1845: Elias Howe invented a new type of sewing machine. It stitched on both sides of the material.
1839: An Austrian tailor Josef Madersperger designed several machines during the early 1800’s including a machine to sew caps. He worked on building it but failed.
1830: A French man named Barthelemy Thimonneir was able to convince people about the usefulness of the machine and made a batch of machines to make uniforms for the French army.
1845: Elias Howes’ brother got sent off to England to find anyone else interested in the sewing machine. He found one man called William Thomas who bought the rights to the invention and arranged Howe to go to England to further improve the machine. However, they did not get along and Howe returned to America with little money and found that while he was gone lots of other companies were bust manufacturing machines. After a few lawsuits later, the argument ended when major companies joined together and pooled their patents and protected their inventions together.

Before the war, industry in the United States had just begun. Samuel Slater, also known as the “Father of the Factory System”, established the United States’ first factory in 1790 at Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Slater built the spinning jenny, which was one of the key inventions of the industrial revolution. As demand for cotton rose, many sought out an easier, more efficient way to pull seeds from cotton. In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin.

Saint’s sewing machine could only sew a chain stitch, which is not beneficial for the clothing, because it can unravel. Elias Howe was not the only person who tried to invent a machine that included the lock stitch, he was just the only one who succeeded. The machine used an awl to make a hole in the material that was being sewn so a needle could pass through it.
Eli Whitney invented a machine called the cotton gin. This used a wire screen in combination with small hooks to pull the cotton fibers though. The gin in cotton gin is short for the word engine. The cotton gin could clean more cotton in a few hours than a couple of workers could in one day (Birking). When Whitney arrived i gorga cleaning green cotton was still a hand jod.
For instance he invented the cotton gin in 1793. He went to plantation owners named Catherine Green and Phineas Miller. Catherine said it was very hard to take out the seeds from cotton balls. So they asked him to make the cotton gin for the south. Phineas Miller said he will pay all cotton gin expenses.

The cotton gin is a machine that quickly and efficiently separates cotton fibers from their seeds (2). His machine moves like brush like teeth through the raw cotton, which makes the hard task go by faster. The cotton gin grew to produce a thousand pounds of cotton a day in the 18th century (11).
The Louisiana Purchase was a huge contribution to nationalism. It doubled the size of the United States which increased the sense of pride in every American. Gaining this vast amount of land also gave people more territory to move to, settle, farm, or industrialize. This led to Americans feeling as if they had gained a larger sense of freedom. Citizens of the United States now had an opportunity to explore new land, and start a new life.

With these inventions, life was a lot easier for those that could afford them. In 1907, the first washing machine was produced and in 1928 sales reached 913,000 units. This made washing clothes a faster and less laboring process. In 1913, the first radio was produced by Edwin Armstrong, this gave many families something to listen to in their free time, and delivered news to everyone who could afford to listen to radios. On October 27, 1920 the first radio station – KDKA – was issued its license, with this, many people were now able to listen to the same station at the same time and get the same news at the same time.
The seeds, then had to be picked out by hand as well. This process was extremely time consuming. In 1793, a man named Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This greatly sped up the process of harvesting the cotton.
Samuel Slater Samuel Slater was inventor he created the textile mill which changed the world in many positive ways. Samuel Slater once said”we are destitute of a person acquaint with water spinning if thy present situation does not come up to what thou wishest. This quote explain that he was talking a little about the textile mill because in his quote he said water frame spinning which is a working of a textile mills which gives of energy by spinning cause of the weight of the water keeping the mill spinning. This quote is also one of the reason why and how Samuel Slater change the world. Samuel Slater was important figure in American history cause of his inventions which one of his greatest which was the textile mills.

The arts and crafts movement began a revolution of people who sought to use their hands rather than big machinery to create something. Through meaningful interactions with their materials, people who partook in these activities gained meaningful insights.
Edison started his research for this invention in the year 1878 but was made in the year 1879. He tested it with different metal filaments including platinum. Platinum didn't work though because it was too expensive and it wouldn't burn as much. It was until 1879 that he found a figment that would work perfectly. He found that a carbon figment that was made with carbonized thread would burn for about 13.5 hours, but he later discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament would last over 1200 hours!
