Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas, to a Mexican family, and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she began her musical career. She is the youngest out of three children, A.B Quintanilla III and Suzette Quintanilla. Selena first showed her interest in music at the young age of three, and at the age of six she could sing English and Spanish like a pro. Selena grew up speaking English, and before her dad taught her how to speak Spanish fluently, she learned how to sing Spanish lyrics phonetically.
