The book starts off with with Larry Ellison in the middle of a race from Sydney to Hobart on his boat Sayonara. Larry is the billionaire CEO of Oracle and is also an avid sailor. In the race the wind is at about 30-40 knots and they are barely keeping control of the boat. As the race goes on all of the boats go through a hurricane near the tip of Cape Horn, where some of the most brutal sailing conditions are. As they go through the hurricane Larry’s tactician (Chris Dickson) and Larry decide they have to change their course because the hurricane is too strong. After battling through the storm they finish the race in first with everyone okay and no severe injuries. The book then focuses on Norbert, a radiator repair man in San Francisco. Norbert is the son of two immigrants and he owns Alouis Radiator Repair which his father created. As the book follows Norbert it talks about how his parents immigrated and what his life was like. Then, the book returns to the present as Norbert goes to the Golden Gate Yacht Club. The Golden Gate is a small yacht club that was overshadowed by the St. Francis which was another yacht club nearby and it was much nicer and a lot fancier. This chapter focuses mostly on the kite running tournament and the friendship of Amir and Hassan. In Kabul, winter is one of the best times of the year. The school has been closed and the kite running tournaments have begun. Baba buys both Amir and Hassan there kites from a man in shop in preparation for the tournament. At this time, Amir feels jealous of Hassan that he cannot receive any sort of present from Baba just for himself.

Irene, the main protagonist is how we learn about passing for another race. She is reunited with her childhood friend, Clare Kendry who is also black and is passing for white. The reason that these women are passing for another race is just so they can try and live a normal life. There are people in the novel who do nothing but make life hard for the girls. Larsen uses antagonist characters to show what it would have been to live at the time as a black woman.

The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, depicts a classic coming of age tale, a perfect example of personal triumph. Though things are rough at times in his life, in the end, he accomplishes his goals of living a good and happy life. He grows up in Afghanistan and after the situation in the region deteriorates he needs to flee to America. There he finds love but has roadblocks in his way that he must overcome.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a fiction novel about the complicated relationship between two half-brothers. One of the brothers, Hassan is portrayed as a very loyal, brave, and selfless person while enduring the unfairness of the societal hierarchy. Furthermore, Hassan never changes and represents the innocent archetype throughout the book. Reading through the archetypal criticism lens allows readers to identify patterns and predict what will happen throughout the book. In addition, by knowing how characters fit into an archetypal role, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the characters’ motivations, actions, and relationships with other characters.
The novel, The Kite Runner, tells a story about two incredibly strong and courageous boys, who have to find their way back from a dreadful thing which they thought they could never forget. The two boys are guided by their father, Baba, who is also looking for forgivness in himself. In the end, all of the boys find redemption for their wrongdoings. One of the boys, Hassan, shows extreme courage from the very beginning of the book.
Robert Walton physically explores the unknown by setting off on a voyage to the North Pole. He wants to uncover the mystery of the compass by sailing through the Arctic Ocean. He learns how to sail and reads about other people who have made this journey before, but he doesn'tt consider the dangers that he might face on this journey. Robert and his crew get surrounded by ice, and they don’t know if they will make it out alive. He didn't bring necessary supplies for their escape.
George Gershwin was an American composer from Brooklyn, New York who can be only described as a legendary contributor to American music. Born on September, 26th 1898 Gershwin to an immigrant family, Gershwin became a classic example of the American dream. Gershwin did not have any formal musical training due to his family not being very well to do, he still began mastering his craft at a very young age. Realizing George’s potential, his family enrolled him in piano lessons with Charles Hambitzer (Britannica). Like most great minds, Gershwin dropped out of school only at the age of fifteen and began to pursue his talent full time.
This novel is similar to the novel Crime and Punishment because in both of the story lines the main characters do not think of how their actions will affect those around them. For example, in Crime and Punishment the main character Rask kills a pawnbroker because he is frustrated that she has been ripping him and other people off when they are trying to get a fair deal. While in The Kite Runner Amir is extremely rude to Hassan, letting him get raped by not stepping in and trying to defend Hassan, bullying Hassan by pushing him around and calling him names, and by lying to him all the time when all Hassan wanted to do was to learn new things and to be Amir’s friend.
