The movie Shrek is a popular classic in the animation genre of film. A big reason for it becoming a classic is its theme. Shrek is an ogre who is constantly feared and looked down in society. His looks make people want to kill him, which makes Shrek isolate himself from in his swamp. So what exactly is the theme of the story? Well, Shrek was always judged by society because he’s simply an ogre. Him wanting to marry the human version Fiona would be looked down upon since he’s an ogre and she’s a human. Judgment is huge part of the society Shrek lives in. This judgement is similar to how the Puritans reacted when they encountered an outsider or someone who’s different. The Puritans were a group of Protestants who wanted to purify their church. …show more content…
Another example of modern day Puritism is NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem. Colin decided to sit down during the National Anthem at one of his games because of the oppression that occurs in the African American community in America. In an interview, he said , “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color… To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder (NFL, “Colin Kaepernick…”).” Kaepernick practices his First Amendment rights by speaking about the issue of systematic racism in America. Prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination are part of systematic racism. The Puritans were notorious for treating outsiders like criminals because they were different. They also heavily judged and discriminated those who didn’t obey their views or had an opposing viewpoint. After this event, Colin received a lot of mixed reactions on social media. Some people praised him for speaking up about the problem, while others burned his Jersey for “disrespecting” the country. Like the Puritans, many people on social media heavily judged him because they didn’t agree with what he was
Comparing it to the NFL protest. Kaepernick is peacefully protesting against police brutality. Both Kaepernick’s protest and King’s Letter have the same motive to show others a problem that should be taken care of. First, Dr. King starts out his letter mentioning the Clergymen, calling his protest “unwise
Colin Kaepernick Kneels During Salute At Game. Colin Kaepernick a full time NFL player decided he wanted to Kneel during the national anthem because he was against the social injustice and racial profiling by cops in America mostly the cops in Colorado. Colin, who had never done this before or has ever protested against this before, sparked controversy around the country because people thought it was rude, controversial, a stunt and irresponsible use of his power with his fans. Since then Colin has joined protests against this and other big time and small players have since kneeled or sat down during the solute.
During the musical, Shrek talks about how his life resembles an onion with many layers beyond his harsh exterior. Donkey furthers this metaphor by telling Shrek that he is hiding behind his scary and ugly face just because he is afraid to let people into his heart. He is afraid to show emotion and feelings to Fiona because he is hiding behind his onion layers. Donkey explained that Shrek’s layers were more like a parfait because each layer is beautiful and worth exploring. Shrek had always put up his layers acted as if he were an onion, stinky and unwanted.
Therefore, lots of people in America state that Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, shouldn’t make his protest in that manner. In contrast, Colin Kaepernick should have protested in his manner for the following reasons. To begin with, the action made by Colin Kaepernick was a really effective way to attract attention. After the game that he first started his protesting, lots of reporters dash to Kaepernick and tried to interview him even though there was no interview.
Why is he considered, by some, to be a controversial
Colin Kaepernick a form NFL quarterback sparked controversy when he kneeled during the national anthem. Nancy Armour a writer for USA Today explained why Kaepernick took a knee over racism and discrimination because, “people don’t like to address that and they don’t like to address what the root of this protest is”. What Armour is explaining is that most people don’t want to address a problem at all and when there is a problem as big as racism in the present most wont deal with it. I think there could be better ways that to get the point across than Kaepernick did; on the other hand, it did spark a lot of talk about the subject and bring it to the eyes of the public. Kaepernick provides a good explanation for his actions when he told the press,
The movie Shrek shows exaggeration through the characters of Shrek and Fiona. Shrek exemplifies exaggeration by pulling a large amount of earwax out of his ear to create a candle. The amount of earwax pulled from Shrek’s ear is abnormal to the amount of wax from a regular human. Shrek also takes a frog and turns it into a balloon for Fiona, and Fiona also picks up a snake and turns it into a balloon. Another example of exaggeration is when Fiona begins to sing with a bird and tries to sing louder than it.
He was portrayed as nasty and brutish based on upon his physical appearance but oddly enough was actually emotional and sensitive. The hard truth was that because of his outward appearance many were not able to look past that, especially
“During a medal ceremony at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, two African-American track athletes made what would become one of the most famous political protests” (Araki, Zachary). These protest show that the legal system is unfair to African American citizens. The only way to stop these is to protest what is wrong in America and how it can be fixed. Kneeling during the national anthem is just another way to protest that the justice system is wrong. Not only does it show the wrongs but it raises awareness about the topic.
Lion, directed by Garth Davis, is a compelling interpretation of a remarkable true story of Saroo Brierley, lost as a child and reunited with his family 25 years later. Throughout Davis explores the unique circumstances under which Saroo is separated and reconnected with his family and his journey along the way. At some points of the film, I was confronted by how Saroo, a five-year-old boy, expertely navigates, with great instinct and genuine innocence, through an extended, yet life threatening ride. To put it in other words, Lion is a journey that grabs you entirely; whether you want it or not, and you are involved in each and every scene. I instantly fell in love with the connection and relationship between Saroo and his older brother
Nevertheless, I cannot appreciate the part that Shrek and Fiona fart and burp against each other. I think it is a bit vulgar, even for the purpose to get the audience
This definition explains how piousness it is to treat people based on the color of their skin. In fact, Shrek is not only an ogre, but a green ogre. The many struggles that faced Fiona and Shrek explains how race is an issue for him. His situation with Fiona is an example of interracial marriage and the plot as a whole shows how stigmatic society is. Fiona kept insisting in Shrek II that they should not judge Shrek by his appearance.

It’s time to #TakeAKnee “We never get rid of hate by meeting hate with hate; we get rid of an enemy, by getting rid of enmity. By its very nature hate destroys and tears down.” Dr. Martin Luther King stated that the purpose of non-violent protest was not to get revenge but to change the heart of the enemy. Over the past couple of years America has begun to acknowledge police brutality as a serious problem. While state-sanctioned violence towards individuals of varying races of color is not new, the documentation through dash-cams and civilian cellphone footage has brought the brutality to light.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a Marvel team super hero film. Nonetheless, it is controversial to the audience whether it fits the sub-genre of a team-up film such as The Avengers. Due to the characters, none of them have their individual movie like Iron Man. However, James Gunn uses points of view and actor’s acting to enhance the intimacy among the characters that makes this movie fits into the team super hero film genre. In addition, Gunn uses makeups to not make any of the roles too standout because they all have unique appearances that balance out on screen.
