In Colonial America, during the 1600’s and 1700’s, there were religious, political and geographical changes which resulted in democratic and undemocratic changes. Religion had a big impact on Colonial America. Maryland had to pass the Act of Toleration because too many people were not able to exercise their religion freely. (document 1) The act stated that nobody in Maryland who exercises their religion will be embarrassed and is free to do so willingly, however this act only applied to Christians.

Slavery during the periods of 1607 to 1776 had a drastic change in Britain's North American Colonies. During the time of the African Diaspora, Africans were spread all over the New World. This led to an adapting and different type of workability in the colonies. The developments started with the use of indentured servitude, Bacon’s Rebellion, and slavery.

The 13 colonies were created in the late 1600s and early 1700s. There are 3 groups in the 13 colonies, the New England Colonies , the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. The Middle colonies and Southern Colonies have similarities and differences. The Middle and Southern Colonies have many similarities. First the middle and colonies are religious catholicos.

The colonial societies between the New England and the Chesapeake that developed prior to 1700 were very different but also had some similarities, in terms of there economic systems, social and political set ups, amd religious beliefs. The New England colonies had rocky soil and short growing seasons, making it more difficult to farm but they had many navigable rivers and harbors which helped them with trade. The Chesapeake colonies's economy was based more on cash crops, such as tobacco,rice, and indigo, they were less able to provide more industry due to their lack of markets and skilled labor force.

The starkest differences between the three colonial regions lie in economy and religious influences. For example, New England colonies like Massachusetts and Rhode Island had a bigger focus on shipbuilding, fishing, and lumber mills than the Southern or Middle colonies, whose focus was based around agriculture, due to the difference in climate and geography. Middle colonies also focused on exporting iron ore and iron products. In addition, New England colonies had a bigger population of Puritans, so the culture in this region was more strict socially; drunkenness, swearing, and gambling were frowned upon, especially in the Massachusetts Bay colony. Intro In the 17th and 18th century the three colonial regions were all similar in the way they farmed but differed in what they farmed, who farmed it and who they sold it to. The economy of the middle and southern colonies differed from that of new england because it was based off of creating a surplus of cash crops farmed by slaves to sell and create a fortune, While New England manufactured ships and large amounts of iron while also using subsistence farming and fishing to create a humble economy which was just enough to feed themselves and their families. New England and the Middle Colonies are 2 Colonies that are total opposites from each other, but do have some similarities. New England had no religious freedom because if you were not puritan then you could not live there. On the other hand, the Middle Colonies did have religious freedom, you could be a Quaker, Lutheran, Jewish, Catholic or French and a lot more as well. New England and the Middle Colonies share some similarities based on religion and other things as well. Some similarities were that the church was an important part of both New England and Middle Colonies towns.

Jamestown colony and Plymouth colony have are two similar colonies but at the same time are so very different. One similarity is that each colony had a large number of deaths after winter. One difference is that Plymouth colony had a good relationship with the Native Americans and Jamestown didn't have a good relationships with them. A second difference is that the two colonies came for different reasons.
