The movie we watched in the class “the last abortion clinic” is definitely relevant in this situation. This movie connects the dots from Roe v Wade, which allowed states to regulate abortion so long as they did not place an "undue burden" to the Planned Parenthood v. Casey (the pro-life movement has dramatically changed the landscape of abortion politics). It

The Supreme Court case struck down the Massachusetts law that claimed that only married couples could obtain contraceptives that registered doctors or pharmacists provided. The Court stated that the law did not satisfy the rational basis test offered by the 14th Amendment. Perhaps one of the most widely known and controversial Supreme Court cases regarding contraceptives, Roe v. Wade still gains attention in legal debates today. The Supreme Court stated that by banning a woman’s right to an abortion, Texas violated her constitutional rights. Women hold the right to an abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy under their 14th Amendment rights.

● According to RRA’s argument, the new statute does not have an exception to allow abortions in cases of rape or incest after the point of fetus viability. But under Casey, a state may prohibit abortion after viability even if the pregnancy was the result of rape and before viability, a state may not place a “substantial obstacle” (impose an undue burden) on obtaining abortion. It is true that the new statute violates the U.S Constitution, by not allowing abortions after the fetus viability. The U.S Supreme Court held that, even after the fetus viability, the states cannot prohibit abortions, necessary to preserve the health or life of the woman. The chances of winning the argument are low for RRA in this point because the U.S constitution has not provided specific requirements in cases of rape, but it is mainly concerned with the maternal health.

In the case of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that multiple U.S. amendments give Americans the right to privacy. Although the case ruled abortion a right for women, many states still implement rules and regulations that make a professionally administered abortion very hard, if not nearly impossible to obtain (Abortion). I believe that abortion should be legalized and made readily available all over the world. The easy availability of professional abortions reduces the rate of maternal death (Abortion).

“On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court announced its decision in Roe v. Wade, a challenge to a Texas statute that made it a crime to perform an abortion unless a woman’s life was at stake. The case had been filed by “Jane Roe,” an unmarried woman who wanted to safely and legally end her pregnancy. Siding with Roe, the court struck down the Texas law. In its ruling, the court recognized for the first time that the constitutional right to privacy “is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy” (Roe v. Wade, 1973).

The Right to Abortion On January 22, 1973, in a 7-2 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down it’s landmark decision in the case of Roe v. Wade, which recognized that the constitutional right to privacy extends to a woman’s right to make her own personal medical decisions — including the decision to have an abortion without interference from politicians (Planned Parenthood). There are many moments in history when Roe v. Wade has been so close to being overturned, yet it is still in place. Abortion should stay legal, or not overturned, for the health of women everywhere. First, this important case took place at the time of abortion being illegal in most states, including Texas, where Roe v. Wade began.

In the Dominican Republic, abortion is illegal. Article 37 of their constitution states that “the right to life is inviolable from the moment of conception and until death”. When a pregnant sixteen-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital, diagnosed with acute leukemia, doctors were hesitant to administer the chemotherapy treatment needed to try to save her life. Chemotherapy usually has adverse effects on a fetus and can lead to termination of the pregnancy, and since no exemptions were made on the ban on abortion, doctors did not want to take the chance and treat her for fear of legal repercussions if the fetus were to die from complications of said treatment. In the state of California, the issue of minors receiving abortions has reached the ballot three times. The issue specifically concerns parental consent and whether or not a minor should receive the same treatment as a pregnant adult in terms of privacy, power, and the right to decide for one 's body. The first, in 2005 with Proposition 73, again in 2006 with Proposition 85, and finally in 2008 with Proposition 4. Each side of the issue has major support, and strong will to either prohibit or allow minors to have abortions without parents knowing about their child 's health . Proposition 85, voted on in 2006 was the second of the three attempts to ensure physicians notify a parent or guardian of a scheduled abortion for a minor.

The 100 year old law of abortion being illegal in new south whales has been defeated and will remain a crime. The law reform bill for abortion lost 25-14 in the upper house of the state parliament in New South Wales. Members of the public were outraged to find out about this outcome as it was broadcasted by the legislative council. The point of this law reform bill was to allow members of the public to be able to get an abortion without doctors permission or medical advice and to pass certain medical requirements.

Before Roe v. wade the number of deaths from illegal abortions was around 5000 and in the 50s and 60s the number of illegal abortions ranged from 200,000 to 1.2 million per year. These illegal abortions pose major health risks to the life of the woman including damage to the bladder, intestines as well as rupturing of the uterus. The choice to become a mother must be given to the woman most importantly because it’s her body, her health, and she will be taking on a great responsibility. A woman’s choice to choose abortion should not be restricted by anyone; there are multiple reasons why abortion will be the more sensible decision for the female.

Women’s rights have been a long struggle in America’s legal system, as well as in the religious world, for many decades and women continue to have challenges, concerns, and struggles today. Fighting for what is best for their bodies such as a woman’s right to contraceptives to control whether she will get pregnant or not was not ideal for religious and personal reasons but would find a worthy advocate in a woman who would dedicate her life for women’s reproductive rights. The right for a woman to have an abortion became a legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Courts in a very well-known case. It has always been a double standard in what was right and wrong, moral or immoral, towards women than men. A man was looked at with respect

Reproductive Health Services (1989): The Court upheld Missouri restrictions on abortions that “public employees and public facilities were not to be used in performing or assisting abortions unnecessary to save the mother 's life; encouragement and counseling to have abortions was prohibited; and physicians were to perform viability tests upon women in their twentieth (or more) week of pregnancy.” It was a fractured decision that seemed to contradict Roe v. Wade but the court decided to not revisit any parts of Roe v. Wade after this case.
