Symbolism is a used in our everyday lives that appears quite often but isn't deeply thought about. The greater meaning of symbolism is using something from a phrase to an image to represent a message. We use symbolism to gain a message in life that forever stays in our hearts. In the book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, symbolism is used to awe the reader and make them think about the message being sent in the story.

The wind made a powerful statement, a statement of guidance after a long ride of perseverance. A statement of hope, almost as if it were a rose blooming to join with its thorns. Whenever there is a situation where someone needs hope or is almost at the point of giving up and right that moment something comes to assist, from a fairy grandmother to wind, this symbolizes guidance and hope. With the wind we can infer that Billy is thankful and glad to have this assistance and makes him feel true to himself about keeping his promise to his hounds. Without a doubt, the wind is a form of symbolism and symbolism will continue to be viewed throughout this analysis. The Red Fern is the gaurdian angel of these special dogs. The Red Fern helps Billy move forward in life, of course never forgetting his dogs, but to have something to be proud of in life. The red fern is a sign of protection and comfort. When we say the word sacred it means blessed or holy. The blessed and holy sacred fern is not any normal fern,, it is a very special fern that has been chosen to be planted on the grave of these two dogs specifically. It is common sense that very often the author shares his message with the help of certain symbols. However, the meaning of the symbols seems to change throughout different circumstances in our life. William Golding’s Lord of the flies is not an exception. In William Golding’s allegory novel Lord of the Flies, he write a story about a group of British boys that land on an unknown island.
In the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the symbolism that has been shown in the book represents something more than one can imagine or even greater. The forest plays a pre-dominate role in the plot where it brings out a deeper understanding and shows symbolism. Each of the characters can relate to the forest in different ways thus, bringing their emotions and feelings the character experiences. For some people, the forest may be considered an outskirt and a place of wrong doing, but for others, it is a place where they can be themselves. All in all, the forest shows symbolism that greatly impacts the characters throughout the story.

In Flannery O’Connor’s story, “Good Country People”, she uses symbolism to illustrate the antagonist and protagonist with more insight; for example, Manley’s hollow Bible signify how he really does not believe in Christianity, Hulga’s wooden leg portrayed her personality, and her name change represents how she is not the same girl she once was. First of all, the author introduces Manley Pointer as a young man that goes around homes selling Bibles, but little did she know that was not the case.
