As a Roman citizen, watching the decline of the Roman Empire was frightening because of the constant worry. The Roman Empire lost its power due to simultaneous external and internal factors such as the lack of political stability, deterioration of the military, and constant invasions from outsiders. The first internal factor that led to the fall of the Roman Empire was the lack of political stability. This was due to the constant change of emperors, causing haphazard leadership. “The soldiers in various parts of the empire proclaimed fifty emperors in about the same number of years” (Lines 8-10, Document 3a, Third Century Crisis of the Roman Empire). This document shows the constant change and just how frequently it happened. This led to the destruction of the government, due to the chaos and fear of death, resulting in distrust between soldiers and emperors. In conclusion, the constant change of emperors caused wariness and disorganization in the Roman Empire and its government. …show more content…
This was due to the lack of military trust and discipline. According to Document 6, “Troops, defenseless and exposed to all the weapons of the enemy, are more disposed to fly than fight,” representing how the military is disorganized and unprepared. Also stated in Document 8, “ the vigor of the military government was relaxed, and finally dissolved, by the partial institutions of the Constantine, and the Roman world was overwhelmed by a deluge of Barbarians,” shows how unorganization of the military resulted in the frequent loss of battles, impacting the Roman Empire as a hole. In conclusion, the constant loss of battle, resulting in the fall of Rome, was due to the lack of organization in the
After examining these documents, my three reasons for the fall of Rome are, Foreign invaders invading Rome, natural disasters, and the citizens weren't wearing armor. The first reason for the fall of Rome is that foreign invaders were invading Rome. the map in document C shows a lot of the foreign invaders coming to Rome to invade Rome. (Document C) My reason why I picked this is that when the invaders invaded Rome, the roman army is getting weaker and other armies are attacking Rome and the roman army runs away instead of fighting back.
This shows that one of the main reasons that led to the fall of the Roman empire was because of their financial strains. Because of this, they weren’t able to recruit people to fight for them in wars, which overtime caused them to lose wars.
Many Roman emperors only lasted about a year as rulers which led to the Roman people not truly making a connection/bond with the emperor who served which led to
“There can be little doubt that the weakness of the late Roman army was largely due to the eventual failure…”(Document B). Due to the fact that they never wore the armor it caused them to lose a lot of wars because they could be hit by archers and caused them to lose a lot of games. “So our soldiers fought the goths without protection for chest and head and were often beaten by archers.” (Document B) Rome paid so much attention to that government they totally forgot about the army and it caused a lot of losses that were going on at wars. In the Quotes above they are explaining some reason why Rome wasn’t as strong as a lot of outsiders thought they were.
The Fall of the Roman Empire In ancient Rome there was a lot of change that was always happening. Around 50 BCE until 200 CE the Roman empire was the key to everyone's problems in the Mediterranean world. Some of the changes in the Roman empire caused death and assassinations.
So Rome paid thousands of German soldiers to fight for them. Obviously this made Rome 's military weak because they would easily run from battle or betray Rome because they had nothing to protect in Rome. Another reason the Roman empire fell to shambles was because the Roman military stopped going on military conquests. When they did this the Roman economy collapsed because the economy relied on the constant income of plundered trophies from captured civilizations.
Fall of Rome DBQ Including most of the Mediterranean world, Rome, a city that was growing big enough to become one of the world’s largest empire’s would soon slowly fall apart because of their problems. In 27 BC, Rome’s first emperor, Augustus Caesar, took complete power. During his time, he ruled with Pax Romana, a time of Roman peace which lasted for almost 200 years. After his death, the Roman Empire begun to break apart. The primary reasons for the fall of Rome was it being geographically too big; the population was decreasing due to plagues which led to the Roman army becoming weak, social and military issues and laziness of the military would guide the army down which led to cities being lost, and their government and leadership issues of the weak or selfish power leaders would all conduct to the breaking up of Rome.
The two factors that most contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire were greatly impactful in Ancient History. Before the fall of the Empire, during the Pax Romana, Emperors ruled longer and most likely died of natural causes. During the decline, the reign was much shorter and they were most likely to be murdered. Thanks to Dioclectian’s reign, the New Empire was introduced, giving people more rights and protection. However, this resulted in great consequences as it became harder to govern and harder to manage.
The major reasons for the Fall of Rome were caused by its military mistakes, political instability, and their economic/civic decay. Before these events occurred, Rome was one of the wealthiest and greatest empires. The empire was led by a hero named Julius Caesar who helped Rome conquer land and defeat major rivals. As their government became more powerful as well as its empire, this led to the Pax Romana, a time of peace. The empire was peaceful and relaxed throughout its 3rd, 4th, and 5th century.
The reason why I choose political instability as one of the reasons for the fall of Rome is because its chart on doc A . Shows it all. It shows that there were 13 Roman Emperors that have been victims of assassination. There were also 19 emperors in the last 50 years of the roman time
According to Vegeitius, negligence and laziness led to the changes in Roman military armor and training techniques (doc B). I think this is the reason why the fall happened, is that the armor they had on it was rough and the army would get hit by arrows from yards away sometimes they couldn't even fight. Sometimes the army ran away from the fight than actually go fight and some of the Romans were actually happy they were being conquered. Sometimes they would take off their armor and fight and die instantly. The fighting techniques were horrible and none of the armies liked this.
The constant change of emperors caused disorganization in the empire along with the injustices between the wealthy and poor as the wealthy could just bribe their way out of punishment and the government officials would accept the bribes from the rich, followed by severe taxing from the government because they needed to hire Germanic soldiers after their military soldier population decreased by natural disasters while inflation was going on from the government who were devaluing the coin by adding less silver with the wages staying the same, so some Romans switched to bartering and with bartering they didn’t have to pay the severe taxes leading them not being able to hire Germanic soldiers and other state expenses with invasions happening overtime but the Roman army not being able to defend against it because of them neglecting to practice with armor, and soldiers running away against unpredictable attackers with the disorganization within the military from constant emperor changes, furthermore Rome’s military population went down because of diseases and without people paying those severe taxes led to Rome’s fall.. When Rome’s Rome’s fall can be an example of what a society should have and shouldn't. The problems that Rome had should not happen unless it's a country that’s
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. There were many factors that went into the fall of the Roman Empire. Economic problems they dealt with was one of the main reasons the Empire fell. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs.
The Roman Empire was a complex and fascinating civilization that ruled much of Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa for over 500 years. At its height, the Roman Empire was one of the most powerful and influential empires in the world, and its legacy can still be seen today in the many countries that were once part of the empire. The Roman Republic, which preceded the Roman Empire, was established around 509 BC. It was a federal republic with a complex system of government that included two consuls, a senate, and a system of checks and balances.
In the Third Century, the Roman Empire was facing a period of decline in its history. The inner frictions were leading the Empire to the end of its power. Moreover, there was also an outside influence that contained in the danger of other countries and empires of that time. With regard to this, the Empire needed changes in political and social spheres to stay onboard.
