Book Summary: My Side Of The Mountain

Who would ever thought that Sam Gribley age 12 would have ever runaway? The There are similarities and differences from My Side of the Mountain book and movie. PS I personally think that the book is better than movie . There many similarities and from the book and movie My Side of the Mountain .

The book really made me think of all the stuff that I take for granted, and how I should be more appreciative and how there are people with less than me who are just as happy if not happier. If you’re not a fan of books that are sad but shocking and at times harsh because you think they’re boring or they don’t fulfill you’re interests, then I would still recommend you try reading the book because it’s very intriguing but I can’t guarantee you’ll love it, and if you do enjoy books like that then I say it’s a must read! He goes on to the forest and starts a new life there. He finds himself lonely and panics for awhile, when he realized that he was actually hungry. He decides to follow the birds to find food. The first berries gave him diarrhea and vomit.

The poem “From this Height” by Tony Hoagland explores the ideas of the power of wealth, individual versus society, and the circle of life. The speaker, a very wealthy man, uses his money to support his opulent lifestyle. His wealth gives him a very affluent place in society and access to many things a middle class man would only dream of. The speaker struggles with the fact that society played a huge role in his success, yet most people do not get to life the way that he does. The idea of the “circle of life” gives the speaker a reason to justify the way he uses his money and lives his life, because he realizes “it would be a sin not to enjoy” all that he has been blessed with.

As kids we are faced with challenges and obstacles, but we end up overcoming and growing from these obstacles in the end. In the movie, The Legend of the Mountain Man, the kids in the movie are faced with many obstacles that they have to overcome and deal with. One of them being their Dad having cancer and him having to leave them at their grandparents house while he gets treatment for his illness. At their grandparents house, the kids learn that their family has many secrets, and they are determined to figure out exactly what those secrets are. While on the quest to uncover their hidden family secrets, they learn about the legend of the mountain man.

It also exemplifies the jurastic difference between the peaceful areas of the forest and the extreme woods in Alaska. He had to learn how to survive without instruction from anyone else. He says, “We have made a bow and many arrows. We can kill more birds than we need for our food; we find water and fruit in the forest. At night, we choose a clearing, and we build a ring of fires around it. We sleep in the midst of that ring, and the beasts dare not attack us.

“The Way to Rainy Mountain” is organized very well, it includes three narrative voices. Throughout this novel the first narrative voice is about the Kiowa legends. Then Momaday has a paragraph of contexts that relates to the legend. The author gives the reader a bit of his life by relating a family experience he had. Because some of the Kiowa legends and history go with Momadays own family history, then this three voice narration allows the author to have great detail about the Kiowa’s way of life in every way.

It taught me that strength and perseverance can make a significant impact in life. I also learned that forgiveness and the ability to forgive is much more powerful than I ever realized. This novel sucked me into the story and its characters and took me on an emotional ride of highs and lows. Finally, it forced me to reevaluate my previous judgement of the homeless.

I noticed everything; every little branch on the trees, every twig in the snow, the way the snow fell, the little gaps in between the trees. The snow fell delicately and vanished in the sea of snowflakes. The evergreen trees oscillate in the wind, revealing new chambers to slip through. My mind sees everything, it's almost as if I am a camera on autofocus. The wind picks up again and I have to momentarily pause to regain my balance.
