Down with Homework I agree with Alfie Kohn, when he states the strain that enormous amount of homework causes. But I disagree with his opinion in completely eliminating homework. We cannot eliminate homework because that will destroy the bridge that keeps students connected to their books after they leave school. I do however agree with Kohn in the recent, increase in homework children are getting. They are constantly judging with the classes more important so they can pick a subject to study at home. We cannot however eliminate homework because it gives students a chance to better understand the material been taught in class. We cannot expect students to master a subject without spending extra time beyond the classroom. They need to practice the material on their own so they have a better understanding of what their pros and cons. As far with parents saying homework ruining relationships, I find it sad. Should we get rid of homework? Homework is an ongoing argument between parents and teachers whether it should take it out of the system, or if they should keep it in the system. There has been an enormous amount of research and studies done on if homework helps with academic learning, or if it is just a way to put more stress onto students and teachers. Whether it is good practice at home from what they have learned at school, or a way for parents to see how we are doing at school. Whether it helps us or not it still puts a huge amount of stress on us as the school year goes on and we get more homework.
“They say I say” Chapter 1 summary Chapter one of “They say I say” is all about introducing a topic, with a counter point of view. It informs us that you are entering a conversation and need to start with “What others are saying” and then introduce your own ideas as a response. The sooner you summarize what “They say” the more likely the reader is to understand the topic. Graff and Birkenstein say, “The point is to give your readers a quick preview of what is motivating your argument, not to drown them in details right way.” You could also start your topic with an illustrative quotation, a revealing statistic or fact, or a relevant anecdote.(Nehring)
But this does not mean that they should be given endless stacks of homework. By this, I mean when they are given a lot of homework for the next day, the student will gets upset and do not want to go to school because he doesn 't want punishment for what he couldn 't do. This is my personal opinion. Homework is a never-ending conflict at school, the students want less homework but the teachers have to give them the homework, so they can study at home. Lastly, I would say a student needs time to learn but also time to play and relax and to enjoy life with his family and

According to John Bishop, “School and homework show students the important life lessons, such as how to read and communicate with others, that they will use as an adult.” Students can learn how important planning, staying organized and taking action is just from doing homework. Homework gives the students an opportunity to learn how to work independently. Although I understand that assigning homework is not beneficial at times, I still believe that assigning homework can teach students many skills and even help teachers. Assigning homework to students is constructive, therefore teachers should assign homework because it allows students to gain responsibility, time-management, perseverance, self-esteem, homework also gives students a chance to review the class material, and it also helps teachers determine how well the lessons and materials are being understood by their students.
