Amityville “horror” house is nothing but a cozy house built on a canal. Elegant and beautiful, The Amityville house was the example of exceptional wealth in Amityville. Except there is one more detail that is not so elegant or beautiful. Six of the Defeo family was found dead in this house on November 13th, 1974, including three children under the age of fourteen. Many theorists think Amityville is haunted, and some do not. Data and evidence found over the years prove that Amityville is not haunted due to the planned murder, the reason to write The Amityville Horror book, and the Warren’s investigation at the Amityville house. The ruthless murder plan was very analytically prepared. Ronald “Butch” Defeo Jr. declared he murdered his family alone, but psychologists and other speculators think otherwise. Dawn Defeo came into the picture after Butch finally admitted that he had help with the murders. “Her father was preventing her from joining her boyfriend in Florida and exhausted from the years of physical abuse, Dawn Defeo approached her older brother about killing their parents”( Osuna 1). Osuna said in his book The Night the Defeos Died. Ronald Defeo Sr. was physically abusive to his family, especially to his two oldest children Dawn and Butch. Dawn Defeo was sick of the daily abuse Ronald Defeo Sr. put on the family. She had a boyfriend in Florida she wanted to escape to, so she asked her father if she could go …show more content…
In this case, there were a team of normal crime investigators and paranormal investigators led by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens and their team of investigators were professional paranormal experts. Their previous case was investigating poltergeist in a rural, old house off the coast of North Carolina. The paranormal investigators were granted permission to stay at the Amityville house in 1975 for a four night stay. Out of those four nights they only found one piece of evidence that makes sense. (Osuna 1). “ The controversial theory of a demon “boy”, who looks very similar to the youngest of the Defeo family might be one of the researchers on the Warren’s team” (Seibold 1) If you look closely, the boy was wearing a flower shirt similar to what Paul Bartz was wearing at that same moment. The infrared lighting that the camera lenses explains how the figure’s eyes were glowing. During the Warren’s investigation, the team claimed the Defeos “were in a state of phantomania, which in effect paralyzes them, making them unable to move.” (Warren 1). That explains why there were no signs of struggle. Not because of the house masked them so the neighbors could not hear them. There is also some evidence found that some of the Defeos were awake during the murders because of their final stances in their beds. For example, psychical research confirmed that Marc
Pasty and John Ramsey had the perfect all-American family, until they were involved with the murder of their own daughter. JonBenet was a 6-year-old beauty queen whose body was found in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home; while the murder still remains unsolved, it is obvious who killed her. This murder investigation still captivates the nation to this day. The Ramsey’s were the definition of a perfect family.
Vincow was asleep in her Los Angeles home on the night of June 28, 1984, when Ramirez would sneak through her window, she’d left open. Ramirez then found Vincow and repeatedly stabbed her before slicing her throat. Throughout most of the attack, Vincow had been screaming, yet not even one of her neighbors would call the police. After cleaning up some of the blood splatter from the attack, Ramirez would ransack the house and steal what he thought was valuable. Vincows body wouldn’t be found until later that day when her son came to visit, but there was no sign or trace of who her killer was.
It is likely that the first family to arrive that of Simmons’s twenty-three-year-old son, William H, Simmons II. He was accompanied by his wife, Renata May Simmons, and their son. The child was only twenty months old. The young couple was shot. Their bodies were covered with coats and bedding in the dining room rather than being thrown in the pit Simmons had used to inter the other murdered family members.

While the novel “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson and the film “Sunset Boulevard” directed by Billy Wilder both feature isolated, haunted mansions that drive the protagonists insane, they differ in that Eleanor becomes possessed by the house and Norma is possessed by her fame, which is important because it shows the different ways of how an isolated environment can lead lead characters into madness. The main setting of both the novel and film take place in a large, isolated mansion. In “The Haunting of Hill House,” the characters visit a gothic castle that is hidden away from everyday reality. The overall atmosphere of the house seems to be grand, a place that could possibly be from a “book of fairytales” (Jackson pg. 37).

The Amityville Horror has long been one of the most extreme, popular, and controversial paranormal events in North America, especially within the last 40 years. It began on November 13, 1974 when Ronald “Butch” DeFeo, Jr. murdered his father, mother, two sisters, and two brothers at their house at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, New York. There is much controversy surrounding the 1974 murders because no one really knows exactly what happened, even though DeFeo was tried and found guilty on six counts of second-degree murder, leading to six sentences of 25 years to life. Thirteen months later the Lutz family bought the house at 112 Ocean Avenue because it was priced well below market value due to the murders associated with it. During the 28 days
Walking through downtown Brownsville, Lesley saw a vast amount of silhouettes emerging from a distance. The night stood dark as well as misty while steam rose from the vents making it harder to see, however the shadows that once seemed far from reach, now rose to the top of buildings. She felt her heart rate rise besides speeding up as she approached an ally that remained unavoidable. The sound of fast cars passing by in addition to rigid brakes made her think of so many unwanted situations she recalled from movie clips. The street lights began to flicker causing the ally to grow darker, which made it seem longer to cross.
In 1972, a research team set out on a new case about Philip Aylesford; the catch is that it was all made up. The team from the Toronto Society for Psychical Research was trying to prove that some paranormal activities were actually the result of peoples brains using psychokinetic energy. After weeks of firm believing, things began to happen that weren’t before, such as the table moving. This helps with the hypothesis that what other people think and say about ghosts might have a stronger effect on a person’s personal beliefs than is thought(Gudgeon 20). Harry price is one of many people who lived to disprove ghosts and to prove paranormals wrong.
