President Lincoln early in the war realized that if the Union was to win the war against the Confederacy, that steps would need to be taken to return the seceded states back into the Union and stabilize the United States as one front to the rest of the world. President Lincoln also understood that part of the reason for secession of southern states was due to Federal Government infringing on state’s rights and to mitigate this issue he believed that a more moderate approach was needed for a quick a successful reconstruction to occur. He proposed the idea of the South rejoining the Union, but that sadly failed when the drew close, right before it ended, he had no clue what to do. He then came up with a plan that gave some blacks, even if they were free or enlisted in the military, should deserve the right to vote. As a part of his reconstruction he created the Proclamation of Amnesty. The Proclamation of Amnesty helped set the ideas of Lincoln’s plan. The Proclamation of Amnesty allowed for a full pardon with the exception of high Confederate officials and military leaders.

In fact, Paul Boller stated, “The burdens he bore during the Civil War were far heavier than those of most American Presidents… Lincoln had to proceed cautiously to avoid alienating the border slave states and offending public opinion.” With this in mind, Lincoln generally one main goal within the beginning Civil War, which was to preserve the union. However, later on, he went on to change his mind on abolishing slavery.

First is the presidential reconstruction. During the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln as the President of the United States of America has been constructing a draft called the Ten Percent Plan. This plan focus on reconciliation, not on a punishment for the Confederates. By drafting this plan, Lincoln has a purpose. His purpose is to make the Confederates surrender to the Union easier.

Reconstruction began when President Abraham Linclon issued Emancipation Proclamation December 1863. President Abraham's plan to weaken the confederacy by taking oath of loyalty from at 10 % prewar voters to establish new state governments couldn't yield expected results but certainly had put heavy dents on the confederates. Reconstruction may be considered the result of terrible war between those who wanted to see all the states united under union flag and those who wanted loose confederation. The civil war lasted four years.

In 1865 The Civil War, a war which lasted four years, completely destroyed the South, and freed about 4 million slaves had finally ended. The period of Reconstruction was when the South rebuilt what had been destroyed and the South and North joined back together. The Nation also had to solve many problems including how the recently freed slaves would fit into society. Reconstruction was a failure for the Freedmen because Freedmen got to peruse their rights and not live in fear for minimal time, until President Grant did not run again for president and Rutherford Hayes became president leading to the former groups who terrorized the Freedmen to reorganize. President Lincoln sought to let the South return to the union and tried to influence them to pay for it. However, the radical republicans felt the need to absolutely make the South pay for leaving in any case and causing the union every one of their issues. Reconstruction was a shady period in the government's endeavors to make society a true democratic system;

As the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln made very important decisions. One decision he had to make was on slavery. Lincoln felt that there was not much that he could do to stop slavery from occurring. In the South the economy was based off of slavery, in the North it was based on machines and industry. If he took away the South’s economy then that would be unfair. .

Lincoln had a lot of work to be done to make America whole once again. They needed to build everything from farms to businesses and the slaves that were freed needed jobs and education. The United States needed to be rebuilt. And that’s what Lincoln did, he rebuilt the damage that was done.

The goal of Reconstruction from the end of the Confederacy to 1877 rested on the physical, economic, and political transformation of the South. However, Reconstruction was complicated by the legacies from both the South and North of the Civil War. During Reconstruction, a lack of political focus failed to solve the sectional differences, and the elimination of the freed slaves' newly gained rights with the Black Codes allowed for the same Southern leadership to come back into power.

The rebuilding of the south after the civil war was called the reconstruction. It lasted for 12 years. During that time, southern economic has dropped drastically and slaves in the south had to wandered in the streets. The purpose of reconstruction was to get the states who seceded back to the union, rebuild south and also ensure black rights and protection. Even though most people were unhappy with the south and wanted them punished, others wanted to rebuild.

Finally, he came to a conclusion, and Lincoln, in his last speech in 1865, proclaimed that African-Americans in the United States, and its claimed Confederate territory, deserved the right to vote. This plan was put into place to support Lincoln’s Ten Percent plan which relied heavily on the support of Southern political supporters. This speech sparked anger in the hearts of loyal Southerners, so much so that only three days later, Lincoln was assassinated due to his remarks in his speech. Now, with Lincoln’s ideals stapled into the minds of the nation, the job was left to President Johnson to pull the nation through the pains of reconstruction. Johnson fulfilled Lincoln’s goals of forgiveness by pardoning every Confederate soldier, except the highest ranking leaders of the rebellion, and pardoning wealthy plantation owners.
