Anthem by Ayn Rand and Animal Farm by George Orwell have many similarities as well as differences. Anthem is a dystopian novel featuring Equality, later renamed Prometheus, as the main character, and focuses on his journey to separate himself from the collectivist ideals of the society in which he lived. Animal Farm is an allegorical novel representing the Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin's rise to power. One similarity is that in both novels, the group in power intend to create the perfect society, but it always ended in corruption and benefits given only to those in power. For example, the animals in Animal Farm drove out Mr. Jones in an attempt to bring equality and better treatment, but soon the pigs came into power, and they got …show more content…
One contrast between the two is that where Animal Farm gives a depiction of an attempt at communism that didn't work out because it became corrupted, Anthem shows a future world based upon collectivist ideals, a world that seems to steer us onto a path of dislike for collectivism to prevent our society from becoming a collectivist one. Another difference is that Anthem focused on the importance of individualism and man's ego. In contrast, Animal Farm was more centered around the fact that communism cannot work because a power-hungry individual will corrupt the system, and no one would ever really be equal under it. A third example of a contrast between the two novels is that, in Anthem, Ayn Rand was straightforward in what she wanted to say. She didn't mince words; she expressed her dislike of collectivism through Prometheus's story, and the meaning could be gleaned from the story itself. Orwell, however, created a more in depth story that required the reader to dig a little deeper and to do some research to figure out the allegorical references and get a meaning deeper than just simply the story that he wrote. Another difference between the two is the setting of the two stories. Animal Farm is set in 20th century England, while Anthem is set in what used to be a big city (possibly New York City) at an unspecified, future date, 100 years after what we can assume was a Third World War. Lastly, one more difference between the two books is the disparity between the main characters. Prometheus is the rebel, the one who dared to go against the wishes of the government he lived under, whereas Napoleon is the one at the head of the corrupted system of government in Animal

Comparisons and Contrasts of Fahrenheit 451 and Anthem The novel Fahrenheit 451 is written with aspects of a society similar to that of Anthem in relation to their futuristic governments and dynamic characters. Montag in Fahrenheit 451 is faced with multiple challenges comparable to those of Prometheus in Anthem. Although each character plays a different role, they are both striving to achieve freedoms and happiness. Author of Animal Farm, George Orwell and director of Truman Show, Peter Weir use figurative and metaphorical undertones to express a deeper message in both forms. Both men depict a good life as one of hard work and dedication, the ideal society as practically unachieveable by humans as we are always swayed by personal convictions and the abused power of individuals is seemingly the source of injustice, elitism and prejudice in our society. Truman Show and Animal Farm are criticisms of our world that Weir and Orwell use to convey very similar messages to their separate
But, I think Ayn Rand does a better job at portraying the truths about life. Ayn Rand put the setting of Anthem in the future, although she wrote it in 1937. In the book the way life is practiced as collectivism. Not one person in this way of life has the right to be independent.

They found work at a farm in California.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Both Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451, and Ayn Rand, author of Anthem, offer their readers insights into problems that can occur from governmental control through the dystopian societies established in their novels. In Fahrenheit 451, the main character, Montag, lives in a society in which books are illegal and people are pressured to watch television all day by other people and by government propaganda. Anthem tells the story of Equality 7-2521, a man who lives in a collectivist society but performs experiments as an individual, so the government imprisons him.
The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is about the Russian Revolution. Even though the book is about the Russian Revolution. It has a deeper theme and moral to it.
