Harriet Jacobs and the True Colors of Slavery in Modern America
In modern America, everyone has the luxury of not being forced to serve under anyone without pay and everyone is free to live the freedom they received through the death of many in the Civil War; a deadly war that was needed for the end slavery. Sadly, many Americans take advantage of this freedom earned by the fallen soldiers and many years have passed that they forget to acknowledge that not everyone was free. Slavery is an important dark past in American history. Human beings were tortured mentally and physically and some even considered death as the greatest wish to ever be bestowed onto anyone. Many soldiers and activists gave up their lives for the idea that all men were created equal, and all men included every skin color. Because of the war, everyone who was enslaved and the future generations were given their freedom and their unalienable rights. Even though America was not perfect, America still had segregated buildings, but an influential man, Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for what he believed in and was able to terminate segregation in every building in America. One can state that there is no more racism in America for there are no segregated buildings, everyone receives the same benefits, and even that life is black and white; A perfect equilibrium within the societies. To support the statement that racism is decreasing and America is becoming more diverse, the number of minorities continuing to higher education has increased drastically (). This should be important because African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and every race in the world are able to receive an education that was not permitted before. America is headed in the right direction and a day when everyone can look at each other without noticing the color of their skin will surely
