During the Socratic Seminar, I actively listened to the claims being said and gave my input when I felt I had enough evidence to support an argument that I felt should be put out there. I also had my study guides, the two journals, “Dover Beach” poem and TP-CASTT, Fahrenheit 451 book, “Where Is Our Dover Beach?” article, and a paper with quotes and facts I gathered that related to the two topics. I used these resources throughout the seminar as references and evidence. An example of this was when I gave my claim that fitting into society can seem like a form of happiness but is not. To support this claim, I used the quote from Fahrenheit 451: “‘You took all the pills in your bottle last night.’

In the first two days of Honors English II, you taught me a lot about writing that impacted the way I wrote on the second day writing assignment, from the first day writing assignment. The first writing assignment was less of what is expected for an Honors English class due to lack of originality, organization, and a good MLA format. I started taking honors type classes in third grade, when my elementary school had an optional class for gifted students to assist in developing our problem solving and literature skills. From fourth through seventh grade I was homeschooled. The curriculum I was using was more advanced and more involved personally than what I'd experienced in my regular elementary school classes. It wasn't simply a classroom where I was handed a packet of work and the teacher walked away. I was allowed to talk through my work and analyze my ideas deeper, instead of simply doing questions by rote, which helped greatly in learning more complicated subjects instead of only memorizing them.
