Rhetoric Monologue

Activity theory, as interpreted by Ph.D. candidates, Wardle and Kain, is a process that attempts to see all aspects of activity such as social interactions and use of writing and language to achieve goals. This theory is award winning. Activity theory states that for a system to be effective, the rules, community, subject, division of labor, and motives must be reasonable. These components are shown through the chosen tool of communication most often. When one area of the system is corrupted, the tool will no longer function correctly in order to communicate or achieve its goals.

I agree with the message of this clip, which is to be cautious when looking for love and be certain that a deep and meaningful connection is present prior to engaging in intercourse with another. I think this is important because we live in a world that is over sexualized and as a result teaches our youth the wrong messages and leaves women feeling that they must seduce a man in order to entice and keep a man. In my opinion, Pastor Paul quoted two of the most profound statements which was King Solomon 's quote "Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires" this was a crucial message because it was directed at women who throughout history have had a tendency to seek love and in many cases try to force love when it is non-existent. On October 15th, 2016 Austin Community College’s Department of History and the Diversion of Social and Behavioral Sciences created a history symposium. This symposium consisted of 2 speakers, Theresa Jach and Kemp Dixon, who spoke about convict leasing and the law east of the Pecos. Throughout Theresa’s speech she showed us the similarities between convict leasing and slavery in the early years of American history. She reminds us that while slavery has been abolished, the enslavement of individuals who have been convicted of a crime is still legal and allows the state to have the opportunity to make a profit off of keeping correction facilities full. Rhetorical Analysis of “The Necessity to Speak” Sam Hamill writes his essay “The Necessity to Speak” not in response to a particular event, but the series of violent, harmful events that lead to a silence that must come to an end. He effectively uses different methods of persuasive argument, namely the tools of rhetoric. Hamill has the clear purpose of advocating “the articulation of one’s truest and deepest response” to a world of “lies and silence about violence” (Hamill 473); he desires a world where instead of people refusing to speak, people refuse to stay silenced. The best way to get readers to abandon their silence is through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.

Based on the readings and videos that you read/watched during week one, how would you describe “rhetoric”? What is “the rhetorical situation” and how do you see an awareness of this concept affecting your writing and behaviors? The word “rhetoric” is considered as the art of using language effectively and persuasively in any form of communication. So, it is omnipresent in our life.

Dialogic vs. Monologic Rhetoric Most students have had at least one bad teacher during their time in school. Looking back, many of the classes I didn’t enjoy or struggled with had teachers who treated the classroom like it was a one-sided conversation. In that case the teacher is engaging in monologic conversation, and in this paper, I will be discussing why dialogic conversation is more beneficial to the listener than monologic. This will be supported by talking about how rhetoric has evolved from Aristotle to Bakhtin, Aristotle’s version of monologic conversation, and how dialogic conversation would be more helpful in situations such as the classroom.

In chapter ten of The Outsiders, Ponyboy is as expected takes the death of Johnny and Dally extremely poorly. He cannot understand how he lost his friends so quickly and he does not know how to process all of it. Since Ponyboy is unable to accept their death he tells himself that they are not dead in order to cope with what has happened (Hinton, 2006, p. 150). Rhetorical Analysis of Remember the Titans In the movie Remember the Titans, Coach Boone states, that his players need to be unified together as a team, instead of being separated because of the color of their skin. He does this by using allusion, diction, and a rhetorical question. Boone uses a rhetorical question in line one when he states, “Anybody know what this place is?”

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.

The ability to divide our attention during cognitively demanding tasks and the allure of technology creates a delicate balancing act that can at times have grave consequences. On September 22, 2006 in Utah, Reggie Shaw placed the fates of James Furfaro and Keith O’Dell, as well as his own upon this deadly scale. Tragically, the lives of James and Keith were lost, and Reggie Shaw’s future would be forever altered by the events and decisions of that day (Richtel 16). In this modern age of technological marvels our attention is vied for in a constant conflict. Frequently in our lives or particularly in our jobs we are called upon to execute mentally demanding and at times dangerous tasks.
