A possibility higher minimum wage would attract more experience workers that would stay in a low paying wage longer, which makes young people and other people with lim-ited work experience not land entry-level jobs (Economist and public policy experts).

On the bright side, there is greater purchasing power for workers with the revenue going back to businesses they patronize and products or services they avail of or purchase. They may be able to afford more in terms of living expenses and other expenditures

Increasing minimum wage also has its disadvantages that can seriously affect workers. In several instances, employment has decreased more than the increase in wages and thereby overall earnings are still reduced or remained unchanged. The debate about raising the minimum wage has both pros and cons, generally speaking, one has to outweigh the other. However, with the idea of raising the minimum wage, many people, especially the poor, will gain substantial benefits from that policy, including the ability to improve their living standard,reduce the gap between the poor and the rich, reinforce the equity in the country and improving productivity and economic growth.

For my survey project, I chose to talk about whether or not it is a good idea to raise the minimum wage. My goal for my research is to prove that it is a bad idea to raise it. While it is convenient for minimum waged workers to get paid more, it would not be for the rest of us. It would result in everything becoming more expensive. My main focus is on keeping the minimum wage at its current value, nine dollars.

In today's society many people work at a minimum wage job with getting paid $9.00 dollars an hour. Every year it seems to increase by $1.00 dollar by 2016 the minimum wage and what the workers will be getting paid will be $10.00 dollars. Which is getting close to someone who sits in an office all day and works for a big corporations or big business. Coming from someone who is a teenager and in high school working at minimum wage is not entirely bad but when they take out taxes and being underage is very unacceptable. People are satisfied working at a “minimum wage” that has no actual purpose. Nobody can actually live off of this wage, and anyone who earns minimum wage needs government assistance anyways. This creates “Working Poor: A term used to describe workers who are employed but still unable to afford the cost of living” (Aliprandini). Many people, form state legislators to various interest groups, in the United States are advocating increasing the minimum wage. There are several reasons for this, including the thought of it boosting the economy out of recession. Some other reasons are that it will improve the standard of living, boost consumer buying power, and provide a more stable and productive workforce. Raising minimum wage for those in poverty would be the wrong approach to this conflict. Around half of workers that earn minimum wage are under the age of 25, so with nearly all cases of minimum wage earners, they are not the primary source of income, they are not supporting themselves or families completely.
