Long ago in 1634, the King of England, Charles I, provoked many people to want to leave to the New World, due to the monarchy system. Anna, one of the miserable people under the King’s rule, was just like everyone else and couldn’t stand to live there anymore. After the declaration of independence in 1776, different groups of people raised particular issues concerning their status in the society through petitions. This paper will consist in presenting three petitions written in the late eighteenth century. The first document is addressed to the authorities of the state of Pennsylvania in 1784 by the leaders of Philadelphia Jewish community concerning the religious aspect of the constitution. The second petition is addressed by enslaves African-Americans to the Massachusetts Legislature in 1777 about the status of slaves.

This is a political conflict that has been composed on all of the colonists and confusion, hate, and anger started to broil. This is especially shown in the document when it states “She protected us from those who had no quarrel with us on any other account, and who will now always be our enemies on the same account----because of her!” This proves that England protected the colonies from countries they had no setback with whatsoever, and now the countries became upset because of the protection. This shows that England worsened the relationships between them and other colonies/countries. Which affects the colonists politically because they no longer had a source of trade between other countries, which unfolds to the king taking their rights away.

Colonial America is known for its end product of the United States and its ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is also known for the rebellions that have occurred against the government. This theme of anger and rebellion can be exemplified of Bacon’s Rebellion and the Salem Witch Trials. These instances contain events that redeem tensions throughout colonial society through hardships such as corruption, mass hysteria, and contradicting the ideas of the government. Initially, corruption inhabited a major issue that had driven the two rebellions to become majorly eventful within American History.

In the 1600’s England was ruled by King Charles 1 whom was set on enforcing his religious views upon his people. These views were carried out through the Church of England. In an effort to escape the persecution and corruption in which they found themselves, two groups broke away from the church and fled the country. These groups consisted of the puritans and the pilgrims. They came to explore, to make money, to spread and exercise their religion freely, and to live on land of their own.

John Winthrop Jr was an extremely influential figure in New England during the 1600’s, not only in Connecticut, but also in all of the New England colonies. Walter Woodward’s book, Prospero's America, illustrates just how diverse Winthrop Jr's interests and impacts were. Winthrop Jr is popularly known as the man who is greatly accountable for protecting Connecticut's existence and obtaining royal charter to govern Connecticut. Woodward tells his readers Winthrop Jr's other roles which ranged widely and also how these roles were interrelated. Woodward shows us a person with boundless talent with even larger dreams and desires (Godbeer).

Although the separation from England was a united movement, not all colonies settled for the same reasons. Therefore, as a result of this difference, each colony had its own motives to base its social foundation on. The charter relinquished to the colony of Pennsylvania, was an articulation of the newly endowed rights given to the people, as well as, an act of appeal.
