Seeking religious freedom, more land and more raw materials, the Pilgrims from England set on a voyage to a new world. Arriving to a land already inhabited by Native Americans, the pilgrims were unwelcomed. Overcoming the differences and finding peace between each group, the Natives helped the Englanders prosper. The inference people can assume is from the numerous times Native Americans are mentioned in early American history such as “Of Plymouth Plantation” and “The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations” that the foundation of America began with the help of Natives. The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations was an inspiration for the American constitution.

Great Britain provided many basic constitutional principles to the colonies. These ideas founded our government and shaped our country. Some principles we adopted from England helped develop our representative government, one being republicanism. In all colonies except for Georgia, republicanism was a common practice.

Primary sources are eminent for historians to discover events that occurred in the past, without such sources of information, there would be no knowledge of an incident. Some events can have many sources describing exactly what occurred, which is celebrated by historians as this gives a fuller picture of the past. However, some events have only one written surviving source- one such event is the Stono Rebellion. Therefore, historians are reliant on this source for all the information of the revolt, but it has still created controversy due to numerous reasons, such as the identity of the author, and the exact date. Both controversies will be explored later in this commentary.

The relationship between Britain and its American colonies was civil at first but began to strain in the mid-1700’s. In the beginning, Britain ruled colonies with little involvement because they were busy dealing with the French and Indian War among other things. As a result of this, the colonies were typically left in charge of themselves with little interference from British authorities. After years of being left alone, the colonists had developed a feeling of freedom and independence. When the war ended there was a significant change in the relations between England and the colonies.

Since the early 1600s, the colonies had been practicing self-government. With the influence of the British, the American colonies were able to create a representative government. With the rights of its people in mind, the government continues to put in force the policies and laws formed by the colonies. Those policies, formed so long ago by the colonies, have helped to shape and maintain our Constitutional Republic today. The Petition of Right (1628) was England 's most famous Constitutional charter created to extend “the rights of commoners" to have a voice in the government.

Despite the fact that they were willing to help the colonists, the colonists had quickly disregarded them and called them savages. Thomas Hariot, who described the “New World” to be so beautiful quickly belittled the Indians “ But how manie yeeres or ages haue passed since, they say they can make no relation, hauing no letters nor other such meanes as we to keepe recordes of the particularities of times past, but onelie tradition from father to sonne”(Hariot pg. 26). Overtime the Indians became agitated with losing their land, the most famous account of the Indians becoming fed up was the Tuscarora War, where the Tuscarora Indians rose up and fought the colonists and they would have probably won if they would have gotten help from the neighboring tribes. However, they lost and were sentenced by the colonists to live on reservations. The American Revolution was caused by the changes in Britain and not by social change in America. American colonists had a clear reluctance to fight and separate from Britain as seen in such documents as the Olive Branch Petition and the Declaration of Independence. Many American writers expressed regret or melancholy over their separation from the British. Many historians debate whether or not the American Revolution was actually a revolution. A revolution is known as an upheaval of a society (for example the French, or Russian revolutions).

Throughout the years there has been many individuals whom have helped shape The United States of America into the independent country it is today. It’s hard to believe that this country was at one point governed by a distant British king, and that before Americans claimed equal rights, they were subject to British tyranny. Americans were in desperate need of a leader who would step up for his people and declare independence, Americans were in desperate need of Thomas Jefferson. ‘ Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 at his family home in Shadwell, not far from Charlottesville. His father, Peter Jefferson, was a planter while his mother, Jane Randolph, was a stay at home mom.

DBQ Between the years 1750 and 1776, England was locking down on the colonies, imposing lots of taxes against the colonists such as the Stamp Acts and Townshend Acts. Tensions were high between England and the colonies and the idea that a Revolution might take place wasn’t out of the question. And it was between those 25 years that colonists in America began to find a sense of unity and a sense of their own individual identities.

The Natives believed that the Europeans are “edgy, rapacious, and remotely maladroit.” Sure enough, the settlers in Jamestown kenned little about farming and found the environment baffling. It was conspicuous that the colonists needed the avail of the Natives. Despite their inexperience the English dominated the Indians. From “the beginning the Virginia Company indited that the relationship would ineluctably become bellicose: for you Cannot Carry Your Selves so towards them but they will Grow Discontented with Your habitation.”

There were many significant successes and failures during the colonization of North America by the British. One thing that is a major success is that Britain was able to hold onto a colony of a very large area from 1607 which was the start of Jamestown, to 1775; the start of the United States, and even then Britain still had a fair amount of land in Canada after the revolution. One thing that is a significant failure of the colonization of North America is all the conflict that arose because of it. Another thing that is very significant that can be seen as both a success of Britain, and a failure is the creation of the United States. This can be seen as both a great accomplishment, and a great failure for Britain.

They taught them what plants to eat and what plants not to eat, how to plant and harvest. The Pilgrims stole from the Native Americans. They slaughtered tribes before and after the famous thanksgiving feast seeking to control land. Not only did the Pilgrims kill the Native Americans, they enslaved them. “The US government sought to forcibly assimilate children at over 400 government boarding schools operated between 1819 and 1969” (Drenon).
