Hispanic College Enrollment Ad council campaigns have been focusing on how to produce an impact to many people’s lives and influencing them to see education in a whole new different way. The campaigns in order to grab attention use rhetorical strategies to persuade the audience. In “Backpack vs Briefcases”,written by Laura Bolin Carroll defines rhetoric as the way we use our language and images to persuade (46). Rhetorical strategies used in many campaigns and stated in Carroll’s essay are ethos, pathos and logos. For many hispanic parents including mine have the guilt on them of not knowing how to help their child whenever it comes to education because they never had the education we as their children are having. First of all, the Hispanic Scholarship Foundation also known as HSF, shows how they also care for families and that whatever help the students and family need, they are there to help. The foundation tries to unite themselves with families to make them as well feel like they are part of their family. HSF comments based on hispanic college students to, “Ensure every Hispanic household in the U.S. has at least one college graduate, inspiring and mentoring others in the family and community” (par. 5). If people realize that older adults want to use technology more time and determination can be made for these adults. Activity theory, as interpreted by Ph.D. candidates, Wardle and Kain, is a process that attempts to see all aspects of activity such as social interactions and use of writing and language to achieve goals. This theory is award winning. Activity theory states that for a system to be effective, the rules, community, subject, division of labor, and motives must be reasonable. These components are shown through the chosen tool of communication most often. When one area of the system is corrupted, the tool will no longer function correctly in order to communicate or achieve its goals.

The ASPCA is an organization that is against animal abuse, its acronym stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The organization is very known for their long, sad, and emotional commercial. Throughout the commercial, it contains the three rhetorical appeals: ethos, logos, and pathos.
One of the techniques that the authors incorporated within their works is the rhetorical appeal logos. Logos is a rhetorical appeal that focuses on convincing an audience through logical appeals, often using statistics and data. (Cite Professor) Worthen provides a report conveying the increased incivility and inappropriate behaviour conducted within a college class. “Sociologists who surveyed undergraduate syllabuses from 2004 and 2010 found that in 2004, 14 percent addressed issues related to classroom etiquette; six years later, that number had more than doubled, to 33 percent.”
For many years, companies have utilized advertising as a useful tool to promote their brands, convey a message, or sell their products. In today’s world, advertisements can be seen almost everywhere from enormous billboards along highways to a diminutive ads on a phone. But not all advertisements are successful. To convey a message, advertisements must contain rhetorical devices such as pathos, logos, and ethos. A good example of how rhetorical devices are used to persuade an audience is the Edward Jones “Nine Days” commercial.
Based on the readings and videos that you read/watched during week one, how would you describe “rhetoric”? What is “the rhetorical situation” and how do you see an awareness of this concept affecting your writing and behaviors? The word “rhetoric” is considered as the art of using language effectively and persuasively in any form of communication. So, it is omnipresent in our life.
1) Of the three primary units we have completed in this course, the most challenging unit for me was the argument (persuasion) unit. I was surprised at how much I struggled both in the pre-writing process and in the writing process. To begin with, because I love arguments, I had trouble choosing a topic. In the end, I decided to challenge myself with the policy that requires sex offender to be added to a public registry policy. Instead of going with my initial stance (opposition), I decided to flip the scrip and argue the opposite of what I believe (proposition).
Rhetoric is used in all types of writing. It persuades an audience to accept or consider an idea. Two of the rhetorical appeals that are used in Kilbourne article are Logos and Ethos. The appeals to logos is the rhetors reasoning. In other words, logos is the way an author convinces his/her audience that an argument makes sense or seems logical by creating the technique of an argument.
One of my biggest supporters are my parents. Their support and conviction about the worth of acquiring an education has shaped my beliefs, values and ambition to continue higher education and use my career in a progressive way to give back to my community. Unfortunately, not everyone had the same support system like I did. Many of my peers struggled whether to continue their education or financially support their family. This is a very dangerous reality within the Latino community that needs to be addressed and resolved immediately.
Parents cannot afford the cost of a college education and less Hispanics enroll in college. Hispanics with the lowest family income reach the lowest educational attainment as depicted on Graph #1. Hispanics low paying jobs affects the family income, the family economic success and the Hispanics attendance in college contributing to the low rate of college educated Hispanics. Low-income families’ young adults living in poverty do not attend college placing themselves in academic disadvantage. In addition, Hispanics have certain disadvantages, of one way or another, of even graduating from high school.

This film puts emphasis on a homeless, black teen, Michael Oher, who has had no stability or support in his life thus far.
For this rhetorical analysis essay I decided to reflect upon the somewhat recent documentary titled “The Social Dilemma”. From gen-zians to baby boomers, this film was dedicated to educating people on the impact of social media on today’s society as we have entered a tech-frenzy world. Just like many other people, I wanted to see what the craze was about when this film was produced back in 2020. Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
In the winter of 1776, during American Revolution, the still young America faced three major dilemmas: their seemingly imminent defeat, the moral debate between the Whigs and the British loyalists, and the panic and confusion of the American public. In efforts to settle the three American dilemmas, Thomas Paine wrote The Crisis No. 1 in December of 1776. In his work, Paine aimed to calm the American public and convince them to stand up to the British, and turn the war into an American victory. Persuasion techniques are often used by political figures, sales people, entrepreneurs, and just about anyone trying to persuade a target audience through emotions, character, and logic. The ad, I Am One, shows how these vehicles of persuasion are presented and used; rhetorical strategies like tone, attitude, and non-rhetorical strategies related, patriotism and history references.
