Being a CNA, there is a lot to take on and deal with; this type of job you have to be ready physically, emotionally, and mentally. As stated in “Work-Related Injuries Among CNA”, a study by the U.S. dept. Of labor found that 65.8% of CNA workers have reported having more then one injury in the past year. After completing my research, this article made me realize how bad it is. If you are injured it will impact the ability of the CNA providing care to their patients. When you are injured or over work your body, you are literally losing strength and focus, which will impact the ability of your caring for your patients. The article suggests to take a 5-15 minute break to allow your body to rest. Some of the research also stated that these work related injuries were caused by being understaff and having no help. When you became a CNA according to this article. “Become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).” They tell you what the job is going to be like and what are the requirement’s but what people tend to forget is the rewards you get and it isn’t like a award they hand out to you. This reward is a sense of feeling like you may an impact on someone’s life. The family is the key to feeling this reward/achievement. For example, I took care of that lady when she was hospice and the family would always see me attending to there love one, and then when I was finished they would say thank you. However, what really got to me was that they said there family has high regards and respect for you cause you show a lot a dedication to making sure they feel normal as possible and not just a person who is forgotten. This is what a reward would feel like according to one of my interviews from Lucy Denz who I work with. She said when the family sees you as not a worker but a family friend is the most important thing in your work life as a CNA cause you were able to break a wall the family had up for fear and protection cause they don’t know you well enough at first. Then, as time goes on they see your compassion and dedication to the patience and that you never forget about them even if you’re super busy you always remember them and say your sorry and then start a lovely conversation and encouraging them to do there Activities of daily living.
