Generally people think that the NFL should adjust the game, and its rules to increase player safety, statistics clearly show that too much adjusting has been done and the NFL is suffering because of it. Too many rules have been changed for player safety and the current changes being discussed, like getting rid of the kickoff, are going to far and the game is not like it was. Players sign contracts and are aware of the risks they put themselves at when playing the game of football at a professional level. Referees are throwing more flags and the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, is handing out a record high of fines. These adjustments by the National Football League are going too far and some rule changes need to be reverted back to their previous rules. …show more content…
Kickoffs already received a few rules changes the last five offseasons. Five years ago the ball placement for kickoffs was changed from the twenty-five yard line to the thirty-five yard line. This increased the number of touchbacks and because of that, reduced the amount kickoff returns. Even more recently changed was the place of the ball after a touchback. After decades of touchbacks being placed at the twenty the NFL decided to change the spot of the ball to the twenty-five. This move was an attempt to increase touchbacks by giving players more yards for not returning the ball. Most defenders of this rule change say that “The kickoff is the most dangerous part of the game.” like Bleacher Report’s Shane Darrow. I do agree that the kickoff is the most dangerous part of football. More injuries occur on that play than any other, and just from watching anyone could understand the risks of the kickoff. However, the kickoff is a vital part to football and the changes being discussed are going too
The intent of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for intentional, and unfair action by the runner by leaving the baseline for the obvious purpose of crashing into someone, in this case, Ruben Tejada on a double play, rather than trying to reach the base. This was obviously an umpire’s perspective. If the appropriate rule had been applied correctly during Game 2, the Mets would have been given a double play, and the inning would have been over, with the Mets up 2-1. In addition, the Mets quickly released a statement about the the suspension of Utley, saying it was “the appropriate course of action.”
In 2006 there was a rule made that teams could provide their own footballs. So he did a average of fumbles per carry from 2000-2006 their fumble rate was 42 touches from 2006-2015 their fumble rate was 74 touches. So the ball was easier to
The first reason the rule should change is that the NFL is losing viewership. The NFL viewership is down roughly eight percent according to ESPN (Rovell). Which roughly is 1.4 million fewer views compared to last years season 17.9 million (Rovell). Primetime games are affected more than the average viewership. Primetime night games are down 10 to 12 percent compared to the 8 percent average, but daytime games were only down 6 to 7 percent compared to the 8 percent average
Solving this problem involves not only educating the public, but also eliminating head-first tackles and providing better equipment. Undoubtedly, football is a difficult, treacherous sport but currently no measures are being taken to improve players’ safety. Small things could make a big difference in the NFL. People are getting hurt before our very eyes, and we don’t do a thing about it, we should be appalled our lack of action and let it motivate us to make improvements and needed
Redesigning the Football Helmet Head to head contact is a very serious matter. Kids, adults, and everyone in between are getting hurt in football due to the hard hits they take either in practice or games. The goal is to make football safer but people are still getting hurt and even killed. There are new helmets coming out every year but still not eliminating the problem.
The other three articles intend to persude on the three-year rule and why it should be changed. All three persuasive articles look at a change in the three-year rule it goes to show that the only people against a change is the NFL themselves. These articles give great support and many tools to use in my own paper. Although, the chance of getting the rule change has been very low in the past these articles show a great success in the push to change the three-year rule.
In the past few years, the number of concussions per year has only spiked. The NFL calls it a “cultural change” in that the staff are more willing to report head injuries instead of neglecting them. However, to many like Christopher Nowinski- one of the founders of the Concussion Legacy foundation- this increase just shows that the NFL does not care to prevent head injuries, only treat them when they are developed. The number of concussions between the 2013 and 2014 season actually increased by 58
According to Dylan Bennett, most NFL players that know that most player that have medicine The National Football League (NFL) needs to change their policy on drug for players that have reason for them. One reason why they need to change it is so players that use prescription drugs can still play in the NFL instead of just being suspended and fine for taking their medication perceived by their doctor. This case will be shown because players have lost a large amount of time form their careers or have lost their careers due to the drug policy of the NFL. What is the NFL drug policy and when it came into effect? What are other sports drug policies?
Add to the fact that he has to drop the ball into a small window to ensure the best results. Also in case the teams kicking gets injured during the game, which is rare, then the punter job has now become to pin the opponent and to get 3 points for the team. Now in league these days many teams have had the punter throw the ball in punting formation to get a first because the offense is struggling or they are down and in need of some points. Not just all this that they can do they can even make trickshots with just punting the football. Also you see a lot of punters that get really technical, thinking maybe they need to take a six-inch or three-foot step with their foot.
If changes are made, the sport will be a lot easier to like and enjoy. More people will want to be involved in the sport and it will probably bring in more funds. Throughout the next years I think changes will be made to reduce head injuries. I believe the sport of football will be changed forever for the safety of the players. I feel like the new precautions are already helping reduce head injuries.
The list goes on forever. There are ways to fix this problem. We can eliminate the amount of concussions that happen during the football season by having stricter penalties, more stringent concussion protocol, and better equipment for the head. Having stricter penalties is a key part in eliminating the amount of concussions that occur during the NFL season. Referees will be particularly alert to fouls in which defenders purposely use the helmet and/or facemask to hit the passer, or use hands, arms, or other parts of the body to hit the passer forcibly in the head or neck area (“Rule 12 Player”).
In short, the introduction of football to America has greatly changed and impacted our lives for the
Unnecessary If it isn’t broken why fix it, which is a phrase the NFL needs to live by. The NFL has changed many long standing rules and traditions. The people that make the changes are turning the NFL into a ‘’soft league’’. The NFL needs to repeal the head slap, pass interference and offensive holding rules.
The object of the diversion is to score by running so as to propel the ball toward the rival's end or passing it forward or along the side. A touchdown is worth 6 focuses and qualifies the kicking so as to score
The change to the safety rules on extra points and 2-point conversions is also seeing a bit of an alteration. In the past. , if an extra point was blocked, the ball was declared dead if a defender got
