Saki The Interlopers Analysis

Every couple ever to date, get engaged, and to get married have had arguments throughout their relationship. It is something that defines a good relationship. What makes it a good quality in a relationship is that in the end hopefully there is an agreement. And if an agreement is not made or if it is broken the entire relationship goes down the drain with it. Couples need to find solutions before damage they cannot fix is done.

Cormac McCarthy’s novel written during the 20th century, conveying dramatic experience in which McCarthy’s use of rhetorical and literary techniques providing themes, symbols, motifs and other figures of speech emphasizing the impact on the main character, and other parts throughout the text. Throughout this deep understood text, the author conveys negative tones and dictions to the text. The character is described to be very dull and adventurous. He is very ominous yet a mysterious character , however it is yet to be described to be somewhat positive in regards of the symbols used in relation to the text.

In their narrow focus on their own relationship, they forgot about the natural dangers of the forest, twice. In the short story "The Interlopers," the tone is serious and defensive. Both characters, Gradwitz and Znaeym, have hatred one for the other. The setting affects the tone and mood.

In The First Betrayal Josan, a man who works in a lighthouse finds himself in the midst of a violent storm. Consequently the disheartening storm threatens to destroy the light in the tower, causing the ships to crash into the rocks. In the passage- The First Betrayal, Patricia Bray’s use of harsh diction and vivid imagery creates a mood of suspense. For instance, the author’s use of word choice illustrates a tone of fear.

Tension and suspense are used in any type of literature to make the readers want to keep reading on and to not get bored while reading a text. The short story “Departure”, describes a character leaving home, and the excerpt Up the Coolly, describes a character returning home. The narrators relate the events about the journeys in a manner that builds tension. To begin both authors use the setting to build up tension. In the excerpt from Up the Coolly the setting is contrasted in a more creepy and spooky.

The authors words give a feeling of looming death in this scene, and puts that in a brutally cold winter

During the first half of the 20th century, the Japanese empire was at the peak of its power. Starting form 1910 up until 1945, the end WWII, Korea was being held by Japan as a colony. He might be writing according to the negativity of his own mind and the aggression filled inside him. In the story he majorly stressed upon the cultural negativity by writing that during the game not only the hunters but also the common citizens were in search of him so that they can kill him and can halt the monetary assistance to his family

one of the many times he uses imagery throughout this story is when the narrator says, “on his way he would see the cottages and homes with their dark windows, and it was not unequal to walking through a graveyard where only the faintest glimmers of firefly light appeared in flickers behind the windows” (Pg 1). By using imagery to compare walking through the neighborhood as walking through a graveyard shows that it is completely silent and there is no activity in any of the houses. Most people wouldn't describe their neighborhood as a graveyard, this also develops the mood. Another time he uses imagery is when the narrator says, “The street was silent and long and empty, with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in mid-country” (1). This shows mood because the narrator describes him as a hawk in mid-country, that means that he is all alone in what he feels to be like a barren or abandoned place.

The narrator comes upon the site in the morning, just as "the sun poured yellow surprise into the eye sockets of a stony skull", he feels the ground grip his feet and his heart being "circled by icy walls of fear.” Wright juxtaposes images of violence and childhood innocence and in the narrator's reverie, he becomes the victim and as “a night wind muttered in the grass and fumbled the leaves in the trees,” as “the woods poured forth the hungry yelping of hounds” and “the darkness screamed with thirsty voices” the narrator is left shivering surrounded by a thousand cruel faces, and bloodied and tortured by callous hands. The author’s word choice plays a role into developing these feelings because the way the author chooses to use their words, it is a way to makes the reader understand what is happening and it captures their understanding of it. The author’s diction can be illustrated when it mentions, “At intervals, while turning over the leaves of my book. I studied the aspect of that winter afternoon.” As readers we can experience the diction, when the author encounters leaves instead of pages. The scenario used here illustrates how he is using the time and weather to demonstrate these feelings.

Why does gothic horror even matter in literature? Gothic horror can create numerous ideas found within a novel more interesting or suspenseful about what will happen next. These stories use different characteristics to create a gothic atmosphere in the story. During the Victorian era, the idea of gothic literature grew in popularity. It is influenced by countless ideas, including religious themes around this time period, and usually reflects on the characteristics of the people living in the Victorian era.
