Most schools prepare students for college during middle school and high school, then again some wait until last minute and end up in a huge panic. Certain people are expected to go to college and some make the choice right away and some wait a year. Many go and some choose not to, but when it comes to college, it’s a huge topic in a senior’s life! We have to apply, write papers for scholarships, then cross our fingers and pray to get an acceptance letter or email, and pray we don’t see the words “denied” or “We’re sorry to inform you…”. As I said, not everyone goes to college but my sister decided to go because she wanted a better future for her and her son. In March of 2010, my sister Paige found out she was pregnant. Because of this she had to take a year off. When my nephew was born Paige attended Miller Motte Technical College and studied to be a nurse’s assistant. She found this was the right place for her because she loves helping people within the community. This is probably why I am going to choose the same …show more content…
Depending on where you apply at, determines where you are able to use your scholarship at. Only some colleges require that you use that scholarship for expenses billed by that specific college. A renewable scholarship will help pay for whatever major or classes you want to go into for four years. I believe that is amazing. Not a lot of scholarships can last that long. There is only one catch with these types of scholarships, you have to keep a good GPA, along with following specific majors, and careers. With getting a scholarship worth a lot, I would find the majors I want to do in the next three-four years. For when I go to college and study what I planned my senior year of high school, may be different when I am in a freshman in college. Changing my majors is good but you want to make sure you do it as soon as you can because the minute you start your majors you are using up money and
I believe that I am qualified for this scholarship because of how much I have grown at Wendell Baptist Church. It has helped me grow in my walk with God through missions and through serving. It has helped me appreciate the little things in life like the slides during services on sunday morning. Showing me that the little things like that do not just happen and some people put a lot of work into making them happen. Wendell Baptist Church has also shown me just how great my life is and how the problems I think I have are actually not that big of a deal in the long run.
Attaining the Coolidge Scholarship will help me pay my way through college so that I won't have to struggle to pay loans after. I also have a dream. I want to be a successful woman married with four kids. I want to have my own happily ever after. Receiving the Coolidge Scholarship will play a massive role to make this dream of mine come true.
The decision to attend college immediately after high school is one of the many challenges high schoolers face upon graduating. There are several reasons why that attending college promptly after graduation is a good idea. It is more beneficial than waiting because one will already have the drive to continue on with school rather than waiting, one will also graduate sooner which in turn will result in better job opportunities, and one is more likely to apply one’s high school knowledge. By attending college immediately after high school, one is more like to continue with one’s momentum. If one stops and waits to return to school, one would lose that drive to challenge that higher education.
College Isn’t for Everyone "By telling all young people that they should go to college no matter what, we are actually doing some of them a disservice" (Owen). This quote from “Brookings Paper: Is College a Good Investment” goes into detail about how college isn’t for everyone. By educators, parents, and authority figures telling graduating high school seniors that college is necessary, they are limiting the potential of that student’s true skills. College isn’t right for everyone and not everyone wants to go to college.
They also are helping minorities to have a chance to change the world, what I mean by that is that because it’s so much money to go to colleges without having scholarships, having this scholarship gives them the opportunity to compete with the best of the best and show the world what minorities can do. This scholarship program to me is effective in helping the leadership and the growth of younger students and helping them achieve the goals that would not have been an
College is one of the most significant times in a person’s life. Every year high school kids will visit many different colleges so that they can be confident in their college decision. Some kids will follow in their parent’s foot steps and base their decision on where their mom or dad went, though, not all kids are fortunate to have help from their parents. Many kids nowadays may be the first in their family to take on higher education. The article, “First Generation College Students: Unprepared and Behind” by Liz Riggs explains that kids who are the first in their family to take on college are at a disadvantage compared to kids with parents who attended college.
The main way that this scholarship will assist my academic career at the University of Michigan is by allowing me to be able to take classes during the Spring/Summer terms, which is something I would not be able to afford on my own. Taking classes during the spring and summer will grant me the opportunity to spread out my course load, which will, in turn, help me receive better grades and learn concepts more thoroughly. It also will allow me to spend more time volunteering with different psychology labs and my student organization (Active Minds) during the Spring/Summer term, as well as the Fall and Winter terms of my senior year. With less of a course load in each specific semester, I will be able to allocate the time necessary to fulfill my lab duties, gain work experience, and have experiences that will make me a more well-rounded student without being overworked or feeling too overwhelmed. While classes are my
In today society, people have placed a high value on education; many believed that with a higher education they could obtain a better job. Many jobs are now requiring employee to have some sort of educational degree. The cost of college has increase 3 times faster than inflation (Baum, Payea 7). Financial aid is defined in the Merriam-Webster as “money that is given or lent to students in order to pay for their education”(“Financial aid”). As a result, many students have to rely on financial aid to pay for their college expense.
I looked into scholarships before I knew exactly where I was going, but some scholarships are specifically for students going to specific colleges. Also your college may have a database of scholarships you can apply to within the college. Some colleges may also offer you a scholarships that you did not apply to. That is because some scholarships do not have a separate application from the college. When you apply to the college, you may be applying to some scholarships and not even know.

There are so many scholarships out there that it is almost impossible to apply for the aid of all of them. Scholarships are basically a grant of money for a characteristic of the student. There are scholarships for being an athlete, for being Hispanic, for having applied to a certain school, for having done hours of community service, and the list goes on. Growing up, for most people, going to college is not an option- its an expectation. In our society, going to college has become a fundamental part of our education, becoming an adult, and for most people just simply part of our lives. However, as people grow up and experience reality, the realization hits that college may not be as simple as once thought. As much as attending college is expected from the majority of young people, dropping out of college is not. Even with the idealization of the college experience, some students are forced to cut their education short due to a plethora of issues.
What makes me an ideal candidate for the scholarship program is a very hard question to answer, in which I for one cannot answer alone. However, I can set some of my attitudes, values, and traits and share my characteristics as a person that I hope can help me to be qualified for this scholarship. First and foremost, upon applying to this scholarship, there is only one thing that is set to my mind, and that is to help my parent’s in their expenses throughout my college, I know that college is by far the most expensive enrollment that a student to enter, for this serves as a stepping stone for students success, or me rather to pursue my future career in the future. The essence of entering college serves very important part to me, for this is an
