I am currently an employee of Wintersong Nursing Village in Knox, Indiana. My mother is a registered nurse and she also works in assisted care facilities all across my state. Since I was a little girl, my mother would always take me to work with her and teach me that the elderly deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Because of my passion for assisting and and talking to the elderly, I have decided to pursue a career in Speech Language Pathology and work permanently in a long term care facility. I know that aging matters because elderly people are wise, they're thankful and they're caring, and everyone ages. I remember being in preschool when my mother first took me to her work place. I thought it was stuffy and I was kind …show more content…
The thing that sets assisted care facilities apart from the rest is the appreciation you get from doing the smallest tasks. As I stated before, I am employed currently as a Hostess at Wintersong Nursing Village. I have experienced first hand how far doing a task so little can mean so much to a resident. For example, before dinner time it is my job to assist all the individuals in wheelchairs down to the dinning room. This seems like a very simple task that doesn't take much time or effort on my part but to them it means everything. Some of our residents are too weak or are incapable of rolling themselves anywhere. Every time I perform this task, the resident will usually touch my hand and genuinely thank me. I love to see their big smile on there face as I laugh and joke around with them. Some of the residents have become like family to me. They all seem to care about the staffers as well. I have been asked on many occasions if I was doing okay and if i needed anything because they are willing to help. I love my job and I feel so lucky to be given the opportunity to experience all of these things before entering as a speech therapist in about six years.Aging really matters to me because aging is a life process that will happen to all of us. I personally believe that all teenagers should be
Brionna Davis is a single mother who works as a certified nursing assistant here at Meadowbrook Health and Rehab. She’s been working at Meadowbrook for over a year now. It is located in Tucker, Georgia. This facility is the recipient of American Healthcare Associations 2014 Bronze Quality Award. Their motto is: “Lives Enriched; Wellness Served.”
The elderlies are people who have enough problems and things to worry about in their life’s and would not like to have more, putting up with us volunteers. The Valley Grande Manor is at 1212 South Bridge Avenue Weslaco, TX it is a place for elderly who have no family or anybody else to take care of them. I started to volunteer there for my class English 1302, as a project for my future, to gather data on how these nurses take care of them. When I first applied to volunteer they were so many elderly it remind me of many horror movies because it was wheelchairs, needles, and a big empty old cafeteria that was clean, but not remodeled. It was not comfortable until I talked to this man sitting alone before entering the main building of the nursing
.” Whether managing a nursing home, hospice, or assisted living center, administrators have lots of responsibilities. In addition to hiring and training a staff, they must make schedules, purchase inventory and manage both revenue and expenses. More importantly, the administrator must ensure the facility 's compliance with the rules and regulations of government and accrediting bodies” overall, I really enjoyed this opportunely to interview Alixis one of the professionals within a LTC organization at BrightStar home Care. This experience was actually was needed to me to know more about the Long-term care field.
The following,is an article written by Jerry Brindley when she was a Senior Aide in Decatur: Becoming a Senior Aide was a big step in my life as far as taking care of the elderly and seeing to their needs. I have had years of experience from my parents-in-law and our neighbors. But to actually go into a home and help someone I have never known was and is totally different.
At 14 years old I became a personal care attendant (PCA) for a man named Bernie. Bernie was diagnosed at birth with spinal muscular atrophy, a rare form of muscular dystrophy. He suffered a stroke almost 15 years ago that paralyzed him from the neck down, disabling him from ever leaving his bedroom. I started out feeding Bernie dinner and helping him take care of basic tasks such as cleaning the house and giving him medication. After a while I was suctioning his trach, putting fluids in his g-tube, changing his urine bag, and much more.
Whether this be through a weekly hall social event or by decorating the hall in different themes. Their role is to make the hall a successful community where everyone works together to live in peace. They should be accessible to their peers, and allow their peers to come to them with problems that they are facing, whether it be a roommate disagreement, a maintenance issue, or just to lend a friendly ear. A Resident Assistant should help their fellow students adjust to life on campus and living with a roommate, whom they may not always get along with. A Resident Assistant’s role also includes the less than glamorous aspects of administrative duties.
Field Experience: Interview Rationale: I chose to interview my grandfather about his experience being the primary care-taker for my grandmother since she had a stroke roughly two years and eight months ago. The reason why I chose to do this is because while I’ve talked to my grandmother about her experience many times, I have never spoken to my grandfather about what it is like to be in the position in which he is. I have had experience with stroke survivors before after I had volunteered with the speech therapy department at a rehabilitation facility in Harrisburg, PA, but I was interested to see what it is like for the people who take care of these individuals. I imagined it is hard for my grandfather; however I learned a lot about his duties
All of the responsibilities of the Resident Assistant resonate with my character. Simply being there for my residents as a helpful individual is something I look forward to. The idea of mediating conflict is one of the most appealing responsibilities of the job, and at the same time it is the one I am most apprehensive about. Apprehensive not because I do not like dilemmas, but rather because I don’t feel as though I have the current training to be as effective as I would like to be. This feeling does not turn me away from the job, because I have spoken to current RAs about this sentiment, and they all assured me that I would receive
After going to the nursing home with my health care class in grade 11 for about a month I decided to volunteer on my own after this field experience ended, at the Heritage Green Nursing Home over the weekends. Also, during school hours I was involved in the Co-op program and was placed in another nursing home called Ridgeview Long-Term Care. I was involved in this program for 5 months. While volunteering one of my responsibilities was to have daily one-on-one visitations, which involved visiting 2-4 of the residents’ daily. The time period for this depended on the time available, about 10 minutes to an hour with each visit.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
but as he says: if I prepare the food ... (…) then they may have time to sit down while she eats. (Care Partner 6, son) This care partner also expressed understanding of the fact that there are many people in need for help from home care. When the participants pointed out areas with potential for improvement, it was on behalf of the service user, not on their own behalf. This one-sided focus was also apparent in relation to the home care service: only one care partner expressed that he felt acknowledged by the home care staff.
My grandmother was a nurse. For thirty years she cared compassionately for her patients, and for three years she watched my demented grandfather receive lackluster care before he died. My experiences as a patient were vastly different from my grandparents’. The care I received and the compassion I was shown led me to pursue nursing as a profession. The discrepancy between our accounts of care shows that although nurses are compassionate, there is opportunity for growth.
I help them re-learn everyday living skills such as cooking cleaning, becoming more social etc. Everyday I deal with parents, grandparents, guardians, case managers, advocates the list can go on so I must always be respectful greet them when they arrive. Your language also plays an important part in creating a professional atmosphere, you Shouldn't have inappropriate conversation with family members or the residents, and always use correct terms
For three years I lived at Glennwood, an assisted living home for people with disabilities. While living there I was required to help out around the property in some way. I agreed to help out in the front office. My duties included answering the phones, greeting and directing guest, sorting the mail, letting people in the front gate, and any other projects someone on staff needed help with. Because I was in the front office so much I would often time over hear issues regarding other residents. For a long time, people use to just let this go because I would let the information in one ear and out the other.
I have worked with senior citizens before and I really enjoyed the time I was able to spend with them. Helping them with their daily task, and being able to sit and hear their interesting lives and struggles resonated with me. I am currently a pre-health student and I understand that healthcare is more than having a doctor prescribe medication. Sometimes people need others to just be there with them and help out where is
