This Science Fiction book would be unknown since the Author didn’t exactly give the time in the book. In the book Anthem there wasn’t any clues or hints that it took place in 1900’s or the 2000’s. In Anthem, a book, written by Russian author, Ayn Rand, everyone has one rule, to be the same: To be one, as a whole. If they choose to disobey that rule, they are punished, and our main character, Equality 7-2521 did just that. Throughout the book, Equality 7-2521 discovers new things, which others do not know about, such as electricity. Equality 7-2521 also works on a new invention of his that no one has ever done, because it is forbidden.

For Liberty is so beautiful and “glowing” that she cannot be ignored. The final moments in the book show equality being selfish towards others. Using Anthem, Rand shows her beliefs about the group vs the individuals in the group. She provides us a reason to believe her claims through Equality managing to symbolize her points as the light bulb. Using his transition from being brainwashed by the government to becoming a full individual, after he runs away with his light, adds more of an impact to her beliefs towards selfishness. Trey Clevenger Monath Language Arts II 5 October 2016 Individuality “Jumped out the window, and didn’t even realize I ran into the forbidden forest” (Rand 62) as Equality runs into the forest he realizes he’s alone and he’ll never see the golden one again. When he was sitting in the forest he thought about all the laws he broke and the most important one he stood out as an individual. The Society don’t like individuals so society demands collectivism, conformity, and equality, but Equality 7-2521 wanted to stand out as an individual and defied the laws of the society and stood out.

A dictatorship is the everyday life of Equality 7-2521 and Liberty 5-3000. In Anthem, by Ayn Rand, Equality 7-2521 lives in a society in which equality is enforced in the laws of the dictating society. No one can be different from anyone else, nor can one person spend more time with one person than another. Equality 7-2521 is dictated by the leaders of his society though he increasingly does not believe in his leaders morals. His morals and ethics follows the advice Ayn Rand offers in her essay “How Does One Lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Life?”

He discovers that if something is legal it is not certainly right. His eager for knowledge taught him the word “I” abandoning the word “We”.

In Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem, Equality 7-2521 rediscovers electricity. In the collectivist society Equality lives in, it is illegal to conduct such experiments. Knowing his transgressions, what is his motivation for his experiments? Is he right to be motivated in that way? How would the world change if everyone was motivated as Equality was?

“We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever” (Rand 19). How can an individual be a hero in a collectivist society? In The Anthem, a novella by Ayn Rand, the protagonist, Equality 7-2521 is portrayed as an archetypal epic hero. Equality 7-2521 exhibits the characteristics of an epic hero because he is capable of great deeds, he has a nemesis, and he experiences an event that leads to a quest.

The type of society that he (Equality 7-2521) lives in is very strict. He couldn’t be who he wanted to be or do what he wanted to do, because if he did then he would get punished for it. I’m sure that when he got exiled from society he was probably scared, but at the same time was relieved or curious to what else was out there. He couldn’t do much in society. If he lied, cheated, talked to a woman, or even used a pronoun to describe himself instead of Equality 7-2521, he would get thrown out, killed, or

The book Anthem by Ayn Rand is a book with many strict rules and consequences. The City was very particular in how they do things. If you lived there, you never made one decision for yourself. They had a set group to decide your job for you and everything else for your life. You was not allowed to say certain things or even talk the way you want.

In Ayn Randś dystopian novel, Anthem, the citizens are forced to think that they cannot have any preference, this includes liking someone more than others. Randś protagonist, Equality 7-2521, started the book falling in love with the Golden One, but as he moves toward individuality he begins to be in “love” less as he realizes there’s more than just being in a group.
