“Baby Brianna” July 19, 2002, Las Cruces, New Mexico was the date and place where the “Worst Case of Child Abuse in U.S. History” occurred. The murder of five-month-old Brianna Mariah Lopez best known as “Baby Brianna.” Born on February 14, 2002 to her mother, Stephanie Lopez and her father, Andy Walters. A couple of days after her birth she was taken into a home where Stephanie and Andy resided with Stephanie’s brother, Steven Lopez and her eighteen-month-old brother Andy Jr. This home became the horrific setting where her three family members abused her on a daily basis instead of providing the love and care she needed. According to court documents, on Thursday night, July 18 around 6 p.m. Andy Walters bought a case of beer and returned home where Stephanie Lopez and her brother Steven Lopez where waiting for him. The three individuals started consuming alcohol but Stephanie went off to bed early after drinking two-three beers. We do not realize that other people in our community or in our world there are many children that are getting abused or hurt by their families. An article called “Skagit County couple charged with death of adopted child” that was written by Natasha Ryan and Jake Whittenberg described the life of Hana Williams. Hana Williams was just 13 years old when she died. The girl was found dead in her backyard on May 12, naked and wrapped in a sheet.
In this essay, I will be going over the musical career of Selena Quintanilla in great detail. This will include her start in music, her songs, her albums, and awards, though I'll be more focused on the first three. Selena led an extraordinary music career because of her music style and stage presence. She had an extraordinary fan base that continues to support her and her music even after death. As I watched the documentary “Road Beyond Abuse,” I experienced a whirlwind of emotions. From disgusted and disappointed to impressed and joyful, I felt it all. It truly disturbed me to hear about the experiences both Michael McCain and Johnnetta McSwain endured.
