Because the author was raised in Mississippi on a plantation in between two world wars, he was exposed to racism every single day. The author experienced the Jim Crow laws and the effect the laws had on society and those of color. Wright is a man of color and is subjected to all forms of racial prejudice and is unable to escape it. Although, he fights daily with racism around him he is able to develop the knowledge he needs but others have not. Wright struggles with not developing prejudice attitudes towards those who are not as knowledgeable as he may be.

Social systems evolve with the advancement of political thought, science, and religion. The system of racism in the United States has so evolved, as the political will to end slavery solidified, and science proved that blacks were not different from whites as many pseudo-Darwinists claimed, and as religious mobilization in the South helped to end much racial segregation through unity. What is important here is that those systems evolved, rather than vanishing. Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow and the Netflix documentary 13th each discuss this phenomenon, from slavery to the prison industrial complex.
After reading/viewing the Jim Crow pieces, I conclude that the Jim Crow Laws were ways for South and border states to uphold racism and evade federal laws. I believe this, in part, because of the historical image I viewed. The print portrays a ragged man with a manic smile plastered upon his face (V. E.). The man, who was African-American, wears ragged clothes, while animals walk in formal attire (V. E.). I believe that this depiction was implying the worth of the man.
Race is one the most sensitive and controversial topics of our time. As kids, we were taught that racism has gotten better as times has passed. However, the author, Michelle Alexander, of The New Jim Crow proposes the argument that racism has not gotten better, but the form of racism that we known in textbooks is not the racism we experience today. Michelle Alexander has countless amounts of plausible arguments, but she has failed to be a credible author, since she doesn’t give enough citations or evidence for her argument to convince people who may not have prior agreement with her agreement.. Alexander’s biggest mistake when it came to being a credible author was starting off the book with a countless number of claims without any evidence in her Introduction.
In the eyes of Martin Luther King Jr., Justice within a society is achieved through the implementation of just laws. Furthermore, “just laws are regulations that have been created by man that follow the laws of God for man” (“Clergymen’s Letter”). Any law that does not correspond with the ideals of God and morality are considered to be unjust or a form of injustice. King identifies that injustice is clearly evident within the justice system. This injustice can truly be seen through the misconduct imposed toward the African American community.
Police believes they don’t have to respect people of color ,and think it 's okay to mistreat them instead. The officers been discriminating people of color because they assume every african american are criminal and bad. They harass people of color just to make them feel intimidate. The police kill innocent black people and don 't get charged guilty at all. There’s three side of people which is the people who get affected by it, the people who overlooks it, and the people who just don 't care.
5th Hour Cause and Effect Essay Jim Crow laws The Jim Crow laws were unfair and unjust to all African-Americans by making them unequal. The Jim Crow laws are laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. It used the term separate but equal, even though conditions for African Americans were always worst than their white counterparts. They could not eat at the same restaurant as white people, they could not used the same restrooms, and they couldn't even use the same drinking fountain.
African Americans contributed positively and negatively during each era of the History of the United States. Despite numerous disparities towards African Americans, the many laws formed to keep them within racial boundaries continued after, the United States Government deemed African Americans equal and entitled to justice. White American cowboys were likely to work side by side with African Americans on the open range in the early 1900’s. Regardless of their ethnic background, cowboys tended to share camaraderie made necessary by a job that brought them together in the desolate conditions of the open cattle drive (Barnes & Bowles, 2014 ch1.2).

Slavery is over therefore how can racism still exist? This has been a question posed countlessly in discussions about race. What has proven most difficult is adequately demonstrating how racism continues to thrive and how forms of oppression have manifested. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, argues that slavery has not vanished; it instead has taken new forms that allowed it to flourish in modern society. These forms include mass incarceration and perpetuation of racist policies and societal attitudes that are disguised as color-blindness that ultimately allow the system of oppression to continue.
The piece of writing which I felt was unsuccessful for me was the Rhetorical Analysis of an article relating to a topic from our course book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. This piece of writing was difficult for me to organize my ideas around. The article that I decided to use for my rhetorical analysis highlighted mass incarceration among African American and the effect of civil liberties being are taken away from these individuals. I had a lot of repetition because many of the examples I used demonstrated more than one type of appeal. I found myself repeating what the purpose of the example was and how it demonstrated proper use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Racial segregation affected many lives in a negative way during the 1900s. Black children had it especially hard because growing up was difficult to adapting to whites and the way they want them to act. In Black Boy, Richard Wright shows his struggles with his own identity because discrimination strips him of being the man he wants to be. Richard undergoes many changes as an individual because of the experience he has growing up in the south and learning how to act around whites.
